yeouch!!!!
The time came and Madam Pomfrey pushed all of the students out because of curfew. Draco kept protesting that it was the weekend and they should be allowed to stay longer, but Madam Pomfrey stood firm and Draco surrendered and the hell’s hounds (- their newest member) went their separate ways. She stood looking between Snape, who still had not left, and Dazai, who seemed to be in an unreasonable amount of pain. It seemed like Snape had wanted to talk to Dazai.
“Give me a second severus. I need to speak to Mr. Dazai” Madam Pomfrey said before turning to her patient. “Are you ok love? You seem uncomfortable.”
“Um… Well I think I have fully regained feeling in my legs. Small problem, it feels like there are needles stabbing into my muscles.” At this Dazai threw his legs over the side of the bed, (much to Madam Pomfrey’s shock and displeasure) slowly slid himself off the bed, then stood and took a few steps wincing the entire time. He slowly and painfully walked over to Poppy and Severus. “Pressure makes it worse. Much worse.” At this he limped back to the bed and sat on the end of the bed.
“I suspected something like this would happen. Dazai, I cannot diagnose this yet, but I suspect you may have developed Fibromyalgia. When your spine was fractured by the bullet, your lumbar nerves, the nerves that control your legs, were damaged. Your nervous system is now sending false signals that may cause soreness, stabbing pain, and fatigue. If this persists for 3 months, then we can diagnose this as fibromyalgia without a doubt. Madam Pomfrey said reluctantly “Some days may be worse than others so I suggest you take both your wheelchair, and a cane. It may help with the pain sometimes.” Madam Pomfrey grabbed a cane and adjusted it to dazai’s height then handed it to him. “If that is all then I will leave. She said, nodded to Snape then left.
Snape walked over and sat on the bed next to Dazai.
“I assume you want to talk about what happened sir?” Dazai asked, staring straight ahead, never making eye contact. “I’m truly sorry if I inconvenienced you.”
“Yes, that is what I would like to discuss. Please do not speak like that though, you did the right thing by coming to me. I will not say I understand because I don't, but I want to understand. I will not force you to tell me anymore than what you’re comfortable with. I could take away everything sharp and have someone watch you at all times, but I won't. I do not understand how you feel but I know that stealing darkness won’t show you the light. If anything it will make you see the light as dark too. All I'm asking is that if you do hurt yourself, you find someone who will help you. It doesn’t have to be me or Poppy, it just has to be someone who would help. I truly want you to get better but the only bar I'm setting right now is that you stay alive. You are so important to so many people and if you never existed this world would be very different. You are a good person.” Snape muttered, staring at the floor. He lifted a hand and hovered it over Dazai’s shoulder. At the lack of Dazai tensing up or a flinch he lowered his hand.
The two of them sat like this till Snape heard a soft snore coming from next to him. He let out a small chuckle and laid Dazai down on the bed and laid a blanket over him.
--------------
When Snape got back to his office he was greeted by the headmaster and an odd looking girl with long brown hair tied back in a ponytail, one strand having fallen out on each side. She was wearing a black skirt that went down to her knees and an orange shirt that read ‘ I really don't want to be here…’ her entire outfit was tied together by a bomber jacket that had red orange and yellow vines embroidered on the cuffs of the sleeves, reaching up the arms.
Snape looked to the headmaster for an explanation
“Ah, Severus, there you are” At this the girl snapped to attention and gave Snape a short bow. “This is Rei Asami, she has been sent from DOE, the department of education, to be your assistant.” Dumbledore provided. “She cannot cast but is very intelligent and talented. I expect you to give her a warm welcome.” At this dumbledore nodded then turned and left.
Really? They had given him a muggle as an assistant? She would be nothing but a burden. Snape scoffed and shoved her out of the way before walking into his office. He had stuff to do, and no time to deal with this. The muggle followed behind him. He sat in his chair and she positioned herself next to his desk. She tried multiple times to start a conversation but was cut off each time by snape tapping his fingers on the desk, or clearing his throat, or doing anything but listening
---------------
It was the 5th time that Rei had tried to start talking and had been cut off. She was tired of it. She walked around the desk to where she was directly in front of the potions professor. She sighed sharply and threw her fists onto the desk as hard as she could, messing up whatever it was he was writing.
“Listen, I get it. I'm a muggle, or whatever you call it, invading your precious ‘wizard only space’' she began, putting exaggerated air quotes on that last phrase. “ But I don't want to be here anymore than you want me to. I was put here purely because I knew too much and they needed something to do with me.” she lied perfectly like how she had been taught “So, what’s your name and do you have something for me to do or can I just go back to my room?”
--------------
Snape was shocked to say the least, no one had ever talked to him like this. She only seemed to be around 18 and most people under 30 were terrified of him. He could only think of one student who never seemed to be afraid of him and that was Dazai. Now that he thought of it, this Rei girl and Dazai were very similar. He could imagine Dazai saying the exact same thing she did and vice versa. How little had this girl been told, she didn’t even know his name, Snape almost felt bad. Being forced into a job she didn't want and being told nothing.
“Severus Snape. Call me Snape. Uhm, here these are some tests and this is the answer sheet. Grade them.” Snape stammered out pathetically before handing her a stack of papers
“Thank you.” Rei said. A hint of venom slipping through her words. She took the papers, went to a seat in the very back of the class, put on a pair of headphones and got to work. In about 15 minutes she was finished with that stack and came back up to the desk to get some more. This cycle continued till Snape was completely done catching up and had no more work
“Is there anything else you need done?” Rei asked
“No, you’re free to go. Here, this is your schedule” Snape handed Rei the piece of paper.
The potions professor watched as Rei packed up and left.
She wasn’t that bad for a muggle
