James Potter had pitied him ever since he first saw him entering the train to Hogwarts. With his greasy, black hair, and a bloodied face that had attracted almost everyones attention. He pitied how his voice had a slight accent, one of a foreigner’s. His tattered clothing draping over his skinny body, with obvious holes in them. Yes, James pitied Severus Snape.
But his jaw dropped when he saw the girl he was sitting with in the train compartment. Red, fiery hair that shined in sunlight, and a face adorned with brown freckles. James went into a train compartment with a boy with black hair, except it wasn’t greasy like Snape’s.
“I’m Sirius,” The boy said, holding out his hand in a formal greeting. “Sirius Black.” Sirius stated, and James gently shook his hand. “I’m James Potter,” He introduced himself. “What house do you think you’ll be in?” He asked, and Sirius thought for a moment, and then proudly stated; “I want to be in Gryffindor!”
“Me too!” James giggled, his high-pitched voice still hadn’t deepened. “Can we sit here?” A boy, with brown, curly hair asked, there was another boy was hiding shyly behind him.James happily nodded, and shuffled to the window. “My name is Remus.” He introduced, and the other boy shook Sirius’ hand “And I’m Peter, what are your names?” Peter asked, and James and Sirius took turns saying their names.
“I hope I get in Gryffindor,” Remus huffed, brows furrowing in irritation. “Everyone always says I would go to Ravenclaw, but I don’t want to go to Ravenclaw!” Remus sunk into the train seat, and Sirius nodded in agreement. “My parents say I have to go to Slytherin,” He stated, rolling his eyes. “I don’t want to be a slimy snake!”
“Me either, I heard that all the evil wizards go to Slytherin.” Peter gossiped, brushing a dirty-blond lock of hair behind his ear. “I heard He Who Shall Not Be Named went to Slytherin!” James said, he had heard one of the neighborhood girls say that. They were always prone to gossip about stupid topics.
“Merlin really!?” Sirius exclaimed, James nodded. “That boy, with the greasy hair,” Sirius whispered, James nodded. “I went to his compartment first, and he said he really wanted to be in Slytherin.” James’ jaw dropped. “Horrible! Why would anyone want to be in Slytherin!?” Peter said, with Remus nodding in agreement.
“Anything from the trolley?” The trolley lady asked, and James held up some money. “Four chocolate frogs, please.” The trolley lady accepted the money, and grabbed the sweets. “Here ya go.” She handed the frogs, and James handed them our to his newly found friends. “I got Dumbledore! I got Dumbledore!” Peter excitedly exclaimed, holding up the card for everyone to see.
“Lucky! I got Rowena Ravenclaw.” James said, Rowena Ravenclaw was fine, but Dumbledore was the most powerful wizard ever! “Apparently,” Peter started, drawing everybody’s attention. “Helena Ravenclaw haunts inside of Hogwarts!” Peter said, getting a few Ooh’s and Aah’s.
“I’m so excited,” James felt giddy, he couldn’t imagine he was finally going to Hogwarts! “I can’t wait!” He said, with Peter nodding in agreement, his dirty-blond curls shaking. “What do you think your favorite subject will be?” Sirius asked “I think mine will be Charms.” Sirius answered his own question, leaving James a few seconds to think.
“I think mine will be Defense Against The Dark Arts, though I am scared for boggarts.” He answered, Remus thought. “I think I’ll like Transfiguration.” Remus answered, tucking his brown sweater into his pants. “I’m not sure what my favorite is, but I’m so bad at Potions!” Peter complained.
“Have you already made some?” Sirius asked, shuffling a bit closer to Peter. “Yeah, healing balm,” Peter answered, settling his hands on his cheeks, and his elbows on his knees. “It exploded in my face! I think theres still dust in my ears.” James giggled, was Peter seriously that bad at Potions?
Suddenly, a loud ringing noise filled their ears. They had arrived. “We’re here! We’re here!” Peter yelled, smiling from ear to ear. James grabbed his suitcase, pulling down Remus’ with it. “Whoops, sorry Remus.” James gently picked the suitcase back up from the ground. “It’s fine, its old anyway.”
James, Peter, Remus, and Sirius walked inside the fantastical castle with the name of Hogwarts. Along with the other first years, of course. James caught a glimpse of the red haired, freckled girl. And the greasy git that was standing beside her. He had band-aids on a few parts of his face by now.
“Hello, new students of Hogwarts,” A woman with grey hair, tied neatly into a bun confidently said to the large group infront of her. “I am Professor McGonagall, Transfiguration.” McGonagall introduced herself, James was mesmerized to be in presence of such a great person.
”Over there is the Main Hall, where you shall be sorted inside of your respective houses.” She said, and opened the gigantic doors to the Main Hall. There were four tables, and a wooden chair. And then James saw his idol. Albus Dumbledore. James had to contain himself from asking for an autograph from his own Headmaster.
“Hello, to the new, and old students of Hogwarts!” The Headmaster said, holding a scroll of paper. “We welcome you, and the sorting of the first years, shall now begin.” Dumbledore smiled faintly, handing the scroll over to McGonagall. “Greenhart, June.” McGonagall said, and a small, brown haired girl walked toward the chair. She sat down, and a hat was promptly placed on her head. “You seem like the type for…..” The hat said.
”Hufflepuff!” A roar of clapping emerged from the second table, and the girl happily sat down. “Evans, Lily.” And the girl with red hair, and freckles from the train emerged from the crowd. So her name was Lily, beautiful name for a beautiful girl. She sat down, and the hat thought for a moment. “Gryffindor!”
God, James hoped he was gonna get in Gryffindor. “Snape, Severus.”
