Chapter 3
Once they got to the ship Remus went to grab his chart of constellations to show Sirius. “So,” Regulus starts, “how long have you guys been pirates?” he asks. James remains silent for a minute until he realised that Regulus was in fact talking to him. James smiles “Since I can remember.” Regulus gives him a look like he's asking him to continue. “Well our dads raised us together, told us we would rule the sea.” James smiled, almost stuck in a memory. He sits on the edge of the boat closing his eyes listening to the crash of the waves against the boat. “Where are your dads now?” Regulus asked, inching closer to James who is now sitting on the edge of the boat. “They were killed by sirens.” James says his voice stone cold. Regulus’ face dropped, his mouth slightly hanging open. “I’m sorry.” Regulus says genuinely putting his hand on James’. James laces their fingers gazing into Regulus' eyes. “You guys hungry?” Remus says coming up with his map in one hand and Sirius. Regulus pulls his hand away from James quickly, while James gives him a puzzling look. “I could eat.” Regulus says with a tightlipped smile. “James, go get the boat ready I’ll grab the harpoons.” James nods and silently goes to get the boat ready. Regulus should feel bad but he really didn’t its not like he promised him anything. Once they get onto the boat Regulus and Sirius are immediately confused. “Wanna see something cool?” Remus whispers to Sirius. Sirius gets a shiver down his spine and immediately nods. “We are gonna eat some good fish today I reckon Moony.” “I think you're right, Prongs” Remus says back just as confident. Sirius and Regulus share a look, very opposed to the idea of eating fish. When Remus goes to throw the harpoon and Sirius reaches for it, missing and falling in the water. Regulus' eyes widen as he watches his brother fall while tipping over the boat causing everyone to fall in. “What the hell?” Remus says aggressively once they all get back to the surface. “Why would you reach for the spear?” He says trying to be clearer. Remus looks over at James who is wide eyed staring in front of him mouth gaping. Remus looks where James is and sees it, two sirens. But these aren’t just any sirens, it's Regulus and Sirius. Sirius stares back at Remus, his mouth opening and closing like he is trying to find a way to explain what the hell just happened. He looks at Sirius just feeling betrayed, James still not saying anything. Regulus whispered something into Sirius' ear, Remus still just staring at him. Sirius gives him one last glance before they both dive into the ocean. Who knows when they would see eachother again, Remus told himself that he never wanted to again but deep down well, he knew that wasn't true.
