The forming of The Herb, aka, platform, train and sorting

Rose walked in on the platform, her brother was already trying to hide his tearing eyes. She was in her robes, she couldn’t wait to put them on. She had spent the whole night packing, unpacking, checking if everything’s there and packing again. She was very excited to finally go to Hogwarts! Well, there was one con on going – Hugo won’t be going for another two years! Yes, she was relieved to have a little freedom, but she knew she would miss him dearly and the worry about his anxiety attacks… Well, at least her best friends, Albus and Alice, were going to be there, too, and many of her cousins were already there, right?
“Do you have all of your books?” Her mother asked. “Your potion supplies? The cat?”
“’Mione, calm down!” Her father said. “She has everything. Anyways, where are the Potters?”
“They’re coming” Hugo stated.
Rose ran to her cousin, Albus, as Hugo approached Lily. James was probably already with his friends, he already had ones, he was staring his second year. The adults started a, in Rose’s opinion, boring conversation about her father’s driver’s license.
“Al, are you okay?” She asked him with worry in her voice. He looked very pale.
“I’m just worried about the sorting, that’s all,” he answered.
“Well, whatever houses we get sorted in, you are not getting rid of me and Ali!” Rose laughed. “We’re too stubborn and we love you too much to let you go over a house!”
“But what if people make fun of me?” He questioned, more himself than her. “What if I’m in Slytherin?”
“Then you are a Slytherin! And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that!” She reassured him. She didn’t understand why he was so worried, it’s just a house! “And who gives a damn about what people think! Slytherins are ambitious and cunning! Uncle Harry himself was almost a Slytherin. Also, the prejudice towards the house is almost nonexistent. People won’t say anything. And if they do, I’ll break necks.”
“Ro!” He exclaimed at the last sentence. “Don’t get yourself expelled the first possible chance you get, please?”
“Look who’s here,” Rose’s father said before she could answer Al.
He was looking at a family of three. The man, who Rose assumed was the father, had blond, almost white hair and sharp features. The boy looked a lot like him, they were almost identical, but there was something in his expression that reminded of the dark haired woman smiling next to them. She was obviously very excited, but she looked quite sad, too.
“So that’s little Scorpius,” Ron broke the silence. “Make sure you beat him on every test, Rosie. Thank God you’ve got your mother’s brains.”
“Ron!” Hermione exclaimed half strictly, half amused. “Don’t turn them against each other before they even started school!”
“Okay, you’re right!” Ron gave up. “But don’t get too friendly with him, though,” He said quietly, so only Rose and Hugo could hear him. “Granddad Weasley would never forgive you if you married a pureblood.”
Rose choked on her spit and Hugo laughed.
“Dad, I’m eleven!” She protested. How could he even suggest something like that!
“Also, aren’t you a pureblood, too, Dad?” Hugo asked, sounding confused. Their father didn’t answer, he didn’t think of that.
The blond man, whose name was Draco, as Rose recalled, caught them looking at him. He said something to his son, who turned to look at them. Draco facepalmed and the woman laughed. The boy caught eye contact with Rose. She smiled a little and waved. He looked surprised but returned it.
James ran to them breathless. He looked full of news.
“Guess what I just saw! Teddy snogging Victoire!” He exclaimed. He looked disappointed at the lack of reaction. “Our Teddy. Teddy Lupin. Snogging our Victoire! Our cousin!” He repeated. “He said he came to tell her goodbye-”
“You interrupted them?” Aunt Ginny asked. “That’s something Ron would do.”
They were alerted to get on the train.
Rose hugged her dad, her aunt and uncle and Lily. She turned to her mum, who kissed her forehead and said “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
Rose nodded. Hermione was Kingsley’s right hand and everyone thought she was going to be elected as the next Minister of Magic. This meant the Granger-Weasleys were watched at every move, so Rose and Hugo had to be the picture-perfect children. This was in Hugo’s nature, but Rose really struggled with it. This automatically meant Hugo was Hermione’s favourite. Ron didn’t care much and she, being the first daughter, spent more time with him, than Hugo did.
Hugo almost pushed his sister in the ground with his hug. He was obviously crying.
“Promise to write?” He choked.
“Everyday.” She soothed, smoothing his hair.
She got on the train and started searching for Ali. She was the one choosing the compartment and Rose and Al were supposed to look for her.
When Rose found the right compartment, Al was already there. When she saw her, Ali jumped and hugged her.
“I missed you!” Ali squealed.
“You saw me yesterday!” Rose laughed.
“She did that to me, too,” Al joined the conversation.
Alice was kind of like that. Rose and Albus were as close as twins. Well, they were born on the same day, too. Alice was their best friend since birth, she was a few months younger than them, and the three were inseparable. Little did they know they were about to meet their fourth member in less than ten minutes…

Scorpius went past the last compartment. Nobody wanted to sit with him. He knew why, everyone knew that. It was because of the tattoo on his father’s arm – the dark mark. Yes, his dad used to be a death eater. So what? He’s changed! He started a new life, a family and was generally a very different person! There was nothing left from the prejudiced bully he used to be!
But Scorpius couldn’t convince others about this.
There was only one compartment left. The one he wanted to avoid. He was only going through compartments with only first years and he was never going to be accepted in the last one.
But he had to try. He opened the door.
The sky blue eye he looked at half an hour ago were piercing his again.
“Hello? Can we help you?” The red haired girl asked.
“Hi, urm, I was wondering if I could sit here,” he muttered, “but you’ll probably say no, so, urm, sorry to bother you.”
“Why wouldn’t we want you to sit with us?” The green eyed boy stood up.
“Yeah, you look nice!” The blonde girl said confused.
“Well, nobody else wanted to sit with me because of my dad-”
“We don’t care about parents!” The redhead spoke again. “I’m Rose! You must be Scorpius Malfoy.”
“Yeah, nice to meet you!”
“I’m Albus, but please don’t use my full name, I prefer Al,” the boy introduced.
“I’m Alice, nice to meet you!” The other girl said, sounding very excited for some reason.
Scorpius was surprised, they were the people he thought were going to reject him the most harsh way possible! But they greeted him so warmly! They were the first people on this train who did this.
“We were just about to play exploding snap,” Al said. “Do you want to play with us?”
“Sure!”
“Hey, just to be clear, the loser has to complete a dare,” Alice warned. “That’s how we play it every time.”
“I don’t have a problem with that!” Scorpius said.
At the end Al lost. Rose and Alice gestured for Scorpius to come so they can think of the dare. They decided to make him go in every compartment and declare emotionally how much he loves his older cousin Victoire, the Head Girl.
The confused looks of the other students and Al’s red face were incredible, but the best part was at Victoire’s compartment.
“Vic,” Al started, “you are my role model! I love you more than I love my own mother! You are the best person ever to be born!”
Vic looked horrified and Scorpius, Rose and Alice were dying from laughter.
“He lost a game of exploding snap,” Rose choked. “Don’t worry Vic!”
They spent the rest of the ride playing more exploding snap (to which Al always lost and embarrassed himself many times), eating sweets and getting to know each other. The train ride was way better than Scorpius imagined.

The four of them were in the same boat across the lake. Now, it was time for sorting.
A few names were told and it was time for Rose.
“Ahh, another Weasley!” The sorting hat said in her mind. “You guys are multiplying like rabbits! Soon I’ll have to make a fifth house just for this family! Anyways… Interesting, very interesting. Very smart, very kind, ohh, bravery, ambition… You’ll fit in all four houses!”
“If you make me choose, I’ll tell the Slytherins you thought they weren’t ready for my mother,” Rose thought.
“Are you blackmailing me, young lady?”
“Yes.”
“Slytherin will be a nice option, you’ll fit well, but no. You have a lion heart.”
“What does that mean?”
“You’ll understand later in your life.”
Rose hated this response. It was like when adults say ‘you’ll understand when you’re older’, instead of explaining it.
“GRIFFINDOR!” The sorting hat shouted.
Everyone clapped and she sat next to James.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
More names were called and then it was Alice’s turn.
“Oh, I see. You are kind, ohh, loyal, hm, can be Hufflepuff, but no. Ahh, I know. GRIFFINDOR!”
She sat next to Rose and they hugged. This meant they even had a chance of sharing a dorm!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was Scorpius’ turn.
He sat on the chair and professor Longbottom, Alice’s dad, put the hat on his head.
“Oh, a Malfoy! Interesting, very interesting… Bravery, hm, intelligence… Oh, I know just the right place for you. SLYTHERIN!”
Only the Slytherins and his new friend cheered for him, as expected. He sat on his table.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was Albus’ turn. He was very worried about this.
“Another Weasley! Your name may be Potter, but you’re still a Weasley! Anyways… Oh… Oh, you’ll hate me for this, but… SLYTHERIN!”
The room was silent. One second, two, three…
Then Rose got out if her shock and started clapping. This brought Alice, Scorpius and the rest of the Weasley-Potter family to their senses. Soon, the room was full of cheers. He sat next to Scorpius with a smile on his face.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the feast they all went to their dormitories. As expected, Alice and Rose shared a dorm with Monica Thomas-Finnigan, Kayla Bell and Lianna Jordan. Al and Scorpius were together, too, and the other boys with them were Ashton Thomas-Finnigan, Colleen Creevey II and Jack Nott, Scorpius’ cousin. They all fell asleep the moment they walked into their dorms and had dreamless nights.
