Chapter 1

Annabeth couldn't help but stand there feeling shocked and somewhat betrayed.

She looked over at her boyfriend, Percy, who looked even more baffled then she did, she turned back to the man she thought had been her father, all these years.

"You-you lied to me, for seventeen years, how could I have never known? Why didn't you tell me!"

Annabeth felt the anger rise, she was beyond pissed, her entire life was practically a lie. The man she thought was her father, wasn't really her father but her first cousin once removed.

Not even an uncle.

Percy just stood there looking back and forth between Annabeth and Frederick Chase, not really sure how he personally, was supposed to react to this news.

"I'm so sorry Annabeth" Frederick said. He couldn't even look her in the eyes. He pinched the bridge of his nose in distress, like he was the one who had been lied to all these years.

"Your sorry? You've treated me like absolute crap all my life, is this why? Is it because i'm not your real daughter? Is it because you had to take care of a kid that wasn't even yours!"

Annabeth felt the tears that had been brimming in her eyes threaten to spill. She quickly wiped them away before anyone could notice.

No she would not cry.

Frederick looked at a loss for words before whispering "I thought your mother would tell you, after all she had been the one to bring you to me."

Annabeth looked at him shocked at his stupidity. "You and I both know my mother isn't human, she is incapable of understanding human emotions, she wouldn't have understood this. She would have never told me."

Once upon a time Annabeth used to respect her mother to the point she would go and worship the ground she walked on, but that had been years ago, before the two wars Annabeth played a role in, before the multiple quests she had to go, before she knew how awful her mother was.

Percy's mouth went agape the moment she insulted her mother, It was usually Percy who disrespected the Gods between the two of them, seeing Annabeth disrespect a Goddess, that also so out in the open, and said Goddess also being her mother, it was no wonder Percy was shocked.

Her traitorous 'father' on the other hand just flinched.

"Don't say something like that so out in the open she could hear you."

Annabeth couldn't help but roll her eyes.

"Did you and my mother actually meet the way you said you met, or was that a lie too?"

His eyes went misty, Annabeth almost felt bad for him, keyword almost.

"Please don't start crying and acting like your the victim , i'm the one who just found out that the reason I felt like I never belonged here was because I actually don't belong here."

"Yes, I did meet Athena at Harvard, and yes we studied together but she didn't approach me for the reason you'd expect" he paused for a second before continuing. "she- she met your biological father first, I don't know where, I should know he was my cousin, but i'm not familiar with his world."

"His world?" Annabeth questioned.

Mrs. Chase walked in with a tray of cookies and three glasses of water, Annabeth shot her a nasty look while Percy gave her one of sympathy. Frederick didn't even look at his wife.

"Did she know?" Annabeth asked bitterly, Frederick didn't respond and Annabeth's stepmother looked away after setting the tray down.

Annabeth's scowled deepened and Mrs. Chase scrambled out of the room.

"Annabeth, I had to tell her, she's my wife." he said finally making eye contact.

"And i'm the next door neighbor aren't I?"

Frederick shifted his gaze to Percy as in to ask for help but the boy simply averted any eye contact whatsoever

"Fine, i'll tell you everything I know, but I don't know much."

"Isn't her biological father your cousin, how do you not know much?" Percy asked finally chiming in.

"Just listen" Frederick snaped.

"Please" Annabeth said while closing her eyes, "don't snap at him, he hasn't done anything wrong".

Mr. Chase shot Percy an apologetic look and Percy smiled sheepishly in return.

"Well, you were about to tell me everything, right?" Annabeth said opening her eyes to glare at the man.

"Ah, yes" Mr.Chase said as he took a sip of water, he set the glass down and looked Annabeth dead in the eye.

"My Father had an younger sister named Hope, Hope Lupin, nee Chase."
