panic attack
Blaise felt a pit forming in his gut, he didn’t know why. He didn’t want to doubt Dazai’s plans but he had seen first hand how destructive the boy could be when under pressure. Neither him nor the twins had seen him since the night before when they set up the plan. Dazai had continued lying by omission, never telling anyone what he truly had planned for the next day. Blaise had found that odd, but it was also very on brand for Dazai. He never told anyone anything.
He heard a commotion coming from the infirmary and thought nothing of it. That was until he remembered that Dazai had told them specifically to make sure that there was no one in the infirmary. He needed to do something in the infirmary, but what? Blaise couldn’t help but fear the worst. He began his trek to the room of requirement where they all decided to meet afterwards.
“Hey Blaise! Where’s snakey?” Fred asked. Blaise hadn’t realized he had arrived, but here he was
“Huh, oh, no, I have no idea where he is.” Blaise muttered out, feeling most of the gang's eyes on him “Can’t you find him on that map of yours?” Blaise saw the twins share a look and visibly deflate at that.
“Um, well-” George started while Fred motioned for the rest of the gang to gather around them. “I think it’s best if i just show you.”
Fred pulled out the Marauders map, whispered the code and held it out for all to see. George pointed to a spot in the infirmary. When Blaise’s eyes drifted to where they were directed he saw three names P. Pomfrey, S. Snape, and one last name, that, oddly, looked very different from the others. This name was flickering, like a dying flame and seemed translucent, O. Dazai.
“We were trying to look for him after Madam Pomfrey started heading back and we saw this. We’ve never seen anything like it. It looks similar to the petrification victims, but that flickering is completely new.” George stated
While the rest of the gang muttered amongst themselves Blaise turned and left, making sure to close the door softly, as to make no sound, and bolted down the hallways, toward the infirmary. He skidded to a halt at the door and opened it as quickly as he could. In front of him was Professor Snape, pacing back and forth, and Madam Pomfrey, frantically searching her desk for something.
“What happened to Osamu?” Blaise blurted out, alerting the other two to his presence.
“Um, well Dazai somehow managed to kill the Basilisk, but he also became petrified in the process.” Pomfrey said, still rummaging around in her desk drawers. “The potion should be done in three weeks, everything will be fine.” She said, more to reassure herself than the boy standing infront of her
Potion? Right! The only cure for petrification is a potion. Would it even work on Dazai? He has that power that stopped the potions from the trials from working on him. What if Dazai is never unpetrified? Blaise couldn’t handle that. He slowly backed out of the room, closing the door behind him. It was past curfew, everyone was already in their dorms. Blaise collapsed onto the floor. His ears were ringing. His heart was racing. He couldn’t breathe. His lungs were being crushed. His thoughts were racing so fast he couldn’t hold on to any of them. He felt a hand on his shoulder and flinched away from it harshly. It was Dazai’s friend, Rei.
“Woah, kid. Are you ok? What’s wrong?” She asked despite the obvious fact that he wasn’t.
Blaise tried to explain the situation despite the fact that he was hyperventilating. Once he had gotten the entire thing out Rei sucked in a breath through her teeth then sat down on the ground next to him.
“Well, there are some things that I need explained about petrification first. When someone is petrified do they still have a heartbeat?” when Blaise shook his head she continued “When someone is petrified is it their entire body that is stone, or just the outside?” Blaise held up one finger, to signal that it is the entire body that’s stone, and Rei finally finished “well, then the potion will work on Dazai. As long as there is no part of Dazai that is not stone, there is no part of him that can nullify the magic, he may have a bad headache after, but that’s his problem, ok kid? Now get to sleep before Filch yells at you, or sit in the infirmary with Dazai. I promise everything will be ok, talk to me if you need anything.” Rei placed a hand on Blaise’s shoulder then stood and helped him up.
