Chapter 40

In the headmistress's office at Hogwarts, Professor McGonagall sat behind her desk. She muttered, "Mischief managed," as the office began to settle.

Ginny was the first to step through the fireplace, followed closely by Harry. "Professor," Ginny said, brushing off the soot, "I can’t say that ever gets more dignified."

McGonagall raised an eyebrow, her stern gaze fixed on Harry. "Potter. You’re back. And it seems you’ve finally ruined my carpet."

Ignoring the comment, Harry spoke urgently, "I need to find Albus. We need to."

The headmistress shook her head, her expression severe. "Harry, I think you need to stop and talk with Albus. He has betrayed your family and all Gryffindors."

Harry's face was resolute. "Minerva, I agree that Albus has betrayed Gryffindor, but I want to talk to him."

McGonagall’s eyes narrowed. "I just don’t think it is a good idea. Albus is a Slytherin."

Harry nodded reluctantly. "I agree that all Slytherins are evil, but I still want to talk with Albus."

At that moment, Draco and Pansy entered through the door, both looking determined.

"Draco? Pansy?" McGonagall said, surprised.

Draco stepped forward. "We need to see our son."

Pansy’s voice trembled with concern. "Scorpius wrote to us that he’s sad all the time, that Harry Potter has forbidden him from talking with Albus, his best friend."

Harry angry looked to Pansy. "I think that was a great decision."

McGonagall studied Harry’s face closely. With a resigned sigh, she retrieved a folded piece of parchment from her pocket and spread it out on the desk.

"I thought it was right to forbid Albus from talking with Scorpius," she admitted, "but perhaps it’s time to see where they are."

She tapped the parchment with her wand and intoned, "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good."

The Marauder's Map sprang to life, revealing the intricate layout of Hogwarts and the tiny labeled footsteps of its inhabitants.

"They are together," McGonagall noted.

Draco peered at the map, his brow furrowing. "In the girls’ bathroom on the first floor. What on earth would they be doing there?"
