The First Day

"Morning, Thor" Tyler mumbled from behind the already tired Donovan from being up less than an hour.
The Lockwolf hugged her wrapping his arms softly around her tummy, which Matilde loved.
Others wouldn't, but anything cruel that came out of their mouth; practically slapped them across the face when the witch was finished with them.

It all stemmed from always being too thin I'm her past life. Whether it was her life with her relatives and constantly surviving on her magic. Or the food at Hogwarts being too rich for her and her stomach blaming her. Or not having any food at all on the run, so the three of them constantly slept to regain some magic and not felt like complete shit from just existing
So while Matilde was loving the feeling of snuggling her favourite triggered wolf, Tyler was making sure not to get in the way of her making food.

"You know this is why people think you're both together, Mattie" Victoria Donovan mused as she waited for more coffee to be made as someone had drunk the rest of the caffeinated drink that was not even the slightest bit warm; Matilde

"Why can't two gorgeously handsome people be friends, Tori" Matilde grumbled, as she placed three blueberry pancakes down on the kitchen island for Tyler to drown them in golden syrup
"Because people are morons" Tyler answered, before digging into the hot pancakes with vigor

Once finished, the eldest Donovan told the pair who had yet to get dressed for school, "Alright, I'll be back at the weekend. Try not to burn down the house"
The last comment was for her baby sister, as she knew what happens every time she gets angry; exhibit A, the sign on her bedroom wall

Heading for the door she grabbed the pair of keys that were for the SUV Richard Lockwood gave Tyler for his 16th Birthday.
The mayor's son had practically demanded the woman who was more family than they people who gave birth to him, to use it.
As Victoria Donovan was officially moving into a house on campus, it was requirement of her to do so. This also meant Vicki had to get a new job, luckily in another bar near where she was soon to be living

The car was also a bribe for Tyler to come home. And it did in fact work, long enough for Tyler to punch his father square in the face and brake his jaw in three places.
All before strutting out of the Manor, getting in the car, and driving off with Matilde in the passenger seat, sticking her middle finger at the mayor and his wife when they tried to stop him from leaving.

Hindsight, not the best thing to do as that was before his trust fund magically vanished, meaning all three of them had to get jobs.
One was a barmaid, another record shop assistant, and the last one sold a few paintings.
Not including the magic done for the right price; it was just enough to make sure the bills were paid and a nice cushion in case they needed to flee at a moment's notice

About 20 minutes later, Matilde was sitting on the sofa lacing up her embroidered high tops, waiting for the town's resident Werewolf to hurry up.
Eventually, Tyler strolled down the stairs, in a pair of white-washed jeans that would be drawn on by the end of the day. A simple eucalyptus Henley, which didn't take the focus off the three necklaces he always wore.

Throwing Matilde her matching leather jacket, Tyler did a little spin asking "How do I look"
"Like you normally do" Matilde smirked, getting up and walking towards the front door
"I like to put in effort," Tyler squawked indignantly, following after her. He took pride in his wardrobe, and not everyone can always have the perfect cat eye every day, or have the fluffiest peach curls even after having a helmet on. He really hated magic sometimes

Pulling into the carpark, Tyler headed straight into the building; he needed to talk to his art teacher about a competition that could win him a summer internship in Paris learning at the Louvre. After a quick kiss to Matilde's helmet, he was gone.

Turning off her ignition, Matilde made no effort in moving as she pulled out a box of pre-rolled cigarettes; they were a special blend.
She didn't care for the looks of disgust or others' judgement. The truth is, no one bothered her, so she did the same.
It was nice sitting in her little bubble of smoke, that was until a new face decided to tap her leather-clad shoulder

"Yes?"

Stefan Salvatore was heading back to school, for the nth time. He had been here for months and in simple terms stalked the town's inhabitants; a few more than others.
The first was the person he was actually staying for, for the time being at least, that was Elena Gilbert. The person who could be the twin of infamous Katherine Peirce, the woman who played brother against brother and ended in death.
Another was a girl who had the scent of burning wood and fresh rain following her every step

Her accent surprised him, British, Cockney very Cockney. Stefan also couldn't understand how much annoyance could be placed in such a small word, but then again, she normally glared which could make the devil submit
"Can I help or..."
"Right, sorry." He blinked, her eyes were the brightest blue he had ever seen; not a patch on his brothers. "I'm Stefan, the new guy"
"Welcome to hell," Matilde smirked, before letting out another plume of electrifying smoke

Readjusting his backpack strap on his shoulder, Stefan felt like the 17-year-old he was frozen at. "Can you perhaps show me how to get to the registration office?"
"Sure," Matilde shrugged flicking the end of her dying butt onto the ground, while sliding off her bike.

Calling over her shoulder, "This way, mate"
Stefan quickly caught up, which wasn't particularly hard as everyone seemingly parted, letting her and the vampire walk not only in silence but as fast as possible

In the school office, the secretary looked up from her computer screen the moment the door opened
"Miss Donovan. Wonderful, you're here," she snidely muttered under her breath, before yelping at the intense electric shock flow throughout her finger up her arm.

"Hello," The vampire said, gaining the attention off of Matilde, who he believed could burn the school down if she felt like it. "I'm Stefan Salvatore"
"See ya," Matilde finger saluted him, and Stefan could swear he saw sparks the same shade as her eyes

She hadn't even managed to take one step towards the door before the sharp tone for the bitchy secretary bounced around the Witch's head "Miss Donovan. Maybe you could show some school spirit and show Mr Salvatore around school"
"That isn't—"

"Mrs Narttu," Matilde condescendingly sighed, cutting off Stefan's weak protest, "the only spirit you know is the one in your mug"
Easily ignoring the woman who now was doing a fine impression of a fish, all to face Stefan who was looking at her in horrified awe "I'll be outside"

Once the receptionist managed to find her voice, she cleared her throat similarly to a woman dressed in nothing but pink "Mr Salvatore your records are incomplete. You're missing immunization records, and we do insist on transcripts"

"Please look again," Stefan said lifting his sunglasses that he was sure Matilde was silently judging, and easily compelled the secretary "I'm sure everything you need is there"
Mrs Narttu gave him a bright and uncharacteristically kind smile, saying "Well, you're right. So, it is"

From her position, leaning against one of the lockers outside the school office, Matilde saw Bonnie Bennett who was trying and failing in looking inconspicuous by openly staring at the new student. Even when she was caught, Bonnie tilted her head like a lost puppy, before walking away.
It wasn't an unusual look Bonnie had when being in either of the Donovan's presence, it wasn't a surprise not after Sheila had yelled at Kelly "Your daughter's, will end us all. Abominations; the pair of them"

Stefan cleared his throat, either he was eager and utterly insane or he wanted to see if Matilde would be startled.
She wasn't. All she did was roll her out worldly eyes, kicked off the lockers; once again calling over her shoulder "Let's go, Mr Salvatore"

Stefan felt intimidated and highly wary of the young woman he dutifully followed. He was starting to feel like he should never have even asked for help from her, and it only intensified by the amount of mockery she used in addressing his name.

While pointing out every object Matilde saw with the exhilaration one has when watching paint dry, she turned towards Stefan when he let out a small grunt as a door hit him in the face. Turns out she wasn't the only one to notice, as Elena Gilbert materialised to help "Oh my god, are you alright"
"Nothing broken," Stefan said, snapping his nose back into place "Um... is this the men's room?"
"Yes." Elena nodded.

Weighing up all the options in her head, the best outcome was to pretend this never happened. Unfortunately, every step Elena took to try and get away, Stefan blocked her way.
If it was deliberate or not, Elena was thankful for the distraction Matilde gave her and used it to walk in the complete opposite direction to where she needed to go

"I'm getting second-hand embarrassment," Matilde mused, making Stefan the vampire over a century old, jump. "Come on you have History"
"How did you know?" his forehead gained wrinkles someone of his age shouldn't have, well his physical age that is
"I can read upside down," Matilde shrugged, already done with this line of questioning
"Oh"

Rolling her eyes, Matilde walked towards the staircase that was just around the corner. Once Stefan's quick footsteps sounded behind her, she mused distastefully "This way to the misogynistic homophobe, Mr Tanner. He's most likely racist too, if that Confederation flag he has in his mug is anything to go by"

"How does he still have a job?" Stefan wondered in utter disgust. Yes, he lived during the Civil War, and yes, his father kept slaves, but he was the one who taught them to read, became friends and eventually helped them escape. His father wasn't exactly pleased
"I don't think anyone else applies," Matilde answered, breaking him out of his thoughts of the man who killed him. "That and Tanner was born and raised here, he knows where the bodies are buried"

"That's bleak," Stefan blinked, faultering ever so slightly
"That's life," Matilde deadpanned. "A shit storm, filled with more shit"
