James
Since James was young, he already knew what true love was; he saw it in his parents's actions. How they look at each other and how they smile when the other is not looking at them. He witnessed how his parents loved each other, and he also received that love from them. James grew up being loved by everyone around him. Everyone from their neighborhood likes him. Even his classmates love him. And being able to receive that kind of love, James wants to give love to other people as well, and he was given a chance to show love when he met his friends at Hogwarts; they were broken in some ways, and James made it his goal to make them feel love, especially Sirius.
Sirius came from a family who only knew how to inflict pain and never give love. It took some years before Sirius was able to receive a hug from James without stiffening and without awkwardness. And that made James feel wonderful.
James would do anything for Sirius.
Sirius will always be his top priority.
But everything changed when James met Regulus.
Regulus Arcturus Black is someone that James shouldn't love. Someone that James shouldn't dreamed of at night. Someone James shouldn't want. Because first of all, Regulus is a Slytherin, James hates Slytherins because of their 'blood supremacy' thing and for hurting his muggle friends. Next, Regulus is a Black, and lastly, Regulus is Sirius' brother. And Sirius always tells James how he hates his younger brother for being submissive to their parents. James knows that Sirius will hate him once he realizes that James loves his younger brother.
However, James couldn't stop himself from wanting Regulus. He dreams of having the love that his parents share, and he sees Regulus as someone whom he can share that love with and not anyone else. Sure, James once liked Lily Evans; however, he realized that what he felt for her was just friendship. He didn't dream of touching Evans in some appropriate way; he wanted to treasure her, and he thought that was love.
But when he met Regulus, he wanted to treasure him and destroy him at the same time. To do things inappropriate to him. To touch him and feel him. And when he Regulus started appearing in James's dream, he was so afraid that he couldn't think for a week before he accepted that he, like, no, he loves Regulus Arcturus Black. He tried to stop it, but alas, love is something he can control.
And so he started to do things to get close to Regulus; he started smiling at him in the hallway when no one was looking. He then gave flowers to Regulus, which Regulus would always burn in front of James. James' letters get crumpled and burn also. And that made James love Regulus even more. For six months, James did everything to get close to Regulus, and he succeeded in courting Regulus. After six months, they entered a forbidden relationship. They kept it secret, but James was happy and contented. They would always meet in the middle of the night, in the darkness of the castle, where they would kiss, hug, and spend time with each other. They would talk about anything, and as James learns more about Regulus, he falls deeper and harder.
And so, he tried to talk to Regulus. He tried to convince him to leave their house and follow James. At first, Regulus doesn't want to entertain that idea, but after some time, James feels that Regulus is starting to give in to him. But before he could convince Regulus, Sirius learned about their relationship. They were caught on the astronomy tower, and all went down.
Sirius made him choose...
Regulus or Sirius...
For James, Sirius was his priority, so he made a choice.
A choice that broke his heart; it made him bleed, but for Sirius, it's okay.
He chose Sirius.
He chose Sirius, but he made a plan to convince Sirius to mend his relationship with Regulus, and it was working until he received that news.
But he didn't realize that his choice had great consequences.
He started to see Regulus less. He wasn't in the hallway or the great hall. He couldn't get a glimpse of him. He tried talking to Regulus' friends but received nothing except threats and stings. However, he didn't give up until he received the news that Regulus was engaged to Pandora Rosier.
James knew who Pandora was: Evan's twin, a Ravenclaw, and a psycho one. She is Regulus' best friend.
At first, he believes that their engagement was arranged by Regulus' parents and that he didn't have a choice, but he is starting to doubt that, especially when he always sees Pandora kissing Regulus on the face anywhere in the castle. They displayed their relationship publicly, and Regulus wasn't refusing Pandora's kisses.
So he came up with an idea to follow and talk to Regulus. He needs to speak to Regulus, explain, and get him back. However, the first day that he tries to follow Regulus but, he was stopped by Pandora.
"Potter, stop following my fiancee; it's creeping him out." Pandora cornered them in the library.
James' jaw tightened upon hearing the word 'fiancee' from her mouth. "I just need to talk to him. And he is not your fiancee."
Pandora just smirked at him, "Tell that to the ring on my finger, Potter." Pandora raised her left hand. James stared at her ring "Looks familiar, Potter?"
James looked at the ring, and pain appeared in his eyes, making Pandora smile. James knew that ring. Regulus made it for him! Regulus showed it to him once however it wasn't finished at that time. And the difference is that the gem on the ring is blue and not red.
"That's my ring." James barked at Pandora, he tried to hold her hand, but he wasn't fast enough.
"But you messed up, Potter. Regulus put it on my finger. It is mine, and so is Regulus. HE IS MINE POTTER, so stop following him."
"He isn't a thing, Pandora. He owns himself; he is a human being. And I owned him first." and he was proud of that. James was proud that he was Regulus first, "I am his first in everything."
"He was yours in secret, Potter. He is mine in Public. Nobody knows that you existed in his life. Under everyone's eyes, I am his first. And you might be his first but I will be his last Potter. And that means that you should leave him alone before I gouge your eyes for staring at my fiancee." Pandora leaned to him closer, in his left ear, "I am crazy for Regulus, Potter, and next time I catch you following him, the Potter household will lose their heir, and your parents will cry a river. Consider this as a threat Potter." Pandora then looked at his eyes before giving him a smile, her eyes is full of malice, and for the first time James felt scared, not for his friends, but for his life.
