Regulus POV

Being with James was just as amazing as Regulus always thought it would be. Somehow his plan from when he was a teenager had worked out. Regulus chased away all the people James had tried to date until James settled for him. It happened sooner than he thought it would have, Regulus assumed it would happen when he was forty and James was scared of dying alone and childless. His failed marriage probably helped accelerate the process. That's what happens when the person you are in love with and plan on spending the rest of your life dumps you on a random Wednesday.

He was pretty sure James was happy with him. He seemed happy. Regulus hadn't really done the whole relationship thing before except for the five minutes his sophomore year of high school where he was that dumbass's boyfriend, but Regulus and James seemed to have a good relationship. It was very cookie-cutter.

They did the third date sex, which happened to be amazing. Like the best sex he ever had, amazing, and Regulus had had a lot of sex. Lily is a fucking crazy woman for ever wanting to divorce this man, amazing. Then after a respectable three months of dating, James had told Regulus he loved him.

Which, once again, was amazing.

Regulus was pretty sure James had meant it. Regulus knew James loved him and had known it since he was about seven years old, but he wasn't quite sure if James was in love with him. He definitely was attracted to Regulus, he had also known that since they were in college because when he would touch James in a certain way 'accidentally' he would have 'certain bodily reactions.' So Regulus wasn't worried about that part of their relationship.

Regulus didn't think he was anywhere near as beautiful as Lily was or anything but James seemed plenty happy with him physically.

Regulus knew he probably wasn't the type of person James really wanted to end up with. Regulus probably wasn't going to be the best father and he was generally a mess. But he was assuming that James was okay with who Regulus was because James had always known that he was a disaster. James had known about the bar hookups, seen the green hair phase, known about the quantity of booze he drank, and James had even met Regulus’ mother.

Not that his mother knew they were dating. His mother didn't really like James but a long time ago Regulus had convinced her that James was always helping him with her school work so she didn't really mind him.

SIrius on the other hand had been ecstatic when James and Regulus had finally gotten together. He literally started crying. Sirius had been almost as happy that James and Regulus were now together as Regulus, which is saying a lot. He had gone on and on about how now James and him were brothers. Which was a little bit presumptuous. Regulus did wonder if Sirius had ever said anything to James about them dating before he had asked Regulus out. He had been a bit blindsided when James had asked so it would make sense if Sirius had been the one to suggest it. When James had first gotten back to Chicago and was trying to build back his relationship with Sirius, he would have done anything that Sirius had wanted.

Either way, Regulus and James were happy. Maybe James was with him for convenience and settling purposes but he knew that James loved him in some way, shape, or form. Plus the sex was great so Regulus really didn't have any complaints.

James’ mother had been ecstatic when they got together too. Plus, Remus won a significant amount of money in the betting pool when they announced that they were together. Regulus had figured the betting pool had stopped after James had gotten married, but he guessed none of James’ friends had really thought he and Lily were a good match.  Regulus felt a hand that he immediately recognized slip around his waist as he leaned back against James’ body, "Are you studying tonight?" He whispered into Regulus’ ear.

"It depends on what offers I get," Regulus responded.

"Hmm, what could someone do to persuade you to be free?" He asked as he moved Regulus’ hair behind his ear.

"I don't know, what do you have to offer?" Regulus asked as he smiled and turned around to face him.

"I was thinking wine, steaks, and the patio," He smirked. They had recently moved into a small house not too far from where James’ mother lived.

"Ooo, you're very persuasive." Regulus flirted. He loved that he could blatantly flirt with James now.

"It's one of my many talents." James grinned.

"Many?" Regulus raised an eyebrow.

"No need to be jealous, you have many talents too." James teased.

"Oh, I know I do," Regulus said as James’ pager went off.

"Crap, I gotta go. Does seven work?" He asked as he bent forward to kiss Regulus on the cheek.

"Yup!" Regulus smiled at his boyfriend.

"Okay, see you then. Love you." James said, then he gave Regulus one more kiss, the lips this time, and then he began to walk away.

"Love you too!" Regulus called out after him. And he did. Regulus was completely and madly in love with him. It didn’t matter if their relationship probably came from his brother telling James to ask him out. It didn’t matter if part of James was still in love with his ex-wife. Regulus would make damn sure that James was as happy as possible because James was already making Regulus the happiest man on earth.
