“Look Siri there I am! Why is my star small and yours bigger. That’s not fair.” A young Regulus said with sleep lacing his voice as he laid his head on his brother's shoulder. Sirius smiled looking at his baby, his baby brother fighting his sleep.
“Shh Reggie, you have been quiet. You know what will happen if Mother and Father hear us.” He said, trying to hide his fear. “Or worse, see that you are sleeping with me.” Sirius says in a harsh whisper not wanting to scare his brother, but he can’t help but feel shivers in his brother's little body. Shivering in fear of the beating they both will get if caught. “I’m sorry Reggie, I didn’t mean to scare you. It’s just I don't want to see you in any pain. I’d always protect you but please lower your voice. It's late.” Sirius says with a grim smile. “The reason my star is bigger is because I'm your big brother. You see, my job is to be your big brother here and in the sky.” He said as he covered them both up with his comforter. “That way no matter where you are, I'll always be there for you. Watching you and protecting you even if we are not together. You’ll never be alone Reggie.” Sirius said while looking at their constellations, he can't help but worry about what will happen when he goes to Hogwarts for the first time and has to be away from his brother.
While lost in thought he doesn't notice his brother squeezing closer to him. “I love you Siri, you're the best big brother ever. Please don't ever leave me. Please don't ever forget me when you go away.” Regulus says with tears coming out of his eyes. “I’ll never lea-”
“PADFOOT!!!” Sirius jolts up in a panic, quickly looks at his surroundings and realizes it was all a dream. He’s no longer that 10-year-old boy holding his brother's hand in his sleep, he's a full-grown man. It's been years since he dreamt of his brother, an even longer time since anyone has seen Regulus Black.
“Hey Love, sorry I didn’t mean to scare you. The girls are here.” Remus said, giving Sirius a look over. He knew Sirius always had a hard time around this year. It’s coming close to the anniversary of Regulus and his mate’s disappearance. Sirius still to this day thinks his parents did something to him, but no proof was ever found.
“I’m ok Moony. I.. It was just a dream, well more like a memory of Reggie.” He said trying to smile to show he’s okay for his boyfriend but knows it is not working. “You know it’s weird maybe because his anniversary is coming up or because we're staying in our old house but.. never mind.” Sirius said while walking down the stairs, his shoulders pushed back and held him up high. He may have left his aristocratic life but the years of etiquette are still very much present. A Black must always stand tall and true. No showing of pain and weakness is ever allowed. Remus knows that this house has horrible memories so he can’t fathom why Sirius would want to move back. When he asked, all he could say was “Here is where I can still hear Reggie’s voice. It overpowers the screams. Plus, it's like a big slap in my mother's face to know her beloved son is living here with his blood-traitor friend and werewolf boyfriend. That bitch is probably rolling in her grave or at least screaming in hell.” Remus shakes his head as if to shake his thoughts away as he walks behind Sirius.
James turns his head as he hears the floor creak from his best friend's footsteps. He can feel the guilt radiating in waves off Padfoot. He knows how guilty he feels and how he blames himself for leaving his brother here in this house, but he was a child. As that thought rolls into his head, he can't help but feel his heart clench as he thinks about his own guilt. The guilt of breaking the heart of someone he truly loved and the other for lying to his best friend about their affair. The guilt of not coming clean about his inner turmoil and sexuality sooner. But most of all guilty for still loving Regulus and dating Lily after their break up. Sure they broke up shortly after they started dating but it wouldn’t be until a full year later that he admits to his friends and family that he was bisexual and leaned more into dating men.
“You ok Padfoot?” Peter asked.
“Yeah, wormy I'm ok let’s go gossip with the girls” Sirius tried to smile but came out more of a grimace. They make their way into the kitchen to join the girls. They walk in to see Lily making tea for them as her girlfriend Mary sets the table for the lunch they brought, whereas Marlene is busy turning on the radio to notice the boys joining.
Sirius looks at his kitchen and feels his heart clench. Nothing has changed since Hogwarts, his circle of friends has all stayed together after all these years. Lily became a professor at their Alma mater and a famous muggle author. Mary becomes an Auror and joins Marlene once in a while on cases for the Ministry. Speaking of Marlene, she shocked everyone by becoming an unspeakable and curse breaker instead of staying as a Professional Quidditch player. Peter became a Healer for St. Mungo's in pediatrics. Moony became the owner of a bookstore that sold both Muggle and Wizard novels. It was called Moony & Co as Sirius, James and Peter invested in it. Sirius became the first wizard to get a bartending license and Potions mastery and opened a bar called “Howling Spirits” in honor of his Moony. And finally James became a master of Charms and created a similar version of a muggle security system but for wizards. He used the inspiration and the charms he and the others used to create The Marauders Map. After many trials and errors, he was able to create different templates for business and home including the Ministry and Wizard Prisons. After patenting the charms and selling it to companies he was proud to say he retired by age 27. Sirius was proud of how much they have all accomplished, but he couldn’t help but mourn the loss of his brother. His brother should be here joining in for brunch and being a part of this average life. Would his brother be a writer, would he have been a potions master to like him? All these questions will always remain unanswered.
“Hey, I've heard that name before. Severus said he manages them” Lily said, snapping Sirius out of his inner thoughts.
“What did you say Lil?” Marlene said as she stuffed her face with her spinach and tomato quiche.
“Since when do you keep in contact with him Red” Sirius says while putting a croissant on his plate. James and Peter stop their conversation and turn towards Lily.
“I've kept in contact with him since graduation. That band they mentioned he signed them, and they seem to be pretty big in America. They are called Something Heirs. Honestly I don’t remember the name” Lily said while smacking Mary's fingers away from trying to steal a strawberry off her plate.
“Oh, dear old Sinvellus became a band manager, how can he manage a band but can’t manage basic hygiene” James said while rolling his eyes. James can’t help but still resent Severus for being hurtful and obsessive with Lily when they were in school. Call it petty or immature but he hated that Lily was his friend even after that. To make it worse he hated that Regulus at one time was close to Severus even if it was due to school projects.
“So, what did he say he can get you tickets to see them or what? Please tell me he wasn't just bragging to try and get a date with you?” Marlene said while stealing a piece of bacon from Peter’s plate. Remus was too consumed with his book to really pay attention.
“Actually he said he would, turns out that they're coming back to Hogwarts for their last show of the Tour. He said they were technically a local band but moved to the west to build a fan base.” Lily replied.
A concert, who doesn’t like a concert plus a free one. Now that piqued Remus’s interest. “I for one would love to go. Plus it's free and at the expense of Snape.” Remus said while eating the last Chocolate Croissant.
“Moony goes I go” Sirius said while kissing Remus Cheek causing the wolf to blush. “Padfoot goes I go , wormy you in?” James asked looking at Peter who was having a fight with Marlene over his lost bacon. “Yea I’m in.” Peter says as Marlene takes the chance to steal more bacon.
“See Flor, we're all going, now stop talking about Snape and let's eat, before I start to get jealous.” Mary says her Dominican accent is a bit more prominent while kissing Lily's lips.
“By the way what kind of music do they play anyways” asked Peter.
Lily smirks while looking at Sirius. “Progressive Metal/Rock”
“NO!!!!” Sirius screams knowing he hated whiney music, music that wasn’t Bowie or Queen influenced was not worth listening to in his eyes. Remus couldn’t help but laugh at his beloved’s antics, yes, this concert was going to be fun.
