Dumbledore's speech began, and many students fell asleep. However, Cassiandra paid close attention to every word the headmaster spoke. He always reminded students of the rules and which places around campus were forbidden. Cassiandra shuddered at the thought of breaking a school rule or going to one of the forbidden places.
For starters, not only would her mother be furious but her father as well. Not only that, but her perfect record would be tarnished, and her morals would be demoralized. The very thought was horrifying to Cassiandra, and so she shook it off and watched the first, first-year get called.
"Vega Atria," Professor McGonagall called, and a smaller statue female with lots of confidence strode up to the chair.
The hat was placed upon her head gently, and as it thought for a moment, the hat cried out "Slytherin" The young girl smiled and ran towards the Slytherin table,
Professor McGonagall beckoned for the next student, "Nathaniel Baritone,"
A shy young boy with sandy brown hair stepped forward and hesitantly made his way to the chair. He sat down and shut his eyes tightly as the hat was placed on his head.
The hat yelled out again, "This one belonging to Hufflepuff," and the young boy got off the chair and walked to the Hufflepuff table with his head down, smiling to himself.
Tons of new first years came along, but as the next name got called Cassiandras, attention was captured even more almost immediately.
"Jasper Yael," Professor McGonagall beckoned the last first year up onto the chair to be sorted.
The young girl had stunning blonde hair and beautiful green eyes, which popped under the candles and moonlight. She would make an excellent Slytherin, Cassiandra thought to herself as she watched the girl sit down.
"Gryffindor," the hat cried out after a long pause, and Cassiandra was quick to stand up with applause.
Jasper walked up to Cassiandra with a large smile. "I'm Jasper," the girl introduced, sticking out a hand.
"I'm Cassiandra, but you can call me Cassie!" The sixth year introduced shaking the younger girl's hand and offering the seat in front of her.
The feast began, and the first year in front of her was quick to fill her plate with a small bit of everything. Cassie began to fill up her plate with her personal favorites when two ginger-haired twins slid over and sat next to her and Jasper.
"Who are they?" The first year mouthed to the girl in front of her.
Cassiandra mouthed back. "The one next to you is George, the one next to me is Fred," and Jasper nodded before going back to eating more food.
"To what do we owe the pleasure?" Cassie mocked sarcastically as the twins went to open their mouths to speak.
"We've missed you, Cassie," the two gingers spoke in sync with each other, creeping out the poor new girl who just wanted to become friends with Cassiandra
"I've missed you as well," the girl caved, and the two cheered in victory.
Fred threw his arm around Cassie, which she ignored. He had tended to be a flirt around her for the past four years now, and she had gotten used to his childish games he liked to play. Every wink he sent her way and kissed; he blew she took as a sign of friendship.
Jasper gave her a questioning look, and Cassie just looked at her back, raising her eyebrows to insinuate she'd tell her later. Lucky for her, the first year got the hint and dropped it without ever even speaking a word.
Dinner began to wrap, and the two twins waited for Cassie and Jasper to finish their dinners. They had already eaten with their brother, so they were ready to socialize for a bit before heading off to bed.
Once they finally finished, they caught up with the rest of Gryffindor's house and were let into their common room. The red-decorated common room with hints of gold and comfort never failed to satisfy Cassie as she sat down on one of the couches closest to the fireplace. Jasper opted to share the chair with her, and Cassie couldn't help but smile at how quickly the girl had gotten comfortable around her.
"So, Cassie, what did you do over the summer besides not visit us?" George questioned as he sat down on one of the nearby sofas, Fred opted to sit next to him while nodding his head in agreement,
"Especially not visiting me Cassie I thought we had something special," Fred cried out, clutching his heart dramatically, George began to play into his antics, comforting his brother extremely loudly,
"I was in Bejing all summer. Did my owls not go through?" Cassie immediately felt guilty, making her owl travel all that way for nothing and providing the twins false hope.
"No, maybe our mum intercepted it?" George shrugged, moving on from the subject while Fred looked down, smiling to himself.
George stood up quickly. "I'm heading to bed goodnight, Freddy, Cassie, and little one!" He announced before walking up the stairs to the boys' dorms.
"I better take Jasper to her dorm it's getting late," Cassie spoke while Jasper sprung up, allowing her to go get up from the seat herself.
"Alright, Cassie, meet me down here at midnight. I have something I need to talk to you about, " Fred quickly chimed in from his spot on the couch.
"Fred, is this a prank?" The girls gave him a questioning look as he shook his head.
The two girls shrugged and walked up the stairs of the girls' dorms together. Once they were far enough away, Jasper was quick to ask questions.
"Are you two dating? Does his brother know? Why does he want to meet up with you? Are you guys going to make out?" Jasper curiosity had Cassie laughing as they reached the younger girls' dorm.
Cassie took a breath in before responding, "No, we aren't dating, probably wants to catch up, no we are not going to make out," letting the breath out when she was done.
Jasper shrugged before hugging the girl goodbye and walking into her dorm. The girls' confidence hadn't failed to amuse her Cassie as she headed back downstairs to check the time.
God, it's already Midnight, she thought to herself, sitting on the couch waiting for Fred to make his appearance. Within that moment, he happened to walk down the boys' dorm stairs with a large grin as he spotted the girl already waiting for him.
He snuck up behind her, throwing his arms around her, placing his chin on her shoulder. "Hi Cas," he whispered in her ear.
The girl tried her best not to jump in surprise as shivers went through her spine. "Hi Freddie," she whispered breathlessly.
The ginger teen walked to the front of the couch, opting to sit on the floor in front of her. That way, he could see the beautiful glow of the crackling fire dance across her face in a beautiful melody.
"Why did you want to meet me anyway?" Cassiandras curiosity bested her as the words flowed through her mouth like a waterfall she couldn't stop.
Fred chuckled to himself, trying to remain as quiet as possible so as not to wake other students. "Can't a guy miss his friend and want to hang out with her at midnight?" he asked with a playful grin.
"This couldn't have waited till the morning?" Cassie asked.
She loved spending time with Fred he was always a blast, but she was also extremely tired. Her eyes drooped with sleep as she fluttered her eyes to stay awake.
Fred's smile grew "Nope not one bit," he put his arms crossed on her knees, leaning forward, placing his head on her arms, and looking up at her.
Cassie smiled down at him, playing with his hair, which was softer than she remembered. "Freddie, I'm so tired. Why don't we do this again in a couple of days so that way I'm well-rested?" She offered as the boy just hummed.
"Sure thing, Cas, goodnight," the boy said, getting up and picking the girl up, twirling her around in a hug before placing her down.
He walked up to his dorm, blowing Cassiandra a kiss before disappearing into the night. She rolled her eyes with a smile before heading up to her dorm. With each step, another yawn escaped her lips before she finally made her way to her dorm.
She didn't even bother changing before climbing into her bed beyond exhaustion. The moment Cassie's head hit the pillow; she was out like a light getting some much-needed sleep. Tomorrow was the first day of classes, after all, and she wanted to be prepared. She had spent all summer studying in Beijing she didn't want that to go to waste.
