To Be

He was asking for a beating if he didn’t inform Luc and Cissy about his pregnancy before Lady Black drop the bomb at the monthly tea reunion at Lady Parkinson’s.

He had sent the invitations to a small and private gathering. Naturally, Lord and Lady Rowle and his children, Lord and Lady Prince and his brothers and last but not least Lucy, Cissa and “Remy”.

He had been the dutiful husband his mother had raised him to be and probed Sirius about inviting James Potter to the evening.

He didn’t want him there obviously, but Sirius was his husband, the now love of his life. If he wanted James Potter for the gathering, he would’ve sent the invitation. Thank Merlin, his husband had declined. He was not going to invite him over before getting an apology from him first.

He was okay with Remus being there, he was a coward, yes, but he was not a bad friend of Sirius and at least he had the beginning of a consciousness, growing painfully slowly in his head but at least germinating.

That’s why we wanted to do something nice for Remus and the world itself.

He was too trusting, too loyal, too gullible. Never a good combination. It was better if someone else, reliable could guide him.

Naturally, he was not naïve enough to believe that it was solely his own idea.

Lady Walburga had been giving little comments here and there about how it was a pity that a child so adorable like Remus was not part of their circle. She had even went as far as stating the obvious way to get him into the polite circle of company.

Aish, he guessed that now it was his choice to make it happen before she did it herself.

It had been hard, convincing Sirius to cooperate with him, but it was not so hard after looking at him with puppy eyes while being nuzzled in his neck.

Naturally, they were going to be discreet.

He went down the stairs to formal dinning room. This time it was necessary. After all, they were twelve guests, and they were five themselves.

Soon, they started to arrive. First, the Prince family, then the Rowles, soon the Malfoys and lastly Remus who arrived alone like a lost puppy between the rich people.

Madeleine, that bitch of his aunt-in-law, sneered as soon as Remus appeared in what was probably his best robes.

Sirius sent her a murderous look, so she stopped momentarily. Remus blushed at that and decided to hide a little closer to Sirius.

Soon they were all gathered at the table.

- As you know, we are here to share some happy news – Lord Orion started directly.

- It scaped our attention when the boys married but Severus was born a male carrier – he announced with a fake sense of rotundness.

- That’s wonderful, dear – Lady Prince was the first to speak.

She carried a warm smile while looking to the unsightly face of Lucius Malfoy, the young Lord was turning a shade of green fairly quickly.

- Oh, Sev, that’s wonderful, no nasty potions for you then – Narcissa said while pinching Lucius thigh under the table.

- Definitely, no. Afterall, Severus here is already carrying his first child for the Black Bloodline – Walburga said softly.

At her statement, Lucius opened his eyes comically. Regulus was trying to cover his mouth with his hands at the sight. Narcissa sent him a glare and Remus seemed to sniff the air a little bit.

What was out of place was a thundering laugh that was coming from Lord Tommen.

- That’s good, you should take seriously your duty as a bride of House Black. The most important thing is to give the family some heirs – at his comment Madeleine stiffened in her chair and lose some confidence in her stance.

Thorfinn’ eyes had a menacing glint before looking down and sipping his champagne glass. Now, it was obvious that Severus was not drinking the same. Was it really so difficult to bear a child again? He was getting impatient with his father’s reprimands. He had decided to marry late, and his wife took years to birth a child, then the child was a daughter, and his father was not satisfied. It seemed that he would have to take matter in his own hands.
Severus was not preoccupied by the troubled state of mind of his uncle. He was busy receiving the congratulations from his family and friends. Even if Narcissa’s stare promised some retaliation for not knowing beforehand, he felt calm.

Soon they started eating under a joyous atmosphere. Later the started to spread to the garden and the sitting room to mingle and talk with each other.

Lucius and Narcissa kidnapped Severus to his chambers while Sirius approached Remus.

Sirius was walking as if he was stepping on clouds. The feral grin in his face could tell everyone how pleased he was with his husband carrying his child. Remus had to say that he felt a little bit, just a tiny bit, envious of what Sirius has gotten back.

His own mother, Hope, had left him.

She sadly died in the middle of his seventh year. As soon as possible, Lyall Lupin couldn’t bear anymore the thought of having a werewolf son and left him behind in their small cottage in Wales. He said not to contact him again and that fending off for himself was the best outcome, either way he will always be alone with his affliction.

He had not seen him since.

Now, looking at the extended happy family in front of him, he couldn’t help but feel a little sad and out of place.

Even the small family of two, Lucius and Narcissa, were reassured in their sense of family, of warmth, company, and love. He was craving it so bad.

Sirius stared intently at his friend during the whole night. Since the moment he arrived up until now, being one in front of the other. He had seen how pitiful he looked in the middle of his family, how his gaze turns from longing, to sadness, to confusion, to disappointment even.

He hadn’t been exactly convinced with what he knew to be his mother and husband’s plan to integrate Remus in their circle, to give him what he really needed. He was hesitating, but then he saw another side of his old friend.

They were always playing, laughing and together. Now, he was alone and maybe this was the proper way to solve his problem.

- Reemyyy – he whined as playfully as he could get away with. Soon Remus was throwing hands at him to get him off his shoulder.

- So meany, Remy – he said with puppy eyes.

- What do you want, Sirius? – he asked doubting his intentions right away. Remus was always too perceptive when it came to his friends. Sadly, that didn’t apply to the overall world.

- Remy, you know, I’ve been mingling along the pureblood circles now that I’m back to be the heir of House Black. And talking here and there, about many things and with many people, about any topic actually – Remus put a hand on his lips to shut him up.

- Siri, if you don’t get to the point, I’m going to leave you here and run to the fireplace, get it? – he was on his nerves. Normally, he was calm and collected. Kind and respectful. Today, he was just… hurting.

- Well – Sirius smiled apologetically – I meant to ask you if you knew about some things like another type of purebloods, furry purebloods. – he said mischievously.

- What are you talking about, Sirius? – he said alarmed.

- Well, I’ve been treading new paths, and I had the opportunity to meet someone, he explained to me that there is also a place in the wizarding community for werewolves. At this point, some people are trying to pass some laws to harden even more lives for them, but it is not passing because of families like ours in the wizengamot. I had the pleasure of meeting a Lord, of the Dark Faction, that just happens to be a werewolf. Everyone knows it really.

- What? – Remus was dumbfounded – if everyone knows what he is how is it that he is allowed to be a Lord?

- Well, there are no laws that forbid him from it, he got his title from his birthright. His family had been of furry ones for centuries. It seems they like to keep the trait in the family, he explained to me that they pass their title to the Alphas of the family. He is an Alpha werewolf. You are not one, are you? – the question had shaken him off.

- No, I am not. I’m a beta – that he knew since he was four. He was not commanding as an alpha not submissive enough to be an omega.

- Well, that’s obvious, if you are not an alpha you have to be a beta, because, you see, Remus, omegas are not born, they are made – he said matter-of-factly – and it just so happens that this Lord I’m telling you about is looking for an omega-to-be.
