When a bad idea rises

Lily, Remus and Regulus had weekly book club meetings, except for some unusual reason Remus wasn't there. Lily and Regulus got along fine, aside from the fact James definitely had a crush on her and Lily knew all about his crush on James. So it was somewhat awkward. Lily didn't like James, not when he first liked her and not now. Although Lily doesn't think he ever stopped liking her but backed off because he respected her, which she appreciated. Remus disagreed, he was adamant that James had stopped liking Lily quickly after second year but that made no sense. Why would he always jump in their study sessions then? or their book club meetings? why would he stare at them when they were at dorm parties? He definitely had to like someone and has far as Regulus knows he would never likes his best friend, who is also his other best friend's ( basically other half's ) boyfriend. So he obviously still liked Lily.
James is also, really hot. So people are constantly flirting with him, and honestly it hurts seeing so many people going after him.
Regulus is currently watching some Ravenclaw girl flirting with James when he has the most wonderful idea. "Lily" He blurted, "I just had the most brilliant idea." Lils looked up from her book, pushing her long hair out of her face, "really? what is it?" she smiled. "What if we make James jealous?" He suggested. "What for?" Lily queried. "So he gets over you, and maybe starts noticing me." he answered. Lily stifled a laugh, "how would we make him jealous?" she pondered. "we could, pretend to be together or something? be super close when around him?" Lily seemed to think this over, and after discussing it more they had a plan.

Lily had Regulus had started...dating?
At first James thought it was a joke, Lily and Regulus? Surely they were too similar for that to work? James wasn't shy to admit he had a type. I means his first kiss was Remus for fuck sakes. But slowly after two weeks he started to realise maybe they weren't joking. His first ever crush and the person he had fallen in love with were...dating? how unlucky could one person be. James was definitely disappointed, he thought he maybe had a chance with Regulus. He really thought they had gotten somewhere. Even Remus wasn't convinced that Lily and Regulus were together, and some part of James still doubted it. They would hold hands and whisper to each other but they definitely weren't touchy like Remus and Sirius. Or James was just hoping it was all a big joke.
He could mostly ignore it though, Lily was genuinely to busy studying to talk to James anyway and James had been avoiding Regulus since Lily and him started...going out. mostly for James own sanity. "marlene how could they universe be so cruel" he whined in the common room, which was empty aside from himself and Marlene, James only confident at the moment. He would've spoken to Sirius but he thought it may be a little too awkward. And of course he would've loved to talk to Remus but Lily was Remus' best friend and he didn't want to cause any bad blood. Marlene was basically James' little sister at this point, they knew absolutely everything about each other so it wasn't unusual that he came to her with everything. "it is rather strange isn't it?" Marlene said as she lay with her head in James' lap. "seeing them together is torture marls, torture" he moaned, pausing playing with her hair to cover his face with his hands. "I know jamie" she patted his shoulder, "i know".
