James has always avoided conflict. He hates being a burden and confrontation is just so stressful. He would never purposely hurt anyone. So of course he has mostly been ignoring Lily and Regulus' relationship. Of course still being respectful, just mostly avoiding them. He's still somewhat not entirely convinced about them, their relationship seems so random...? It started so quickly and while they have always talked about each other to James, he always assumed it was because of their common interests, not because they liked each other.
When he saw them so casually kissing in the library, everything broke.

𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒆
All she saw was James bolt past her in the library, heading towards the back corner. She was immediately concerned for two reasons.
Firstly, James would never not greet any of his friends. Actually he would never not greet anyone even if he didn't know them at all. Secondly, James always makes an entrance, it's one of his best traits. So him just bolting past without saying anything was cause for concern. Marlene quickly gets up from her table, where she was studying quidditch plays with her girlfriend to go find him. "I'll be back" She quickly says to Dorcas, who just hums in response.
When she gets to the back corner, she sees James with his arms around his knees where his head is resting against, his glasses next to him. "Jamie?" She asks quietly, "Jamie are you alright, what's wrong." She moves quickly to his side. James, just cries. James never cries, never. The only time Marlene has ever seen James cry was when Sirius had run away from his house, covered in blood. She had only ever seen James cry for Sirius. "What happened Jamie?" She strokes his hair, while his face is resting on her shoulder. "They were kissing, I saw them kissing." He sobs, holding her tighter.
"Oh James..."
