Chapter 6
Remus stared at the ship that sat in the port of Hogsmeade.
Remus thought about heading around the pubs looking for the Captain, but decided his best chance was to go straight for the ship.
Ever since Cassie’s disappearance he had been looking for any information he could find.
Tonight would give him the answers he’d been searching for now for over a year.
He made his way to the ship, through the town where most people were spending their evening inside the pubs before spilling out of them in the early morning.
The Fat Lady had been mostly abandoned it seemed, with only a couple of people scattered around the board, presumably to keep watch over it.
When Remus stepped onto the ship from the dock, one of the people stood up and moved towards him, hand resting on the sword at their side.
“What do you want,”They asked.
“I want to speak with Captain Potter,”Remus said, “He knows something about someone I care about deeply.”
“I know a lot of people, mate,”A voice from behind him says, “You’re going to have to be more specific.”
Remus turns to find a man with dark curls, tanned skins, and glasses standing there with his arms crossed.
“You’re Captain Potter,”Remus asked.
“The one and only,”He said, “So, who is it that you think I know something about?”
“Cassiopeia Black,”Remus said, “She disappeared the same day that you were in port.”
“Coincidence mate, never met the Black’s daughter,”The Captain answered.
“Your brother had her ring,”Remus said, unsheathing his sword, “Maybe I need to talk to him then.”
Captain Potter pulled out his own sword, and gestured to the other crew that were on board to stay back.
“This is your last chance to walk away,”The Captain said.
“This is your last chance to tell me where she is,”Remus replied.
Silence.
“Fine then,”Remus said, launching forward.
It was clear that the Captain was well skilled, but Remus had been training with a sword since he could walk.
“It seems awfully suspicious to me that your brother shows up a month before she disappears and you have avoided Schlange ever since,”Remus said, “My only question is why not ask for a reward for her return.”
“You don’t know the whole story,”He responded, sword barely missing Remus.
“Then tell me,”Remus said, “Is she alive?”
The Captain just grunted, blocking Remus’ attack, and grazing Remus’s side.
“I don’t want to hurt you,”The Captain said.
“Funny, because I want to hurt you for whatever you’ve done to her,”Remus replied, blade slicing the Captain’s shoulder.
The fight continued, each of them landing small cuts that didn’t stop them.
“You’re good with a sword for a rich pretty boy,”The Captain said.
“And your reputation precedes you,”Remus said.
James swung at Remus’ leg and missed right before Remus’ sword was to his throat.
“Drop your sword,”Remus said, hand steady and blade still.
Remus could hear the sound of more crew arriving on the main deck of the ship.
“If any of you try anything, your Captain dies,”Remus said.
Captain Potter slowly dropped his sword.
“You won’t get anywhere by killing me,”He said.
“Your brother; where is he,”Remus asked, “If you won’t give me answers, he will.”
“Captain, Padfoot is still out with Evans and McKinnon.”
“Then we’ll wait for them to come back,”Remus said, “With your Captain staying right where I can see him.”
“You’re Remus Lupin,”The Captain said, “Aren’t you?”
“Lord Remus Lupin,”Remus answered, “Does that change your willingness to answer my questions?”
“No,”He replied, “Just don’t be angry when you get answers you didn’t expect.”
“If you or your brother hurt her, then you will pay,”Remus said, “I will personally see to it.”
“Remus.”
Remus turned to look at the voice that had called out his name.
He found a man, black hair pulled back into a small bun, stubble across his face, but the same blue gray eyes he remembered.
Remus’ sword fell to his side as he said, “It’s you.”
Then, he felt a shot of pain across his face, and everything went black.
