Bite night

Remus tossed and turned in his bed. An ominous feeling enveloped his dreary room. Strangely, a loud sound echoed nearby that Remus could not identify. His grey curtains twitched anxiously: it was as though even inanimate objects were afraid. Curiously, his empty room was rigid in fear; a severe stillness; a daze that bewitched the room entirely. His room seemed lifeless and scary, and the poor 7 year old was clueless and frightened, not daring to move. Remus remained sat bolt-upright in fear, cowering under his bed-cover. Plucking up the courage to act, he gripped the blanket as his only protection, and slowly crept to his father's room.

---

Simultaneously, Lyall Lupin laid in his bed, beside Hope. Hearing the soft cadence of footsteps, he emerged from the room to spot a petrified Remus, wrapped in blankets, stood before his door.

"Dad!?" Remus started, frightened and worried.

"What's up, bwt?" Lyall questioned, confused.

"I'm really scared. I heard a noise outside, and I've just got a really bad feeling, I don't know what's going on, dad, I'm so scared." He trembled and shivered.

"Come on, bwt, let's go back to your room."

"Are you sure?" Remus whispered.

"Yes Remus. Nothing's going to hurt you when I'm here, OK?"

"OK Dad," Remus calmed down a little.

CRASH!

Suddenly, the noise of glass shattering awoke the entire house from their slumbers. Remus and Lyall, upon entering Remus' room, froze in astoundment. And now it seemed that Remus was not imagining things, as a deafening howl reverberated across the neighbourhood. It was a howl of war; a howl of beginnings; the howl that was the beginning of the end. Remus' damascene, and Lyall's, too. For in this universe, nothing went quite as planned on the night of horror.
