The Feast
Error talking
Nightmare talking
Thinking/X talking/Deity
Error jolted awake when the train whistled shrilly, slowing to a stop. He gently shook Inky awake, the small boy rubbing his eyes. "We're here already?" Inky asked sleepily, blinking slowly. "We sure are, buddy!" Blue exclaimed cheerfully while shrugging on his jacket. Inky yawned widely and slid off the seat, stumbling slightly. Error steadied him, looking down at his son in concern. "I'm fine, Papa." Inky said reassuredly, smiling at his father. Error smiled and pulled on his own jacket, leading the group out of the train.
"Firs' Years, over here!" A giant of a man yelled, holding a brightly glowing lantern. Error gently pushed Inky over in his direction, so he could join the other first years. After watching Inky join the group, Error and Blue headed over to the carriages, finding an empty one waiting for them. It was being pulled by a skeletal looking horse creature with leathery wings, though it was very docile when Blue started stroking its nose. Settling into the carriage, it lurched forwards, taking them to the castle ahead.
They quickly arrived at the school, the carriage having gone a different route then the students were taking. Stepping out, Error was quick to thank the thestral that pulled them by giving it some pats, which it happily accepted and nuzzled in to. As they walked into the school, Blue looked over at Error. "I wonder if Reaper knows about Thestrals?" he asked quietly. Error chuckled quietly. "Probably not, but I think he'll find the fact that you can't see them without seeing and understanding death somewhat funny." Error replied, chuckling at the thought.
They walked into the Great Hall, quickly taking a seat at the Head Table, where Pomona Sprout was waiting patiently for them, two empty seats next to her.As they settled in, the doors opened and students came pouring in, the sound of chattering filling the air as they all took their seats. Since Error and Blue had attended the yearly before school staff meeting, introductions were not needed. McGonagall came into the room a few moments later, carrying a ratty looking old hat and a scroll. The Headmaster entered behind her, looking a little ruffled. After placing the hat on a stool, McGonagall went to the doors and walked out for a few moments, only to return leading a small horde of students. Error easily picked out Inky among the group, as his shorter stature meant that he went up front so he wasn't buried among the others.
The mass of students stopped at the steps leading up to the stool, waiting around nervously. Then the hat opened its mouth and began to sing.
(Author's note: I am not making up a song or copy pasting one, that will lead to rage on my end. So just make up something for yourselves. Sorry.)
After the Sorting Hat finished its song, McGonagall cleared her throat and called, "James Tuckett!" A taller boy with dark hair walked up the steps and sat down, McGonagall placing the hat on his head. After a few moments, the hat bellowed, "HUFFLEPUFF!" James took the hat off and ran towards the Hufflepuff table with a wide grin on his face. After about 10 minutes, McGonagall called for "Inky Miscalculation!" The name caused some snickering from the Slytherin table, most notably from a pale blond teenager. Error frowned and marked the student in his mind; something told him he would be trouble.
Inky bounded up to the hat, causing many a girl to say "Aaawww..." at his enthusiasm. The hat was placed on his head... and promptly fell over his eyes due to his smaller size. The hat was only on his head for a few seconds before it yelled, "HUFFLEPUFF!" Inky cheered happily and handed the hat back to McGonagall, then skipped over to his table. The Sorting finished soon after that. Food suddenly appeared on the tables, causing many of the new students to gasp in surprise; one little girl even looked under the table to try and figure out what happened. Error just grabbed some bread and nibbled on the soft rolls, causing Blue to roll his eyes and grab his plate, used to Error's odd eating habits.
After the feast, Dumbledore stood up, spreading his arms wide. "Welcome all, to another year at Hogwarts! As you can see, we have a few new faces up here. Please welcome our new DADA Professor, Professor Miscalculation, along with his assistant, Professor Berrycloth." The students clapped politely, though there were mutterings when they remembered that there had been a kid sorted with the same last name as the new professor.
"I see that as we are all fed and watered, we are no doubt very sleepy, so off to bed we will trot!" Dumbledore said with a grandfatherly smile, waving his hands in a shooing motion. When all the students got up, Inky walked over to his father and his new Head of House, who were talking to each other. "Professor Sprout, is it ok if I sleep with my dad? He keeps the nightmares away." Inky asked the squat witch shyly. Professor Sprout nodded her acceptance quickly. "Oh heavens, it is perfectly alright! I just ask that you make certain to be at breakfast on time, and that you try to make some friends among your new House, ok?" she replied kindly. Inky smiled happily. "OK, I will! Thank you, Professor Sprout!" he said. Error chuckled and grabbed Inky's hand. "Come on kiddo, time for us to go get some sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a big day after all." he said as he led Inky and Blue to their new rooms. He had been shown the location of the rooms by Sir Nicholas (Error found that to be much more respectful than calling him 'Nearly Headless Nick'. The man had a name, it should be used properly.)
Entering the rooms, Error saw that there was a bed already made up for Inky. He smiled as Inky ignored it and just flopped down next to his father, mumbling quietly. "Come on kiddo, you need to change into pjs." Error told him gently, making him sit up. Inky whined but went to his trunk and dug around a little, while Blue started unpacking everything. Error just grabbed a T-shirt and some sweatpants to change into, waiting to enter the bathroom. After changing, Error sank into the very soft bed. Inky curled up next to him, the soft ears of his black cat footie pjs brushing against Error's face. He heard Blue walk into his room, that was right next to his. Closing his eyes, Error soon fell asleep, holding his son close.
