Maya was smiling as they enjoyed the Pride parade. Carina was next to her holding Liam. Andy was right next to them while Meredith was holding Alex. Zola , Bailey and Ellis were walking next to them. Vic and Travis were heading out water bottles , Ben and Sullivan were at the medical tend and the other members of station 19 were looking around to make sure there won't be any trouble while Beckett drove the engine right behind one of the alegiric cars of the parade.
Was than that Maya heard someone call her name. " Maya!"
The Lieutenant turned around to find Mason. " Mason! Oh my God that is really you? How are you doing?"
Mason let out a smile. " I'm doing great. I'm clean. I got a job at an art gallery. I actually came to support some of the guys in the store. What about you?"
Maya smiled back. " That is amazing! I'm doing great. Actually this is my wife Carina and that is our Son Liam. We are fostering him to adopt. "
Mason pulled his sister to a hug. " Is so good to see you. And I'm an uncle now! "
Before anyone could say anything they heard slurs being yelled. A group of far right protestors were yelling and holds offensive signs. Was than they heard shoots being fired. " Carina, Meredith climb inside the Engine with the kids now! Mason go with them!"
Carina didn’t hesitate, tightening her grip on Liam as she pulled Meredith toward the fire engine. Meredith had already lifted Alex into her arms, her eyes scanning for Zola, Ellis, and Bailey.
"Zola! Ellis! Bailey! Come on, now!" Meredith called, her voice sharp with urgency.
Zola grabbed Ellis’s hand, pulling her toward the fire engine as Bailey clung to her side. Vic and Travis were already moving, ushering panicked people away from the chaos.
Maya turned to Mason, gripping his shoulder. "Go with them!"
"But—"
"Go, Mason!" she snapped, her lieutenant instincts kicking in. She turned to Andy, who was already moving." Everyone I'm with SFD ! Stand down and turn left to evacuate!" She pressed her radio. " Dispatch shoots fired at the Pride Parade. I need a full evac team, PD and every Aid Car you can get me. "
Chaos erupted as people tried to evacuate. Even with 19's effort there were people falling and been stepped on. The PD was trying to find the shooter with no success.
Andy ran back to the engine and climbed to the top. Maya went right behind her. The two firefighter stated to look around. They finally spotted the shooter. " Dispach we have eyes on the shooter. He is right behind the trans rights pink and blue bunner. "
The voice crackled over the radio. "Copy that, SFD. PD is en route. Stay clear and do not engage."
But Andy and Maya knew they couldn’t just stand by. The shooter was still firing, and people were screaming, scattering in every direction.
Andy locked eyes with Maya. "We need to contain him. We can’t wait."
Maya nodded, heart pounding. "We move together."
They climbed down from the engine and darted through the chaos, keeping low. Behind them, Beckett had pulled the fire engine forward slightly to provide more cover for the civilians still scrambling to safety.
As they neared the pink-and-blue banner, Andy signaled for Maya to circle wide while she approached from the front. The shooter was a man in a dark hoodie, gripping a semi-automatic weapon. His back was to Andy as he reloaded.
Andy acted on instinct. She tackled the shooter down causing him to lose grip on the gun. Andy quickly had in on a neck choke.
Maya was about to radio PD When she heard someone yell. " Gun!"
Maya looked up to find a men about to pull a gun she managed to tackle him as they were in the ground they fought for the gun.
The man struggled against Maya, trying to wrestle his gun free. Maya gritted her teeth, using every ounce of her strength to keep his wrist pinned. He was bigger than her, stronger, but she had years of training and the sheer force of adrenaline on her side.
Andy, still restraining the first shooter, shouted, "Maya!"
Maya twisted her body, using her knee to slam into the man’s stomach. He grunted, loosening his grip just enough for her to rip the gun from his hands and toss it out of reach. But he wasn't done. He swung at her, landing a hit on her ribs that knocked the wind out of her.
She gasped but didn’t let go.
The man flipped them, pinning Maya beneath him, but she reacted fast, using the heel of her hand to strike his nose. Blood spurted, and he howled in pain. Maya shoved him off her, scrambling to her feet just as PD arrived.
"Get down!" An officer shouted, gun drawn.
Maya held up her hands as the man next to her groaned, clutching his face. Another officer ran up, kicking the gun away before wrestling him into cuffs.
Andy had her shooter restrained as well, pressing her knee against his back. "This one’s secure!" she called.
The officers swarmed in, taking over. Andy finally let go, rolling off the man and sitting on the pavement, catching her breath. Maya did the same, her ribs aching with each inhale.
"You good?" Andy asked between breaths.
Maya nodded, wiping a trickle of blood from her lip. "Yeah. You?"
"Been worse."
Was than that they heard the radio. " Multiple injuries near the drag car we need assistance. "
Andy and Maya looked at each other them moved.
A few hours later.
The situation was finally under control. The injuried had been sent to Grey-Sloan. Carina and Meredith walked out the Engine and hugged their wifes.
Carina’s arms wrapped tightly around Maya, her breath hitching as she clung to her. “Sei pazza! Do you have any idea how terrified I was?”
Maya let out a shaky breath, pressing her forehead against Carina’s. “I had to do something.”
Carina pulled back just enough to cup Maya’s face, scanning for injuries. Her fingers brushed over Maya’s split lip, and her eyes darkened with worry. “You’re hurt.”
“I’m fine,” Maya assured her, though her ribs ached from the fight.
Nearby, Meredith held onto Andy just as tightly. “I swear, you have a death wish,” Meredith muttered against Andy’s shoulder.
Andy let out a weak chuckle. “Not a death wish—just instincts.”
Meredith pulled back, her eyes scanning Andy’s face. “You tackled a shooter, Andy. That’s not just instincts—that’s reckless.”
Andy softened, brushing a hand down Meredith’s back. “But I’m okay.”
Meredith huffed but didn’t argue, instead pressing a quick, desperate kiss to Andy’s lips before pulling her into another embrace.
The sound of a child’s sniffles caught Maya’s attention. She turned to find Liam nestled against Mason's shoulder. The blond scooped him in her arms. " Hi buddy. Mommy is okay. "
Was than that Chief Ross aproched them. " 19 you all can go home. Shift C is going to cover for you. I want everyone talking to Dr. Lewis before next shift. "
Andy just nodded. " Okay Chief. Mer let's grab our kids so we can go home. "
Maya looked up at her brother. " Mase you should come home with us. We have a lot of catching up to do. "
Mason let out a smile. " Sure sis. "
A while later at Maya's and Carina's place
Carina was cooking dinner while Mason and Maya had coffee at the kitchen table. Liam was bubbling in his high chair. " So Mase how long have you been working at this art gallery?"
Mason took a sip of his coffee. " Three years. I have been clean for three years and six months. I really turned my life around. I really sorry for the way I treat you in the past. For blaming you for so many things that were never your fault. "
Maya let out a smile. " It's okay Mase. I'm just glad to see you doing so well. I'm really proud of you. "
Mason smiled back. " That means a lot. So how long have you been married?"
Maya looked at her wife than back to her brother. " Three years but we have been together for almost four. I lot has happened since we last saw each other. I was promoted twice than demoted. I meet the love of my life and now I'm a mom. "
Mason chuckled, shaking his head. “Damn, sis, you don’t do anything halfway, huh?”
Maya smirked. “Never have.”
Carina walked over with a bowl of pasta, placing it in front of them before kissing the top of Maya’s head. “She really doesn’t. It’s exhausting sometimes.”
Mason laughed. “I can imagine.” He took a bite, humming in appreciation. “This is amazing, Carina.”
Carina smiled, sitting down next to Maya. “Grazie. So, tell me, Mason, do you still paint?”
Mason’s expression softened. “Yeah. Not as much as I used to, but I do. Working at the gallery kind of reignited my passion for it.”
Maya nudged him. “I’d love to see some of your work.”
“I’ll show you,” Mason promised. “I actually have a few pieces in a show next month. Maybe you guys could come?”
Carina reached for Maya’s hand, squeezing it. “Of course! We would love to.”
Mason smiled at them, then turned his attention to Liam, who was happily smearing pasta sauce on his tray. “And what about this little guy? How long has he been with you?”
Maya’s expression softened as she looked at her son. “ A few months. He is with us since he was relized from the hospital. Carina delivered him. A C-section on a kitchen after part of the floor collapsed during a structural fire at a firefighter ball. His bio mom didn't make it. "
Mason’s expression shifted, a mix of awe and sadness flickering across his face. “I can't even imagine what that must’ve been like for you two. But he’s lucky to have you both. He’s a good little guy.”
Maya smiled softly, her heart swelling as she looked at Liam. "He’s definitely a fighter, just like his moms."
Carina reached over to gently wipe some pasta sauce off Liam’s cheek. “He’s adjusted so well. We’re really lucky to have him.”
Mason watched the interaction with a hint of pride in his eyes. "You two make a great team. I can see how much love is here." He paused, considering his next words. “ I want to be part of his life it that id okay."
Maya smiled at her brother. " It's more than okay Mase. "
Mason scoped Liam in his arms. The babe blubbed happily. " So have been talking to Lane and Mom?"
Maya shook her head. " No. Last time I saw him was when I came out to him right before my weeding. Mom was there at the weeding but after that she got back to him so I haven't spoken with either of them. What about you?"
Mason took a pregnant pause. " I haven't tried to reach out. I don't want to have anything to do with him and if she is still with him."
Maya took a deep breath. " Yes. She mad her choice. She choose him and we choose ourselves. "
Six years later.
Mason was watching the kids while Maya and Carina were at Shift. Liam was six, Andrea was five and Gia was six months old. It was a Saturday.
Mason sat on the living room floor with Liam and Andrea, helping them build a massive block tower. Gia was happily gurgling in her baby bouncer nearby, kicking her tiny feet.
"Okay, buddy," Mason said, handing Liam another block. "If we get this one on top without it falling, we win."
Andrea crossed her arms. "Win what?"
Mason smirked. "Bragging rights. And maybe ice cream when your moms get home."
Liam carefully placed the block, and the three of them held their breath. The tower wobbled but stayed standing.
"Yes!" Liam cheered, throwing his arms up.
Andrea pouted. "I wanted to knock it down."
Mason laughed. "You can knock it down after we take a picture to show your moms, deal?"
Andrea thought about it, then nodded. "Deal."
Just as Mason reached for his phone, Gia let out a loud wail.
"Oh no, what happened, baby girl?" Mason cooed, moving to pick her up. He gently rocked her, but she kept crying. "Okay, okay, let’s check the basics. Not hungry, you just ate. No stinky diaper—" He paused and sniffed the air. "Wait. I take that back."
Andrea wrinkled her nose. "Ewww."
Mason chuckled. "Yeah, you’re not wrong."
He carried Gia to the changing table, setting her down carefully. "Alright, little one, let’s get you cleaned up."
After changing Gia Mason put her down in her bouncer and took a picture of the older kids with the tower and sent to Maya.
Liam waived his arms and knocked down the tower making Andrea laugh. " Let's do it again!"
Later that day Mason took the kids to the Station to see Maya.
As they walked inside he was greated by Brackett. " Bishop Jr. Your sister is in Cap's office with Grey. "
Mason nodded. " Thank you Beckett. "
Mason walked inside Andy's office to see Maya bandaging Andy's arm. " You are an reckless idiot. "
Andy rolled her eyes. " I saved your life! "
Liam clasped his hands. " Mommy you can't be mean to Tia Andy she will make you clean bathrooms!"
Maya smirked, looking up at her son. "Oh, is that so?"
Liam nodded seriously. "Yup! She is the boss!"
Andy chuckled, reaching out to ruffle Liam’s hair with her uninjured arm. "I like this kid. Smart and respectful of authority."
Mason bounced Gia in his arm. " What happened there?"
Maya looked up at him. " Fire on a store, there was a small exposion but glass flew everywhere so Grey dicided to play hero. "
Andy shook her head. " I tired to keep you from getting hit. "
Andrea looked at Andy with her big blue eyes. " Tia Andy protects you Mommy!"
Andy nodded. " Always cariño. So did you guys have fun with Uncle Mase. "
Liam nodded. " Si we build a big tower than I knocked down!"
Maya finished with Andy's arm and grabbed Gia in her arms. " Hi babe girl. Mommy missed you. "
Andrea clapped her hands. " Mommy can we see the firetruck?"
Maya nodded. " Yes honey. Let's show Gia and Uncle Mase the firetruck. "
Mason followed Maya and the kids to the bay, where Engine 19 was parked, gleaming under the station’s bright lights. Liam and Andrea ran ahead, their excitement evident, while Maya carried Gia on her hip.
Mason let out a low whistle. “Man, I forgot how big these things are up close.”
Maya smirked. “Yeah, they’re impressive, huh?” She turned to Andrea and Liam. “Okay, who wants to sit in the driver’s seat?”
Andrea immediately shot her hand up. “Me! Me!”
Liam pouted. “I wanted to go first.”
Mason crouched next to him. “How about we let Andrea go first, and then you can go after? That way, you can see what all the buttons do before you sit up there.”
Liam considered this, then nodded. “Okay.”
Mason lifted Andrea into the driver’s seat, and the little girl’s eyes widened as she took in the massive wheel and the dashboard full of switches. “Whoa… so many buttons! Do you get to press them all?”
Maya chuckled. “Not all at once. But some of them control the sirens and lights.”
Andrea turned to her uncle. “Can we turn the sirens on?”
Mason laughed. “I think that’s a question for your mom.”
Maya smirked. “Not today, but maybe another time when we’re outside. The station’s too loud already.”
Andrea pouted but nodded, gripping the steering wheel with both hands. “I feel like a real firefighter!”
Andy, who had followed them into the bay with Mason, smiled. “You look like one too.”
A few moments later, Maya helped Andrea down and lifted Liam into the seat. His small hands barely wrapped around the wheel, but he grinned wide. “Mommy, when I grow up, can I be a firefighter like you?”
Maya’s heart clenched. She wasn’t sure how she felt about her son following in her footsteps, given the dangers of the job, but she also knew how much being a firefighter meant to her. She smiled. “You can be anything you want, buddy.”
Andy leaned against the truck. “Liam Bishop. Future firefighter. Has a nice ring to it.”
Liam beamed, and Mason chuckled. “I don’t know, bud. Maybe you’ll be an artist like me. Or a doctor like Mama.”
Liam’s face scrunched up. “Doctors have to do yucky stuff.”
Maya laughed. “So do firefighters.”
Liam’s eyes widened. “Really?”
Andy nodded. “Oh yeah. When I first meet Tia Mer I had my hand inside a kids chest. "
Liam looked deep in thought, then shrugged. “That is yucky! I’ll think about it.”
Mason grinned. “That’s a good answer, kid.” He said before scooping Liam in his arms.
Maya smiled at her brother. " I'm really glad I found you again. "
Mason smiled back. " Me too sis. Me too. "
