It's all very ironic isn't it? All of the books about falling for your brother's best friend? it made sense to Regulus now. Mostly because he had the most embarrassing crush on James Potter but also he could now appreciate the predictably of it.
It's no longer just a crush anymore, it had started that way. When Regulus had just started at Hogwarts and never wanted to leave Sirius' side and that meant being around James. Which Regulus liked, as annoying as James was he was kind, he never made fun of Regulus, Which Sirius constantly did, and he respected Regulus more than anyone had ever before. So it started with admiration and then a crush.

As he got older however, he and Sirius had fallen out. Sirius left and it hurt. He hadn't even told Regulus he was leaving. He couldn't forgive Sirius for that, even if he understood why he had to leave. It meant, however that he saw less of James. He was sure Sirius had spun things his way the more they ignored each other but James was never any less kind. Peter, who Regulus never really spoke to much, had done just as Sirius did and started ignoring him. Remus was pleasant in a stand offish kind of way. But James never changed. He would greet Regulus as normal, he would congratulate his quidditch wins and would tell Regulus all about Sirius, what had happened the night he left, James perspective of everything at least.

Then he and James had become friends, which had somehow eventually bought Regulus and Sirius closer. Which then inevitably brought both their friendships together and now here they were, one big group in their Fifth and Fourth years.

His life was an absolute disaster. After his very short lived crush on Lily Evans, one of his closer friends now, he had sworn off crushes. Not only were they embarrassing and painful but they were often completely pointless.

Yet, he had a crush. Okay, no he wouldn't call it a crush, it was much more than a crush. He was absolutely awestruck and pathetically in love with Regulus. The worst part was Sirius wasn't even surprised when James had cracked and eventually told him. Sirius had thought it was predictable and hilarious. Remus however was a lot more supportive and he and James were now closer than they had ever been, sharing secrets that hadn't even told Sirius. This had been going on since the middle of Fourth year for James and it was now the third week of Fifth year. It actually hadn't been that painful or embarrassing, James would flirt with Reg, he would flirt back and James thought he maybe had a chance.

But now everything is at an all time low...
