Hallucinations and Exaltations
Time passed them by, and soon enough the clock struck 2.
By that point, the kids decided that it would be as good a time as ever to dig into their stash.
The girls sat at a nearby table and began nibbling on their weed brownies while the boys lay back on the carpet to better let the effects of the drugs wash over them.
Contrary to popular belief, drug consumption is not like how it is portrayed in the movies or on TV. Especially in regards to marijuana.
When you take weed you feel more relaxed, zen. A little giggly even. And you don’t even trip out that much, most of it is just sensory stuff.
<Now playing ‘Hey There, Delilah’ by Plain White T’s>
Mercury turned his head and saw Luna rocking in her chair and giggling like a loon, Gary was mumbling something Mercury couldn’t make out while Alice stared at her gloved hands in fascination.
Mercury: Hey there, Delilah
What's it like in New York City?
I'm a thousand miles away
But, girl, tonight you look so pretty
Yes, you do.
At the corner of his eye, Mercury saw Aria absentmindedly chewing on what was left of her brownie, pretty blue eyes blinking slowly.
Mercury: Time Square can't shine as bright as you.
I swear, it's true.
Jack lay on his back, arms and legs splayed out like a starfish as he stared up at the swirling ceiling in awe.
Jack: Hey there, Delilah
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes.
Listen to my voice
It's my disguise.
I'm by your side.
Yuffie began smiling as she fiddled with the ends of Yaoyorozu’s spiky ponytail, twirling and running her fingers through smooth black locks.
All: Oh, it's what you do to me.
Aria smiled and leaned her head against Alice’s shoulder, shoulders going slack as she leaned against the older girl.
All: Oh, it's what you do to me
Oh, it's what you do to me
Oh, it's what you do to me
What you do to me.
Flash smiled like a dope as he stared over at a giggling Luna.
Flash: Hey there, Delilah
I know times are gettin' hard
But just believe me, girl
Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar
We'll have it good.
We'll have the life we knew we would–my word is good.
Gary reached his hand up and saw his fingers and arm distort and move in slow motion.
Gary: Hey there, Delilah
I've got so much left to say.
If every simple song I wrote to you
Would take your breath away
I'd write it all.
Colors began to blend and swirl in his palms as Gary stared wide eyed.
Gary: Even more in love with me you'd fall.
We'd have it all.
Alice smiled down at Aria and patted her head.
All: Oh, it's what you do to me.
Oh, it's what you do to me.
Oh, it's what you do to me.
Oh, it's what you do to me.
Mercury turned onto his stomach and tucked his folded hands under his chin; he stared at the girls, legs swinging idly as the world began to move in slow-motion.
Mercury: A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they've got planes, and trains, and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way.
Flash felt the carpet grow softer, and melt like wax. The athlete closed his eyes and let himself be carried away by the softness.
Flash: Our friends would all make fun of us
And, we'll just laugh along because
We know that none of them have ever felt this way.
Jack stared up at the galaxies growing on the ceiling in fascination.
Jack: Delilah, I can promise you
That by the time we get through
The world will never ever be the same!
And, you're to blame.
Gary felt everything grow fuzzy and let himself be embraced by the warmth.
Gary: Hey there, Delilah
You be good and don't you miss me
Two more years and you'll be done with school
And I'll be makin' history like I do.
Turning his head, Gary stared up at the slowly ticking clock on the wall.
Gary: You'll know it's all because of you
We can do whatever we want to.
Mercury smiled, body going lax as he closed his eyes.
Mercury: Hey there, Delilah
Here's to you.
This one's for you.
The nine detentionees sat back and took in the peaceful atmosphere surrounding them.
All: Oh, it's what you do to me.
Oh, it's what you do to me.
It was soothing.
All: Oh, it's what you do to me.
Oh, it's what you do to me.
Everything was peaceful and nothing hurt.
All: What you do to me.
Oh, whoa, whoa.
The world was calm.
The world was good.
And if the world they knew only stayed within the confines of the Sunnydale High School Library’s walls for this one weird day, then, what did they care?
All: Oh whoa, oh.
Oh, oh…
