Dilemma & Decisions
Tokoyami sits at his desk, deciding if it was worth it to lift his head out of his arms, or to lower his head down from the clouds they had been drifting in.
"this is stupid... such a dumb thing to be worried about...." He muttered quietly to himself before placing his hands back into his arms.
Until he felt a warm hand with pedicured nails rubbing their hands on his head.
"Awwww! What's going on with you Toko!~~ What's got you down in the dumps?" A cheerful Uraraka called out, Ruffling a few of his feathers... Literally.
Tokoyami sat up and pushed away Uraraka's hand off of his head. Not letting go of it though.
"It's- it's nothing, Ochako.. It's more of a sillier thing to be worried about, I guess.. and it doesn't concern you." He put his words a bit more coldy then he would have liked.. But he didn't want to place his troubles on to a friend of his that he cared for. Uraraka Looked at him with a sad smile. She squeezed his hand tightly, and moved a bit closer to him.
"Look, I'm your friend Tokoyami. You shouldn't feel worried about telling me anything! If you're struggling with anything, please don't be afraid to tell me! You always got Ochako on your side!" She chipped out at him.
"Urara- Ochako. It's nothing like that, I just- I feel... I feel a little.. uh.. uhm.. Silly? Maybe that's not the right word... But I just feel like my worries aren't as serious as they may seem. I just think I might be overreacting a bit about this.." Tokoyami let go of Uraraka's hand and looked away.
Tokoyami looked over towards the window at the flocks of birds moving south-east in a v-shaped formation.
Ochako grabbed Toko's shoulder and turned his chair toward her in a mildy-irritated way.
"LOOK! I don't CARE if your worries are dumb or not! I will always be here to listen to them. NOW... lay it on me Tokoyami Fumikage!" She looked at him with her hands fisted into her hips and a prideful expression on her face. Tokoyami sighed, and lifted his head up to great the 5'5 brunette girl staring down at him. He rubbed his head a little bit, and a black feather fell out onto his desk. He sat up in his chair a little bit and began to speak.
"Okay, if you want to know SO BADLY... do you see those birds outside, perched on that tree?"
"Um.. No toko.. I-I don't.."
"EXACTLY. The birds aren't there, because they've migrated! IM SUPPOSSED TO BE MIGRATING TOO. Would you mind reading me the date please, Uraraka?"
"It's October 23th, why do you ask? Is there a deadline to migrate?" She replied. Met with an exasperated look on his face.
"Clearly you don't know ANYTHING about migration... there's no deadline to migrate. Hell, you can stay here all winter if you want to! That's what I've been doing for the past 16 years! This year though... I wanted to migrate.. I wanted to face my fears and finally do the thing I have been so afraid to do all my life. Hawks even taught me everything there is to know about it... But I'm afraid still... I don't have a flock to go with me."
Uraraka paused for a moment.
"If you're worried about flying alone, why don't you just ask Hawks to go with you?" She questioned.
"Because he already left for Jamaica last week. I told you, it's late in the season." He frowned.
"What about your parents? Surely they migrate too right? why not go along with them!" Tokoyami sighed and flashed her a sad look. Uraraka got the feeling that there was some pain about that sentence she said.
"My parents.. Well you're right. They do migrate every year.. They used to leave me alone for months on end while the wound up in sunny god-knows-where! That might of been the start of my fear of flying... But, not to my surprise might I add, they left earlier this year. About mid-September. Before it got cold I guess.. They're in the Bahamas, or should be about now." Tokoyami looked away from Ochako, and started to stare out the window again. However, she stayed determined.
"If you don't go this year... that might mean you could still stick around for our class costume party and culture festival! You shouldn't be so down, it's a win-win situation!" She cheered out.
"But I WANT to go! I want to finally get over my fear and go to nice, warm, South Africa! I..I hear It's wonderful this time of year...." Toko trailed off... Beginning to put his head down in the spot it was in once before, the reluctant girl pulled him up once more. This time, to his head. She stared into Tokoyami's eyes, having to look up as he towered over her. She grabbed both of his hands and pulled him backwards to the entrance of the class. Uraraka spread her arm around his shoulder and pulled Toko down to her height and gestured to class 1-A.
"The class Toko! I'm SURE someone here would ADORE South Africa with you! Just ask!" She looked over at him and smiled.
He gave it a brief thought before replying. Pulling himself back up to his original height.
"I guess I COULD take someone... But who would wanna go?"
"Not sure! that's for you to figure out! But, I do know that certain people have quirks that could make it easier for them to travel with you!"
"You'r-You're right, Uraraka, I should ask around! Starting in class first! And by the way you wouldn't want to-"
"No," She cut him off. "I wouldn't. This is your journey! Don't get me wrong, I'd love to! But, I have exams and, and I think he would like it if I stayed here and made sure my studies came first." She smiled softly. "And I think he would like to have seen you fly as well..."
The idea of Tokoyami's deceased friend approving his departure, filled him with hope and determination.
"You're right Ochako. Thank you so much for your help and advice!" He squeezed her a hug and began to wave goodbye as he walked towards his classmates. She waved back, and smiled sadly at tokoyami,
I hope he finds a companion.
