Chapter 4
The next day, after everything went down it was getting colder so Remus decided to go get some firewood. He wanted to take a bit of a walk anyway. He wanted to see Sirius again, but knew that it was unlikely.
Once he leaves the cave they have been staying in, he is met with a slight chill. He feels a shiver down his spine from the cool breeze. He starts walking over to the other side of the island listening to the loud waves crashing. There are a bunch of trees gathered together and he decides that will be his best bet to find fallen wood. Remus is trying hard, to only find wood that has already been chopped knowing the hate Sirius has for nature being ruined, at least this way he won't be the one doing it. Remus pushes his way through the bushes, the sound of the crashing waves becoming fainter.
As he continues to walk between the trees he hears a crunch from a few feet away but unable to see anything as the trees and bushes are blocking his view. Curious, he wanders further into the bushes but stops as he sees a figure kneeling down in bundles of flowers. This figure somehow brings a light to the foggy island. He tries to take a closer look at the figure and sees it is a face he recognizes, Sirius. Sirius is crouched down in the bushes and picks one of the flowers smelling it and smiling brightly at the scent. Remus doesn't know how but Sirius can somehow light up this whole island with just his smile. He stands up from the beautifully coloured flower and walks away.
Once Remus is sure that he is gone he goes to where Sirius just was. He feels cold and coated in fog, unlike how he felt when he was in Sirius’ presence. Remus’ hands reach for the flowers Sirius just had in hand. He wraps his fingers around the stem that Sirius had just held hoping that maybe he would feel his touch one more time, but the flowers have gone cold. Remus snaps his head up in the direction Sirius went and trails after him, flowers in hand.
He follows the path he saw Sirius take, and tries his best to catch up. Remus is pushing through bushes and trees, his previous mission forgotten. He finds Sirius standing on the beach. He breathes heavily, nervous to see Sirius. “Sirius,” he says softly, hoping he will hear him over the roaring waves. Remus can see Sirius’ body tighten at the sound of his voice. “What do you want?” Sirius said almost no emotion in his voice but there is a hint of fear. “It’s not like I have much of a choice since I am stuck here.” Remus replies to the question like the answer was obvious. He walks up to Sirius and tries to hand him the flowers. Sirius looks at him confused until he sees them. He gives Remus a funny look but takes them gently anyway. “How did you know these were my favourite?” he says, still confused. “Just a guess.” Remus says smiling. He continues, “Sirius, I'm sorry.” Sirius gives him a look because why would Remus be the one apologising? “I should have said something.” He whispers looking into Sirius eyes and he could tell he meant every word he just said, still he was afraid. “Remus, don't pity me, I know what I am. If you are going to run away please just do it now.” “Why would I run away?” Remus replied even though knew why Sirus thought he might. “I’m a monster.” The black haired boy said, looking at his feet not wanting to see Remus’ expression. There is silence and he is about to walk away when he feels a hand cupping his cheek. Sirius looks up and looks into Remus’ eyes. “You are beautiful.” He says, and he means it. Before Sirius knew it he and Remus were kissing. Their mouths fit like two pieces of a puzzle and he never wanted them to break apart. Remus can feel Sirius smile into the kiss, he hasn't been this happy in a long time.
