The Dursleys are angry that fem!Harry* is left with them. Dumbledore mentions in his letter that he wants fem!Harry to grow up humble (abused) so that her fame won't go to her head and she'll be willing to "fulfill her duty". As revenge instead of going along with the letter, they decide to do the exact opposite. They raise her to be spoiled rotten, especially after they receive payments from Dumbledore. Petunia also raises her to have the mindset that the ultimate goal in life is to marry the richest man she can and be a good wife so that he doesn't leave her. At first, they are just doing it for revenge but they grow to care for fem!Harry.
