Rescue
Inside the cabin the air was thick with the weight of everything that had just been said, the tension still crackling like static in the space Jackie had left behind. No one moved. No one spoke.
Then came the sound of the door wrenching open, Jackie stood in the doorway for half a second, her silhouette rigid, her breath visible in the dim light. And then—she was gone.
The door slammed shut behind her, rattling the walls, making the firelight flicker. A few of the girls exchanged glances, but no one made a move to stop her. Shauna’s hands were still curled into fists at her sides, her face pale, lips parted as if she might call Jackie back. But she didn’t. No one did. They all just sat in the silence, slowly picking up their bowls and beginning to eat.
"Well if Jackie's not going to eat I mean Ill take her share." Mari spoke with a questioned tone
Taissa then stood up and began "Again no one is eating anyone's, ill go take it to her once were all done." her voice firm and commanding.
"Wait why not just bring it now?" asked misty still shoving her face with the soup.
Tai let out a sigh then replied " Well I think she needs a moment" a beat goes by "and I think she should have to wait a bit because of her outburst."
Natalie let out a chuckle " Never thought id see the day Taissa Turner is being petty, not going to lie its refreshing.".
"Oh shut it Nat!" Tai said with a laugh. This seemed to bring some life back into everyone, conversations started throughout the cabin. Though Shauna sat by the door eating in silence, a look in her eye telling everyone she was thinking.
There was a buzzing in the cabin, everyone talking all at once, laughs, cries, everything. But there was another buzz, something like a vibration, no one really picked up on it, probably just pushed it to the side. Not Jackie, this buzzing was irritating her, what was it? Then it became louder, and louder, eventually the talks in the cabin became about the buzzing. The trees outside swayed like it was a storm then a scream.
Jackie.
Jackie was screaming, loud.....happy?
The group runs out just to see Jackie waving her arms in the air and screaming, tears falling down her red cheeks. It was a fucking helicopter
"Oh my god! Oh my fucking god!" Van screamed as she joined in with Jackie. Soon everyone was waving their arms and screaming. There was no clear enough landing to actually touch down, it had to fly to where the old guys plane is. Eventually it does manage to touch down and immediately the girls start trying to get on. They all stop when a guy dressed in all black steps off and begins talking.
"You girls are safe now don't worry. Your the Yellowjackets yes?" they all chime in some form of yes " Good good, we have another copter not far about 5 minutes out, they are gonna come here and land 7 of you will come in this copter and 8 of you in the other. Once we leave it'll be about 30-45 minutes till we reach the hospital in which all you will be evaluated and we'll go from there, sound good?" Once again the girls say yes. Soon the second helicopter comes and the girls board. Jackie, Misty, Shauna, Tai, Crystal, Melissa, and Coach are in helicopter one and Van, Lottie, Travis, Javi, Natalie, Laura lee, Akilah, and Mari are in helicopter two. 52 minutes, they spent 52 minutes in those helicopters waiting to finally be in some form of civilization again. Once they land and get off of the copters the group is asked to stand to side as one by one they are all taken into hospital room. Coach Ben was first, then Van, after a while they got Akilah, the Crystal, Jackie, Javi, Laura Lee, Lottie, then an hour went by before they took any more, finally Mari was taken back, melissa too, then it was Misty's turn, soon Natalie, then Tai, and finally Travis.
It was all over.
Right?
Right?
I mean they got out. What else could possibly happen. It was all over. No wilderness. No hunger. Nothing. They would return back to school soon, to their families, and everything would be back to normal, right?
