Chapter 13
Chapter 12
Loneliness, Plans and Family (Part 2)
It would be the end of his first year in the Gap before Harry/Lomion sought out affection closer to home. His visits to the other brothers were usually done on his off days or the nights prior. The visits had certainly turned more pleasant after the initial. One regret though was he was yet to visit Thargelion and the Plains of Estolad where Caranthir and the twins ruled. On some work eves he would spend his time with Erestor learning about Noldor culture. He certainly made his confusion on jewelry known to Erestor since it was just very complicated. Though Erestor truly was a great teacher and very patient when he explained that his parents never had a chance to teach him and neither did his minders, well he told them it was more so they didn't bother since they presumed he knew (...yikes😬). It felt so nice to finally get an understanding of where Idril got such a ridiculous idea to why she thought he was infatuated with her, but at the same time he couldn't help but think she was quite....well thick(she is😓) for coming to such a conclusion without even speaking to him. Then again he didn't have his memories then, and at the time only possessed the mentality of an innocent child that was ignorant of things and scared for his life.
He had no doubt though that even if he had known and attempted to correct the misunderstanding. She probably wouldn't have listened. Just like how Seames Finnigan the pyro extraordinaire didn't believe him about the truth behind Cedric's death until much later into his fifth year.
No, it was so much better he left.
His powers back were certainly a boon, and certainly none of those elves could ever truly threaten him now.
Hello Levitating?....But still stigmatisms and xenophobic tendencies can be such a dangerous thing when not dealt with carefully.
On a positive note though, his regulated work schedule certainly made time for keeping his promises to keep the orcs from getting any more elves. Aside from the defenses he was setting up he took to mounting his Nimbus 2000 and circling the paths the led out of Angband and the mountains of Thangorodrim at least once every two months (😅yes you heard that right). During his months of scouting prior to obtaining the Silmarils Harry/Lomion took to finding all the caves, paths, and secret ways that led the orcs out of their conspicuous fortress. Though the purpose of this knowledge was not as obvious as most might think. Harry/Lomion did not use this information to vaporize the orcs. No, that would be too conspicuous and no amount of obliviate or memory alteration spells was going to keep someone's attention off such an event happening so many number of times.
Aside from Beren and Luthien needing to steal "something" from Morgoth's crown there also needed to be something to keep Morgoth's attention off something being missing. His memory may have been erased and altered but he can't keep them from noticing something completely obvious. The prisoners absence was easy since he just made them all think they escaped a long time ago during a reasonable event. At the time he was also able to sneak in an altered "notice-me-not" into the obliviate. The spell was basically designed to make Morgoth and the residents of Angband not really care that there were no prisoners. It certainly wouldn't affect their plans too much as they were already steadily gearing up for the Bragollach.
Another fact he had confirmed in his bi-monthly scouting's of Angband. (....Poor Maglor🫢).
But aside from that he used his trips to incorporate "Imperio" based wards into the boundaries that stated one command "take no prisoners."
It was much easier to deal with outright murderous orcs than to worry about someone getting captured. However, the wards would only hold until the Bragollach was over mostly because by that point Harry/Lomion would be too busy to focus on keeping them constantly up. In addition once Dorthonion was breached there would be too many orcs to manipulate and them constantly thinking about "not taking prisoners" would set off continuous alarm bells on Morgoth's side. He would certainly try to mitigate the number of prisoners as much as he could such as for poor Hurin but information leaks for Gondolin were inevitable. Before they captured the original Maeglin from the book, Morgoth's forces were already circling the mountains where the city was located. No, that nightmare simply either sped it up or made the devastation more dramatic for dear old Tolkien....ugh.
Well whatever, as long as the pertinent events of the original timeline stayed the same it was still a win.
Absolute worst case, which he doubted would happen, he'd just Avada Kedavra that skulking dementor or knock him out and thrown him through that Door of Night himself after a quick Bombarda to the door.
In any case he was certainly busy and he took notice of how Maglor would sometimes give him looks whenever he appeared tired or quiet (from mostly planning). Sometimes he was worried Maglor was smelling the ash from Angband on him. Bloody hell that place stank of sulfur, luckily he didn't seem to notice or just thought it was the smell of the forge (....poor Maglor😅). He certainly liked Maglor quite a bit. The reason he didn't approach for so long as a falcon was because he was working on his gift. It took quite a bit of work, in the comfort of his tent, to create the gift but he had finally finished. Now, it was simply finding the right time to change into a bird when no one would notice. It was on one night in late spring of his second year in the Gap that he snuck into Maglor's office before the evening meal ended and changed into an unsuspecting Saker Falcon. He made sure to open the window to make sure everyone thought he flew in or just unlocked the latch. He had the pouch with the Gryffindor sigil and the letter placed on his desk. He waited for maybe a few minutes before his cousin entered and he let out a small "chirp."
His cousin certainly looked surprised to see him and looked almost...nervous?
But then his face quickly turned into a kind smile as he held out his arm.
"Well hello little bird, what brings you here? I heard you visited with gifts for my brothers. Tell me I don't suppose it's my turn now" he said in a humorous voice as Harry/Lomion hopped from his perch on the desk to his cousin's waiting arm.
He chirped in reply and climbed his way to his cousin's shoulder where he started nuzzling himself against his head. Ahhh it felt so nice to finally get some more affection from the cousin he'd been closest to. It relieved the small ache in his fëa almost instantly. Maglor seemed to like what he was doing as he let out a very soft laugh and started patting his head in an affectionate way.
"You are a very sweet child despite being such a strong falcon. I just wish I could thank your master in person, but come now let's see what they have to say" his cousin said as he went to sit at his desk and open the note.
Dear Kanafinwë Makalaurë,
I hope this letter finds you well and that you are in good health. I'm sure you've heard from your brothers by now that I've been providing supplies to each of their territories. The pouch my little friend brought does indeed contain the100 bottle each stock of the healing potions that were used to treat your brother and the former prisoners. As I have informed your brothers, please do not open the pouch until you are safely in the healing halls. I doubt you want your office to be flooded with 400 bottles of healing potions. The bottles are indeed spelled against breaking but I also took note that Curufin seemed to be agitated from my choice of anti-theft measures. So I have altered the anti-theft magic to something more reasonable.
For one moment when Maglor read this he seemed to breathe a sigh of relief before continuing.
So rather than their hands exploding I have enchanted the bottles to seemingly come to life and bite the thief's hands clean off. I find it more reasonable and believable that one's hands can disappear as a result of being bitten rather than blown off. It appears it happens more frequently then you think in this age, especially when dealing with wolves. Also, a clean bite would certainly be less painful than their fingers going all over the place. It would certainly make re-growing their bones easier once given the medicine should they repent.
Maglor hiccupped and his jaw dropped when he read that sentence. He took a quick glance at the pouch as though afraid it were going to bite him. For a moment his hands started shaking and he had to take a deep breathe before continuing.
I also wanted to apologize for not being able to show myself to you when you were searching the mountains for me. My friend informed me that you seemed most concerned for my safety and I want to thank you for your concern. I am so sorry but I will have to stay hidden for now as there is much I still need to get done. As an apology and thank you for the kindness you've shown my friend I have also made you a gift. Inside the pouch you will find an arm band that can be hidden under armor. It is enchanted to amplify the strength of your voice to any you deem an enemy. Please know that while this item is meant to be used against the forces of evil, it could also cause some damage to those around you if you are not careful. Tales say your voice has the strength to blow an orcs head off. Imagine taking that and doubling it to where a hole is left where a large group stood. Instructions of the administration and usage of the band and medicines are located in the pouch. Please try to practice using this item alone for the time being as I have foreseen it will be most useful in the future.
On a lighter note I hope you can host my friend when he comes to visit. It seems he has been a bit lonely lately.
I thank you again for your kindness and hope this serves you well.
P.S. This item is sadly spelled to indeed make a thief's hands explode as well as the stick, tongs, and animal they use to try and steal it. I'm afraid I didn't have time to apply the same enchantment as the medicines. So don't be surprised if it happens, it is indeed supposed to.
Stay safe.
Sincerely,
A friend of the 8 pointed star and your family.
His eyes were wide as he read the last part then he looked at the falcon.
"Must they be so dramatic? Could they not just make the bottles disappear?" he said in a voice that really said "Now, I just question their sanity."
What would be the fun in that? Then they'd just keep trying.
Maglor sighed and his face looked tired pained, and emotional all at once. He then turned to the Saker Falcon on his shoulder with truly kind eyes.
"I am grateful for all the work and effort they do but why must they insist on being alone. The gift is most kind and very thoughtful, well except for the exploding and biting. One of these days I'll have to find out where these ideas come from. Nevertheless I am truly touched at their sincerity, but they need not do this at the risk of themselves" he said in a tone that was almost pleading.
"They are family and I worry for them endlessly. Such weight and responsibility should never be endured by one individual person. If you were thy master I would plead with you to stop and let us help in some way. I would never cast them away for any reason" he said in a tone that would have had Harry/Lomion crying if he weren't a bird. Maglor's words were sending such shockwaves through his fëa that he had to fight twitching. Maglor then gently grabbed the bird from his shoulder and held him to his chest as though he were holding a puppy. This was the closest anyone had held him as a bird, it was so nice.
Oh how he wanted to change back.
"Your master said you were lonely little bird. Strong you may be in form but young in heart I see that you still need affection and I would happily give it" he said with the tone of a parent as he started patting his head again.
If only I wasn't scared of being disappointed.
I know I said I was fine but I want ........
.......more.
"Honestly I can't believe how fast your master works. It's truly to the point I worry for their health. Sigh, in any case it'll be less than a year now until my uncle and cousin come to Himring to hear the detailed news of all your master has done for us. What a show that will be, I wonder if my uncle will faint. It'd be quite interesting if your master already made an appearance in Hithlum or if they dained to cause more humorous headaches during their stay" said Maglor in a humorous and sincere tone while he patted the birds head and wings.
....so it was true what his cousins said before. His grandfather and ...uncle really were coming.
....maybe his cousin was right about making an appearance.
Well he'd think about it more after a quick nap. They always seemed to help his fëa.
That was his last thought as his bird eyes closed and drifted off to sleep.
He didn't feel Maglor pulling him closer or see the worried look on his face as he gazed at the bird he held.
Another five months passed since that day and people in the Gap were indeed starting to talk about the High King coming to visit along with the crown prince. Harry/Lomion tried not to think about it but no matter what he did he couldn't. It was like knowing there was an oversweet nectar nearby and that he just had to have a taste no matter how much he denied it. He once tried seeing how long he could go without nectar as a hummingbird seeing as the small birds needed to eat every 10-15 minutes, despite having a human mind. It was indeed proven true that he had to keep eating despite the added intelligence. It was like the universe was telling him that no matter what form he took his bodily and spiritual needs would need to always be met. Eventually he started talking less and focusing more on his work and spreading the barrier. Erestor seemed a bit worried but he told him he was fine and that he was thinking about a new project. Which wasn't a total lie seeing as he was thinking about making a trip to Barad Eithel to start building up their defense.
Prior to making contact with Maglor he had in fact been to Hithlum before but only for scouting the landscape. He was always ever on his broom and wearing his invisibility cloak when scouting or resting in his tent. He hadn't actually taken the time to speak to anyone in the area nor did he dare touch ground anywhere near the fortress where his grandfather and other uncle stayed. If he were being honest he was always scared that if he tried to see them even from a distance he'd lose the will to turn away, and he couldn't have that with all the work he had to get done. Plus, everyone knows Fingon is a prince beloved by all and while he may be his sister's son. It was his father that killed his mother while protecting him which was worse than how he lost his parents in his last life. If Fingon and Fingolfin learned this and hated him for it then his life with elves would truly be hell. It'd be like his fifth and sixth year of Hogwarts all over again but this time he wouldn't have any friends to help him through. Yes, he could erase their memories of ever meeting but it just wasn't right to use such spells against elves in general, and even less so on relatives. Hermione ALWAYS regretted erasing her parents memories because of the war. They were indeed restored after all that madness but she always felt like she broke an unspoken rule that left her with constant regret. No, regardless of the circumstances he could never do that. No matter how much it hurt him.
He once dreamed of seeing new things and meeting the uncle his mother had only ever told him stories of. Before regaining his memories he thought Turgon would be a loving uncle and Idril the only blood cousin he could connect with and look what happened. Turgon barely spoke to him of anything besides duties and work while Idril had become friends with him only to let one misunderstanding turn him into filth in her eyes.
He honestly didn't want to be called "prince" or anything of the like. He just wanted to stop losing relatives over such ridiculous things. In his first life it was due to constant war, prophecies, and murderous death eaters. He loved Sirius so much and then went and lost him only two years after finally acquiring some family. Yes, he had a family with Ginny and he loved his children so much but it's not the same as being raised and growing up with loved ones. True he had Dudley for a time after they made amends but their contact was infrequent considering they were living very different lives. Now, in this life he never even had an uncle because his stupid city was more precious to him and he severed the bond with his only direct cousin because she was an unpredictable toxic thorn that would have ruined him. He didn't regret it but he regretted what she ruined and what could have been. He would also never forget what his uncle said to him the first day they met. Whether he meant it or not, the fact that Turgon said to his father that they could choose to stay or die in the city was idiotic and downright cruel.
Throw him from the Caragdûr indeed.
Well not much of a threat now considering he could fly, float, or apparate away.
So many options against that useless threat now but not then when he was helpless.
He would never respect him again, never. He could forgive but never forget. It was honestly funny how he didn't think to sever his bond with him too but he just didn't have the time as he was in a rush to leave.
Hmmm....maybe that's why he was feeling angry whenever he thought of him lately. Seems leaving bonds untouched has that effect, while he feels nothing when Idril comes up as a passing thought. He'd certainly have to follow up and make sure Tuor made it to Gondolin on time to have Earendil. That event was happening even if he had to knock out and fly the man to Gondolin. Heck, even if he had to pretend to be Ulmo...though that probably would be awkward for many parties. Said sea demigod in question probably wouldn't appreciate it (who knows🤭).
Whatever, he'd thank him later....eventually.
He did feel bad for Glorfindel being forced to take a failed flying lesson courtesy of a Balrog but what can you do. He'd be fine, just like he was fine when he faced Voldemort.
Yeah, he'd be fine......eventually.
Sigh, he wished he could vent this to somebody but oh well. In any case he had to think of an excuse to give Maglor about being gone for a while. He'd need at least three weeks to scout the area again and get a good starting point for building the shield. Once that was done he could start apparating there in routine increments. He certainly didn't have time on a first visit to do anything to the armor, nevermind ward the castle. It was a little more risky doing that to a place that was resident to close blood relatives. While the elves here hadn't noticed him turning their home into a death house (yes, they did🤫), and despite even Maglor being a cousin (he noticed😅). It was a different story doing it with a blood relative in the vicinity. They might very well notice or pick up on something going on. It was probably best to establish a point of contact through letters first than go from there by giving them subtle hints as to what he was doing. Pfftt and Hermione said he wasn't good at planning when he worked as an auror.
It was a few days later and the middle of fall when he decided to approach Maglor for permission to leave for a bit. He walked to his office door and knocked before he heard a "come in."
He opened the door and found his cousin sitting at the desk looking over some documents when he looked up and smiled at him.
"Oh Maeglin, it's so good to see you. How are you faring?" said Maglor in a tone that was welcoming.
"Oh I'm doing well, thank you. I was just wondering if you were by chance available for a moment? I had something I wanted to perhaps speak of" said Maeglin in an inquisitive tone that sounded like "Do you have a second please?"
"Of course come in and make yourself comfortable. Now what can I do for you? Feel free to tell me if there's anything you need" he said in a very warm tone.
"Well do you remember when I asked if there were any large boulders or statues in the area?" said Maeglin in a voice that marked fond remembrance. It was so quick that he missed it but in that time Maglor had flinched at the memory.
"Ah yes, I do indeed recall. Have you by chance made a breakthrough in that?" said Maglor in a tone that sounded a little nervous but for what reason he didn't know (I wonder?🤭).
"Well yes in a way but it would seem I would need to visit the lands near Nan-Elmoth to be sure"
...maybe it wouldn't hurt to be honest about something. I don't want to totally lie to him. Plus it's not totally strange since he said he was a Sindar elf which he is but only half.
"....well the truth is I actually grew up there for a time and have some acquaintances there that might be able to help me" he said and in truth it was entirely false as he was indeed planning something that involved giant boulders....just not for Nan-Elmoth.
Maglor stopped what he was doing and looked Maeglin in the eye as though he were looking for something.
"Maeglin Nan-Elmoth is a good distance away from here. I'll never stop you from going where you want but I hope you're not thinking of going alone are you?" said Maglor in a voice that hinted worry and warriness at the already predictable answer.
Harry/Lomion looked quiet sheepish and looked away for a second from Maglor's intense gaze before answering.
"Umm well actually yes I was. But before you say no please just hear me out! I know the area quite well and know that there would be no danger on the road. I also have no intention to go near Doriath and cause trouble by using your name. It's better if I go alone since I'm known to the locals just outside Nan-Elmoth. I'll just be seeing some acquaintances in the area outside the edges of the forest that might be able to help me see what I'm missing. I'd be gone three weeks to a month at most" he said in a desperate tone that tried to show the logic behind this trip.
Maglor stared at him as though he were trying to figure something out.
"Maeglin it's not a matter of you causing me trouble but I will be blunt with you. You are only just reaching 105 now and I don't know if I could bear the guilt if something happened to you. Do not think I don't notice how you tend to neglect yourself when you get focused on a project. It's not that I don't understand the tendency. My father was the greatest smith among the Noldor and my brother his second. However, I don't think either of us will survive Máriel's rage should we have another repeat of your latest relapse" said his cousin and they both shivered at the memory of how ferocious that healer indeed was that day. Harry/Lomion still can't look her in the eye without trembling.
"Maeglin please know that it's not just me who worries. Erestor has nothing but praise for what a skilled smith you are and you have done outstanding work. But you are still young and quite frankly everyone worries for you. We've never had someone so young, and don't argue with me. Yes, child you are young by elven and even dwarven standards, you should be enjoying your youth right now. I'll never stop you from doing what you love but I will worry. You wouldn't believe how frantic everyone was when you fainted at the morning meal that day. The whole Gap almost gathered at the healing halls asking over your health. Máriel almost had to shoo them away with a spear" said Maglor in a sad voice but parental tone.
He didn't know what to say, his heart felt so touched. People were worrying about him. That hadn't happened since his parents were still alive. But he had to do this, he couldn't be deterred now.
"I understand your worry. I know I'm not the best at being patient and can be quite dumb sometimes but please it'll be just a short trip. It's better I do this alone and....it'll give me a chance to think on some things I believe I've been ignoring" he said and it wasn't a total lie as he wanted to think about what he would do once his grandfather and uncle were physically here. His mind was still a jumbled mess in the long term planning aspect but he at least had an immediate idea. He'd roll with that for now.
While lost in his thoughts he didn't notice the small frown that graced his cousins handsome face.
"Maeglin I don't want to hear you talk badly of yourself. You are not by any means 'dumb' as you so put it. You may very well be one of the most intelligent elves I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. To the point that I know even if I tried to refuse your request you'd still go and I'd be left regretting trying to hinder you. Though know that if you do not come back in those three weeks you mentioned I will be sending a search party after you. That search party will include myself and I won't stop until I find you. So, please try to not to worry this old elf and try to come back on time" his cousin said with a wink to his eye and a kind smile on his face. He then stepped towards him and kneeled at the chair and gently patted his shoulders.
"Come back safe Maeglin, alright?" his cousin said in a voice that almost sounded like he wanted to hug him.
Harry/Lomion felt overwhelmed at the physical contact and right now wanted nothing more to jump at his cousin and hug him. He could feel his fëa trying to ram right at Maglor's but he couldn't. Sweet Cersei it was like trying to hold back a hungry bear. It was making him actually twitch a bit but he couldn't because if he did than Maglor would know and the jig would be up. He'd have to explain who he was and what happened to his parents. He knew Maglor was kind but he didn't know if he'd look at him different. He wasn't even sure now if Curufin meant what he said about not caring about parents but it would probably be different if he knew what his father did. If someone asked him, he couldn't honestly say he hated his father because deep down he still loved him and would again if he came back truly changed. He wanted an apology out of him and the destruction of the jittery controlling elf he turned into later in his life. He didn't want things to change, he was finally happy and had some sense of normalcy without people thinking he was someone important. He could finally ask questions without people thinking he was stupid or should have already known. He was just an ordinary person here and he wanted to enjoy it before all hell broke loose. There would be no peace really until Morgoth got evicted. So with great pain to his heart and near tears in his eyes he reined in his fëa and looked at Maglor.
"Yes, sir. I promise" he said with a sincere but painful smile as he stood and left the room to begin packing.
What Harry/Lomion didn't see as he turned though was the look of increased worry on his cousin's face.
Both would not know that this trip would be the catalyst for the breaking of a great dam.
It was now four months before the high king was set to arrive and Harry/Lomion now had everything he needed for the trip. He had more potions ready and had written a very formal letter of introduction. Harry/Lomion knew that if his grandfather was coming it was because Maedhros was going to tell him about the doom being lifted and the Silmarills being reclaimed. Well they probably already knew the doom was gone but more so now they'd know the cause. This was too delicate of information to be told in a letter, heh his cousin is so smart. He loved every time his cousin pet him with his right hand during a visit. It felt like his work was being appreciated in the best way. Also, there was no doubt that Maedhros must have told them something about their mysterious patron and new family member. So more than likely they would be on the look out for at least a strange looking bird or...odd events.
That would certainly be in his favor for a first contact. Plus he already made the decision of who he would contact first. It would be none other than his other Uncle Fingon the Valiant.
.....what a title(😅 )
Harry/Lomion figured he'd be the best option given his apparent affinity for birds, umm eagles, and his willingness to save his cousin from Thangorodrim despite the danger and past differences. Yes, he would definitely be the best choice. Plus he doubted his fëa would act up with him as compared to his grandfather. Harry/Lomion might very well lose control of himself if the elf were to touch him but he should be fine with his uncle. It would be a good chance to see if the physical contact would soothe his fëa the same way it did with his other cousins. It might also help him decide when he would reveal himself going forward. He could hold out for a little bit longer plus his time as a bird with his cousins had significantly helped soothe the ache in his fëa. Even if there were some close calls with Maglor. Bloody hell that elf was too kind and sweet. How he wasn't married was beyond him and he would "Reducto" Mandos' doors to oblivion before he let anything bad happen to his cousin now mostly Godfather.
(In that moment Namo felt a chill go down the spine of his fana)
Harry/Lomion could admit it now. He loved his cousin as much as he loved Sirius. He hadn't felt this for a long time but he deeply cared for Maglor. He would also never regret healing Maedhros and ending their oath. They have their faults but who doesn't besides anyone capable of loving another can never be truly evil. If the Valar or anyone DARED to try and harm any member of his family on account of some misplaced sense of "justice" than he'd be the first elf to scream TIMBER as he knocked Taniquetil down like a lumberjack.
(In that moment Manwë twitched and felt the sudden need for an emergency meeting!)
Oh he was so ready for that feather brained Eönwë to say something stupid. He knew he'd show up given he'd be leading the host from Valinor. His cousins would indeed have to make amends for Alqualonde but it was going to be on fair terms as both sides were at fault for that mess. Seeing as he recently found out that the fight had actually started not just from refusing to give the boats but also because a pair of elves seemed to have gotten into a scuffle during the argument and fallen into the water and drowned. One thing led to another, accusations were thrown, and the rest was history. He doubted his grand-uncle was thinking straight especially given the Valar failed to notice his soul was fractured.
Bugger what a mess.
He still remembered how that brainless chicken seemed to conveniently undermine or forget the weight of what the oath was doing to the Feanorians. He actually shouted and got in trouble with Aunt Petunia when he read the part of how he called them kinslayers and mindless murderers while downplaying their oath as a choice.
NO you idiot it was an Imperio, you could've just asked Eru to help break it!!
Harry/Lomion doubted they would have said no! (They wouldn't have🤭).
But the point being that if Eönwë said something stupid or tried to jeopardize the united front against Morgoth on account of his big mouth. Then he was going to transfigure that supposed herald into a featherless pigeon for at least a day!
(In that moment Eönwë the herald of Manwë suddenly felt very cold and ran for his Lord)
Now, getting back to the task at hand he had just finished saying goodbye to Maglor and Erestor and was now walking through the forest on the path that led to Nan-Elmoth. Of course that wasn't his real destination. No, he was just staying on this path long enough to put a good bit of distance between himself and any followers Maglor may have sent to follow him out of worry. He had packed some coins, his firebolt, cloak, and tent for this trip. Barad Eithel was about 600 miles from the Gap and would take about a month or longer by horse to make the trip. As a Saker Falcon though it would take about three hours if he flew constantly at his top speed, but of course that wasn't realistic. It would probably take him about two days with breaks plus he wasn't in that much of a hurry seeing as it gave him to think. He couldn't believe he was doing this but he had no choice. He wasn't going to ignore the deity's kindness and he had to set up the defenses anyway. So might as well get this over with and bring to the front some of his Gryffindor courage. It was on that note that he deemed himself far enough and shot into the air as a Saker Falcon.
It was time to head to Barad Eithel
The trip had gone as well as could be expected. He had broken it up into two days and traveled as a bird. He would pitch his tent and set his wards in high mountains where he could get himself a good night sleep in his bed. It was nice to know it was snowing outside but he could take comfort in the fireplace his lodge tent sported. It was also nice to take a short break from thinking about screwing over dark lords. Though as they say all good things must come to an end at some point and before he knew it he was flying over the spiked mountains that encircled the fortress and bustling city of Barad Eithel where his grandfather the High King Fingolfin ruled.
He had to admit up close the place was beautiful.
It was white but not a bright white. No, it was like the city was colored in sandy beige that didn't reflect the sunlight with a bright glare. The buildings and rising towers looked like a lighter version of neo gothic architecture. They had the sharp feel of the unique art style but somehow felt lighter due to their color. Some of the homes really caught his eye as they looked similar to the domed homes that graced the island of Santorini in Greece. Some of the buildings were layered on top of each other and indeed oversaw the falls of the River Sirion.
Huh this must be where Elrond got his inspiration for Imladris.
He did take the time to explore the city while wearing an illusion. He stayed at an inn and tried the local food. He walked by the river and there were some instances where he thought he felt something. Hmm that must be Ulmo's protection on the water though it feels like it's slowly fading. This must be what Ulmo was referring to in his warning that his power was fading. He walked near where the main palace was located and learned where the entrances were and what trees surrounded the fortress. Luckily, nobody seemed suspicious of him as he was walking out in broad daylight and none saw through his disguise. When he wasn't exploring the city during the day he would mount his firebolt and invisibility cloak and take to flying over the fields of Ard-Galen that lied right outside the city. This place was full of mountains with conveniently loose boulders just waiting to be blown off.
It took about three days and some stealth but he was able to successfully blow a few boulders off the surrounding mountains and stack them a few miles outside the city. Silencing and notice-me-not charms really were the best for these sort of things. As a child he never appreciated "Wingardium Leviosa" very much but he certainly did now seeing as it helped move all the boulders without anyone noticing. He was surprised nobody said anything about strange stone stacks popping up(Oh they did😏). Well there were two stacks now so he would get the next batch on his next visit. By the end of the second week he had also begun chanting the spells for the primary defense barrier. He did so from his broom while floating above the city rather than from the ground. It was calming to have the starry night sky for a background while he worked. Still this was only the start and would take time to finish but luckily the areas he needed to cover were substantially smaller than his cousins territories. It was also around that time that he discovered his grandfather was in fact not in the city but on a hunting trip and was set to return in a few days.
With two days left before his grandfather was set to arrive he took his chance and packed his things from the inn before finding a quiet spot to change into a Saker Falcon.
He flew for the palace and perched on the windowsill of the palace office that he had located during his flights with note and pouch in beak.
And there low and behold was a raven haired elf that was sitting at the desk while working on some documents. He took a deep breath before he pecked the windowsill in gentle taps. The last thing he needed was a quill thrown at him as a weapon because he startled his uncle.
The elf turned and Lomion froze because what we saw for a moment was not a ner but some of his mother's face staring back at him.
He quickly recovered himself as a surprised elf came towards the window and opened it for him. Harry/Lomion quickly jumped inside and perched on the desk before dropping the letter and pouch and letting out a soft "chirp." Contrary to his first expectations the elf....Fingon smiled at him and walked around the desk to where Harry/Lomion now had his back to the window. His uncle then spoke.
"Well you must be the falcon I've heard so much about. Are you the reason my ever calm cousin Maedhros has become a jittery mess. Hahahaha he told us to be on the look out for a bird with unique brown and white plumage that may act as a messenger. I know not what this is all about but it seems he was referring to you and I suspect this letter is from your master. Has he decided to grace us with his oddities as well. Come now little one I only speak in jest but I must say you are indeed beautiful. Now, let's see what this master of yours has for me" his uncle Fingon said in a light hearted and kind tone.
Oh Gods his voice, it's so different from Turgon.
Agghhhh, his fëa suddenly throbbed for but a moment before his uncle started reading.
Greetings and Blessings to you Prince Findekano,
I hope this letter finds yourself and your father in good health. I first must apologize for making such an indirect introduction but circumstances prevent me from showing myself to you in person. I know you know not of me and have no reason to trust me but please hear what I have to say before you cast judgment.
A few years ago you must have noticed that the Doom of the Noldor cast by Mandos was lifted by forces you knew not of. I will admit that I indeed did play a part in this and the Sons of Feanor are indeed aware of it as shall probably be discussed at your upcoming meeting. Please know that this will have no negative effect on your house or any of the Noldor for that matter. Please know that I am an ally to the House of Finwë and seek only to protect you all from the darkness I have foreseen coming.
Please heed me when I say that there will come a time when the forces at Ard-Galen will need to be quietly withdrawn for their own safety. Whatever events you notice happening in the near future may most likely be my doing as I am working to build the Noldor's defenses. I have also ensured that Morgoth will not be focused on capturing any elves for the time being so please begin quietly building the city's defenses, especially against fire. As proof of my sincerity I have stocked a number of medicines within the pouch my friend has brought you. They will be necessary for what I have foreseen and must only be used in the most dire of circumstances. There is a stock number of 100 each and are listed as follows:
- Skele-grow (Limb regrowth/regrows bones)(It tastes horrible but it works)
- Renervate (Heals almost all deadly wounds/including poison & scars)
- Heart of the Lion (Heals Mental Scars)
- Burn Heal (Will cure burns even if the skin is burned off)
The instructions of use and administration for the medicines are located in the pouch and must be done only in the healing halls as the contents of the pouch will erupt when opened. Please know that the bottles for the medicines are enchanted against breakage and theft. Please forgive me for this but I did not have time to be subtle with the antitheft enchantments. Should anyone disloyal to the House of Fingolfin attempt to steal the bottles their hands will immediately explode but do not panic this is completely normal. In addition you can use the medicines to regrow their missing hands and heal the trauma of their fingers getting blown off. Again I apologize for the lack of subtlety but at least you'll know of any traitors or spies should you hear any blood curdling screams. Again just feed them a potion and they will be fine. I have sent these same medicines to your cousin and there has been no incident that I am aware of.
I know you have no reason to trust me. I know this seems very suspicious but the truth is that though we have never met I have heard of you endlessly.
The truth is I am family to you and I want to protect you all from what I have seen is coming. There is still time but I beg you to believe me because this especially concerns me when it comes to yourself and your father. I want you both safe and I am truly sorry I must stay away for now but I'm afraid I must. I promise I will show myself to you when the time comes.
Sincerely,
A friend of the House of Fingolfin and your family.
His uncle stood frozen as he finished reading the letter. Harry/Lomion stood there almost petrified of what he was going to say next.
Is he going to call me a liar?
Is he going to hate me?
Is he just going to think I'm crazy?
Before he could think further his question was answered.
"Family? .....it....it cannot be....could my dreams?...." his uncle said as though he had realized something.
What dreams?
His uncle quickly looked at him and whispered with an approaching hand.
"Little one what does your master mean when they say they must protect us and stay away. Please if...if they are who I think they are than I beg you to show me where they are. I cannot let them stay alone any longer, please little bird. I believe what your master is saying for I feel no lies in these words and I wish them no harm whatsoever. Ney, the opposite little one please" his uncle said in a voice that was filled with utter desperation and worry. His hand was getting closer but Lomion couldn't care as his mind and fëa were about to blow from the sheer shock of what he'd heard.
He believes him.
He has an idea who I am? Just like that?
He cares?
But it was too late as before he could think of doing anything. Fingon touched his head with a gentle finger and...........
............his fëa latched on to the uncle he so desperately wanted to meet.
He couldn't stop it.
He lost control.
His feelings of desperation and need for love slammed into his uncle with the force of an elephant.
His internal pleadings "please don't hate me" were repeating on an endless cycle.
His fear of them hating him overwhelmed his uncle to the point he started crying.
His desire to protect them despite not knowing him rubbed against his uncle's fea like a purring kitten begging for attention.
His trauma and sadness at being mistreated flashed through Fingon's mind where a rage started building at the horror if it.
......uncle.....please please don't hate me too.
He had to stop!
He had to stop!
He was going to know everything at this rate!!
STOP!!!!!
His uncle collapsed on the floor.
He let out a loud shrill.
He was shaking at what just happened. He completely lost control and now he just unwittingly strengthened their familial bond. Just how much did his uncle just see. He wasn't ready for any of this. But again before he could think his uncle looked at him with tears in his eyes and looked at him like he was something precious.
"Elbereth....you're....how?....Oh hína..." he said in a voice that was about to make him start weeping.
That's it.
He didn't think about it. He spread his wings and bolted right out of the window.
He heard Fingon yell "WAIT!!!" but he didn't expect what happened next. For in Harry/Lomion's mind he heard his uncle's voice calling out to him in utter desperation "Hína Hína PLEASE WAIT!!!.."
Oh Bullocks they have an ósanwë connection!!!
No No No he'll break at this rate. He couldn't stay here.
So without thinking he apparated while in midair but not before replying back to his uncle that he just met in miserable voice "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry but I can't not yet."
Then he was gone.
He didn't know how it happened but he knows that one minute he was apparating away from his uncle and the next he was crashing right through his window at the Gap in his elf form.
He was completely sobbing at this point and didn't care about anything anymore. This was a total mess and he could still feel his uncle trying to reach him through the bond. He couldn't believe this happened from just one touch! Everything was ruined and he just couldn't think. He didn't notice the glass around him or the commotion coming towards his room. He was just crying and screaming because he didn't know what to do! His fëa was completely out of control desperately calling out for someone to love him. This hurt so much but just as suddenly as the pain came it was suddenly eased and he found himself in someone's arms.
Then in a panicked voice he heard.
"Maeglin!!! Maeglin!! Pitya please listen to me I'm right here!!!"
He looked up and holding him in his arms was none other than the elf he'd come to consider a second father. It was Maglor and he looked utterly panicked. Then as soon as he was somewhat aware he felt his cousin's fëa touching his and trying to calm it down.
Oh...Oh he knows....well who cares now.
"Maeglin please listen to me. It will be alright. It will be alright I promise. I'm right here and nothing bad is going to happen. Please Pitya don't fear me anymore and stop running. Your fëa can't handle this anymore" said Maglor that was pleading with the reasoning being pure care.
Lomion didn't think about it when he said it but he said what he'd been holding in for so long.
"I'm scared to expect love."
Maglor froze.
"I'm scared because the last time I wanted to believe in it my uncle threatened to kill me when he met me, and I was only 80."
Maglor's eyes widened.
"He loved his city's secrecy more than he loved me and barely spoke to me."
Maglor's jaw dropped.
"My uncle killed my father right in front of me. He threw him off the cliffs and made me watch because he killed my mother when she tried to protect me."
Maglor was going pale.
"His daughter called me orc spawn, she thought I was scum, she thought I was a 'dark' elf."
Maglor looked like he was about to cry.
"They were going to kill me. If I stayed it would have killed me. They all hated me. I always wondered when I was next."
Maglor was shaking but not from horror.
"They didn't feed me if I didn't go to the kitchens. They messed with my forge work if I wasn't careful. They whispered about me everyday and my uncle did nothing."
Maglor held him even tighter and shook even harder.
"But you know what's crazy. I still love my father because he was kind once and the only one I ever knew. Am I evil for such a thing?"
Maglor had a tear run down his cheek.
"Please...please don't hate me too. Because this time it really will kill me."
That was all Lomion could bear before his blank eyes closed and he fell asleep in his cousins arms unknowingly strengthening their bond to that of a Godfather.
Not ever seeing the rage that decorated his cousin's face and the horror that covered the faces of another two elves.
Five Days Later
...............................................................................................................................................................
...............................................................................................................................................................
...............................................................................................................................................................
...............................................................................................................................................................
...............................................................................................................................................................
................ugh?
Huh?
Where?
....oh what is that noise?
"Pitya? Maeglin, can you hear me?"
Hmmm?
Oh
He cracked his eyes open and there holding his hand was Maglor looking relieved to see him awake.
Right. He was just crying like an idiot.....how embarrassing. Then he remembered something.
"You knew" he said as though it weren't a question.
He saw Maglor flinch.
Harry/Lomion sighed.
"Since when?"
That was when Maglor looked at him with a solid look that almost made him flinch. "Since the moment I saw you and looked into your eyes. I knew you were Aredhel's child and knew you were the one that's been helping us all this time."
Harry/Lomion couldn't believe it and said "Then why?"
"Because you clearly didn't want to make yourself known and I didn't want to go against your wishes. I feared if I did you would disappear and we'd all be left to worry for you without any hope of finding you. Eru have mercy on us when I discovered your fëa was in such a state. You have no idea how many times each of us wanted to hold you and tell you it would be alright but restrain ourselves we did lest you come to fear us" Maglor said with complete honesty. His cousin that he now saw as a second father reached for his face and gently held his cheeks.
"We love you Maeglin and I do too. You are our family and I will NEVER hurt you. If I ever did please feel free to use your strange magics on me. No doubt I'd certainly deserve it" his cousin said in attempt to break the tension and it worked as Lomion snorted.
"So where am I?" said Lomion in an inquisitive voice as he noticed he was lying on a bed and wrapped in warm blankets. The room didn't look like the healing halls.
"Oh this is my room, you were in the healing halls originally but then we moved you here to give you some privacy when you woke up. We took turns staying with you since you needed to be connected to someone's fëa" said Maglor in a patient voice.
"Wait we?"
"Yes, we. All of my brothers are here. Well actually they charged here and I think Nelyo got revenge on me because he kicked down the door to my office when he felt what happened to you through our bond. I'm sorry to say this Maeglin but they all know what you said before you passed out. I had no choice but to share it with them when they got here. I beg you to believe me but none of them are angry at you. NONE of them, not even Curufin" said Maglor in utter sincerity.
Lomion sat up and groaned into his hands at the embarrassment of it all.
"So I'm going to guess you knew I was the falcon. How much do you know of what I've just done?" he said in a tone that just screamed "great just great."
Maglor couldn't help but smile.
"We didn't know you were the falcon initially, tis not something you'd first guess at. Ney, we only found out after you fëa fed off Maedhros the first time you fell asleep on him following your first visit to deliver the potions. He was quite surprised but also touched that you see him as an uncle now. Seems you sought out affection from all of us subconsciously."
"Wait I what???? And when I was bird?? Is that why you all kept petting me so much more when I visited after the first?" he said as his ears started going red.
"Aye, indeed it is. It was the best we could do given the circumstances. Hahahaha Caranthir and the twins are quite upset you never visited them, for every time you did your bond with us grew stronger" his cousin said in a cheery and smug tone before getting serious.
"We know you went to see your Uncle Findekáno. Maedhros told me he was absolutely frantic on the other end of their bond. We have not told him you are here but he will certainly ask when he gets here in two months maybe less now. You need not tell me now but please let me know what you decide to do" said Maglor as he smiled at him and squeezed his hand in an affectionate way.
"I...I don't even know how I did that. At this point I can't really hide anymore can I? I'm not going to do that to all of you" he said as he realized the jig was really up now.
"Pitya you need not fear. Whatever you decide we will support it. Honestly, I have so many questions I don't think there is enough parchment in Arda to even cover it. But if you are willing I believe a discussion is in order?" Maglor said with a quirk of his brow.
"Yes, yes I suppose there is but before anything else. Ummm.....uncle?" he said in a sheepish tone that made his nose wiggle.
Maglor's ears actually perked up and smiled as he said.
"Yeeeesss, Pitya"
"Ummmm thank you and can... can I hug you?" he said as though it was the one thing he always wanted to do.
He needn't even answer as Maglor gently pulled him into his arms and tucked him under his chin.
Well whatever he'd definitely be happy now that he could enjoy this.
