Paper Rings
“Let’s grab another drink.” Lily and Emmeline left the table to go to the hotel’s bar. It was their second day in the USA, with two more days until their match. Fast Skaters had just arrived at the hotel after hours of practicing, and not so surprisingly, so did the Marauders.
When Emmeline got both Lily’s and her drink, Lily looked up to her with a smile. Lily adored Emmeline. She was one of the sweetest people she had ever met and also powerful, never letting a man speak down on her.
“You’re like my Superman,” Lily said, throwing a kiss to Emmeline. Emmeline laughed loudly as they started walking back to their table, where the rest of the team was sitting.
“Potter, someone took your girl,” Lily heard Evan Rosier say from the Marauders' table. Lily and Emmeline rolled their eyes at them and continued talking with their teammate, Bellatrix Black, who was the eldest on the whole team.
“I adore these mirror balls; we should get some for our room!” Bellatrix said with a huge smile on her big lips. Lily laughed and told her she definitely agreed with her. “They look so elegant,” said Emmeline, who was slightly drunk.
“I think it’s enough for today, Emily,” stated the redhead as she took Emmeline’s drink. The tall girl looked at Lily with these sad eyes as she put her head on Lily’s shoulder.
“Potter is staring at us,” Emmeline whispered to Lily’s ear. The redhead automatically turned her head to the other side of the luxurious bar and saw the brown eyes. He had stopped looking at Lily as soon as he realized he got caught. Lily was almost about to laugh when she saw him blush under his brown skin.
“I’m going to get another drink. Bella, take care of Emily till I come back,” Lily cheered with a smile. She heard Bellatrix tell her not to drink a lot and that they have to practice tomorrow. Lily just shook her head as she was walking to the bar.
While she was getting her drink, brown curls got into her view. “Hello Evans!” marveled James as he was getting a drink too. “Hello Potter,” replied the redhead with a small smirk.
“How is it going with your girlfriend?” he inquired. Lily could see he was not sober, but nor was she. “She’s not my girlfriend. Don’t worry, I’ll still marry you with paper rings,” Lily laughed as she responded to his question.
Lily could never forget how James tried to get with her by giving her paper rings in an interview. She got kind of nervous when she saw James’ stoned face; she thought she did something weird until James’ laughter covered the whole building.
“Look at the lovebirds!” Lily heard Evan Rosier exclaim. She rolled her eyes as she saw James going back to their table — which was now two tables because The Marauders and Fast Skaters had decided to sit together. She followed the tall boy as her eyes were looking for her blonde friend. She finally saw her sitting with Emma Vanity and Evan Rosier, so she decided to sit there with them too, even though she didn’t know why her friends would sit with their least favorite Marauders member.
“So how are you guys doing on the team? I’m sure not much better than us,” said Evan proudly, as the girls judgy laughed at him. “Trust me, Rosier, if we got the chance to have a game together, we would have won easily,” Marlene remarked with pride as her pink loops got into her view.
Evan laughed as he told the other teammates to come closer. “I have an idea! Everyone here thinks Potter and Evans should date, right?” Most of the members shook their heads, except Lily, Marlene, and Emmeline, of course. “Okay except Evans, McKinnon, and Vance, right?” They all shook their heads this time. “So if you girls think you are much better than us, let’s make a bet,” he teased them.
Both teams shared some looks, but nobody really spoke until the redhead decided to do it. “And what is this bet about?” she asked curiously. “Well, we both have a game this week, so if we, The Marauders, make more scores than you guys, Fast Skaters, James has to take you out for a date.” Lily closed her eyes from tiredness because she knew the rest of it, “But if you guys score more, Evans decides what to do!” The whole table agreed to the bet, except Lily.
“Please Lils! You know we won’t lose this, and it will be fun!” Marlene begged her as they were leaving the bar. “Yeah, it sounds fun, but this is serious, this game is serious, and we can’t just turn it into a game like that!” Lily clarified. Marlene couldn’t help but agree. But she was Marlene; she needed some fun in everything!
“Okay, let’s do this. If you agree to make this bet, you’ll get to meet my mysterious girlfriend!” Marlene gave her a great opportunity to get to know her better. Lily’s eyes opened widely as she swiftly shook her head out of excitement.
Lily knew Marlene had a girlfriend for almost over a year, but Marlene refused to tell her who she was, and now she got the opportunity to know her! “Yes, okay, I’ll do it!” She had a huge smile on her face as she responded.
When they got into their room, Marlene went to the bathroom while she was talking to someone on her phone — her mysterious girlfriend — while Lily jumped on her bed.
When Marlene left the bathroom with a smile on her face, Lily paid attention to her. “She’ll be here after our game!” She explained with a sappy smile on her face. “No way you’re blushing!” Lily cheered as she saw the redness on Marlene’s cheeks. The day was over for them when Lily had started to make fun of Marlene for blushing over the phone.
