Carina was desperate. Maya had locked her inside the apartment to stop her from going after Opal with Andrew. The doctor was beyond angry. She didn't want to play cop but she couldn't stop her brother so she had to at least try to protect him. Now she couldn't because her girlfriend had decided to invervane.

Carina dailed Andy's number.

Andy was just getting home from a long shift when her phone buzzed in her pocket. She groaned, kicking off her boots as she answered.

"Carina? What’s wrong?"

"Maya locked me inside the apartment!" Carina’s voice was frantic, laced with barely restrained fury. "She took my place, Andy! She went after Opal with Andrew!"

Andy’s blood ran cold. "She what?"

"She wouldn't let me go, so she locked me in! You need to find her, Andy! She—she thinks she can stop him from getting hurt, but she’s putting herself in danger!"

Andy was already grabbing her jacket and keys, her heart pounding. "I’m on it. Stay put—I’ll call you as soon as I find her."

"Andrea you are pregnant! You can't cheese a criminal! Just get your keys to the apartment so I can get out of here and find those idiotas!"
Andy clenched her jaw, torn between the instinct to run after Maya and the reality of her own condition. Carina was right—chasing after a criminal while pregnant wasn’t just reckless, it was downright dangerous. But the thought of Maya out there, putting herself in harm’s way, made Andy’s stomach churn with fear.

"Fine," Andy bit out. "I’m coming to you. Just—just breathe, okay?"

Carina huffed, clearly impatient, but didn’t argue. "Hurry, Andrea."

Andy was already moving, shoving her feet into her sneakers and grabbing her keys. She barely remembered locking the front door behind her before she was speeding toward Maya and Carina’s apartment.

The drive felt endless, her fingers gripping the wheel so tightly her knuckles turned white. She replayed Carina’s words in her head over and over—*Maya took my place. She went after Opal with Andrew.*

What the hell was she thinking?

Andy knew Maya was stubborn, protective, and impulsive, but this was beyond reckless. It wasn’t just about Maya anymore—Carina would be devastated if anything happened to her. And Andy… Andy couldn’t lose her best friend.

She parked haphazardly outside the building, barely bothering to lock her car before rushing up the stairs. The second she reached the door, she fumbled for her key and shoved it into the lock, throwing the door open.

Carina was right there, pacing like a caged animal, her face flushed with frustration and worry. The moment she saw Andy, she nearly lunged at her.

"Finally!" Carina snapped, rushing forward. "Give me the keys, I need to—"

Andy caught her by the shoulders. "Carina, *stop*."

Carina’s eyes burned with barely restrained desperation. "No! I have to go after them, Andy! If something happens to Andrew or Maya—"

"I *know*," Andy interrupted, forcing her voice to stay calm even as her own heart raced. "I know, Carina. But we have to be smart about this. Running in blind isn’t going to help anyone."

Carina shook her head, stepping back, her hands curling into fists. "I can’t just stand here and do nothing!"

"You won’t," Andy promised, grabbing her phone. "We’re calling Ryan's old Captain. He can get us backup, and we can find them without running straight into danger."

Carina exhaled sharply, nodding. "Fine. But hurry, Andrea."

Andy didn’t waste another second, dialing the Capitain's number with shaking hands.

Maya, you better be okay.

Meanwhile in the train.

Andrew and Maya were seating watching Opal from afar. " She is going to the airport we have to hold her enough before they can get a warnd for her arrest. "

Maya nodded. " I know. But we need to be careful Andrew. I don't want to get killed by her. I didn't even want to be here but I can't let you act stupid alone. "

Andrew shook his head. " Well she would be already in jail if anyone had listened to me. "

Maya exhaled sharply, forcing herself to stay calm. "Andrew, I know that is shitty but we are not cops ." She glanced at Opal, who was standing near the train doors, checking her phone. " So let's not play hero."

Andrew clenched his jaw, his knee bouncing anxiously. "I just—" He broke off, running a hand through his hair. "I can’t let her get away, Maya. Not after what she did to all those girls. Not after what she did to—" His voice caught, but he swallowed hard and shook his head. "I have to stop her."

Maya’s stomach twisted. She understood. God, she understood. But this wasn’t like running into a burning building—this was a different kind of danger, one neither of them was trained for.

"We will," Maya promised, gripping his arm firmly. "But we do it smart. No rushing in. No hero moves. We just watch, follow her, and wait for the police. "

Andrew looked at her, his expression tight with frustration, but finally nodded. "Fine."

The train began to slow as it approached the next station. Opal shifted her weight, glancing toward the exit.

Maya’s grip tightened on Andrew’s arm. "She’s making a move."

Andrew straightened. "Then we follow."

Maya inhaled deeply, willing her heart to stop pounding as they stood up, keeping a safe distance behind Opal as she stepped onto the platform.

Back at Maya and Carina’s apartment, Andy paced as she waited for the Captain to pick up. "Come on, come on…"

Finally, a gruff voice answered. "Hey, Herrera. What’s going on?"

Andy didn’t waste time. "Captain, I need help. Now. Maya and Andrew DeLuca went after Opal without backup. They’re on the train, following her to the airport. I know you don't have a warnd yet but this woman is dangerous. You can't let them go after her in their own. "

There was a beat of silence, then a curse. "Damn it. Alright. I’ll send a units to intercept them. But Herrera—you better not be thinking of running in yourself. I know you."

Andy clenched her jaw. "I’m not. Just hurry."

She hung up and turned to Carina, who was gripping the edge of the couch so tightly her knuckles were white.

"They’re sending units," Andy said, her voice firm. "They will find them."

Carina exhaled shakily, nodding. "They better. Because if anything happens to Maya or to Andrew...." She trailed off, shaking her head.

Andy didn’t need her to finish the sentence." Let's not go there.  "

Back to the train station.

Andrew and Maya kept fallowing Opal from a far. " Andrew she is on to us. We need to be careful. "

As Opal stated to run towards the exit Andrew chaased after her. Maya shook her head and ran after him. Before she could react him she felt a stab on her back. As she yelled in pain Andrew turned around. As Maya fall to the ground her attacker flew. Andrew kneeled besides Maya. " Maya hang on. "

As he pressed her wound he saw police chasse Opal and the men that had stabbed Maya.

An offer called for an Aid Car trough his radio. " Dispatch we need a bus now. We got a firefighter down. Stab wound to the back. "

Andrew’s heart pounded as he pressed his hands against Maya’s wound, trying to slow the bleeding. His hands were steady—decisive—but his mind was screaming.

“Maya, stay with me,” he said, his voice firm but urgent.

Maya let out a shaky breath, her face pale. “T-this is why… I didn’t w-want you to go alone,” she muttered, her lips twitching in something that might have been a smirk if she weren’t in so much pain.

Andrew shook his head. “Yeah, well, you should’ve stayed home too,” he shot back, his voice tight. “You’re losing blood too fast. Dammit, where’s that aid car?”

The officer who had radioed in knelt beside them. “Paramedics are en route. Just hold on.”

Andrew barely heard him. His focus was entirely on Maya. He tore off his jacket, wadding it up and pressing it firmly against the wound. Maya let out a strangled cry, her back arching slightly.

“I know, I know, it hurts,” Andrew said quickly. “But you need to stay still, okay? Just breathe through it.”

Maya swallowed hard, her breaths coming shallow and quick. “Carina’s… gonna kill me…”

Andrew forced a short laugh, his throat tight. “Yeah, well, she can take a number. I’m pretty sure Andy’s gonna kill you first.”

Maya gave a weak chuckle, but it ended in a wince.

Andrew glanced up, looking frantically toward the street. He could hear the sirens now—getting closer, but still too far away for his liking.

“Maya, listen to me.” His voice softened, taking on that calm, reassuring tone he used with patients. “You’re gonna be fine. The paramedics will be here any second. I just need you to keep your eyes on me, alright?”

Maya’s eyelids fluttered. “Trying,” she whispered.

Andrew’s chest tightened. He’d seen too many people lose consciousness from blood loss. He wasn’t letting Maya be one of them.

“Hey, hey, none of that,” he said firmly. “Stay awake, Maya. Talk to me. Tell me about…” He scrambled for something—anything—to keep her engaged. “Tell me about Carina. What’s the first thing she ever said to you?”

Maya let out a shaky breath. “She offered to buy me a drink. "

Andrew huffed. “I bet she was trying to get you to her bed.”

Maya blinked slowly. “She definitely was…”

Andrew nodded. “And you fell for her anyway.”

Maya’s lips curved slightly. “Hard…”

Andrew swallowed. “Yeah, I know.”

The sirens were louder now. The flashing red lights of the aid car reflected off the nearby buildings.

“Almost there,” Andrew murmured, glancing at the paramedics as they rushed over with a stretcher. “Maya, you’re gonna be okay. Just hang in there.”

As the paramedics moved in, Andrew reluctantly pulled his hands away, letting them take over. He stood back, his hands stained with Maya’s blood, his heart hammering in his chest.

Maya’s eyes found his as they loaded her onto the stretcher. “You… better not… blame yourself…” she murmured.

Andrew exhaled sharply. “I’ll make you a deal. You get through this, and I won’t.”

Maya smirked weakly before her eyes slid shut.

Andrew’s stomach dropped.

“Maya!”

The paramedics moved quickly, working to stabilize her as they rushed toward the ambulance.

Andrew didn’t hesitate. He jumped in after them, gripping Maya’s hand as they sped toward the hospital.

He wasn’t losing her. Not today.

At Grey Sloan Memorial

Meredith, Derek and Teddy were waiting for Maya at the ambulance bay. " Female 30's stab wound to the back. Lost a lot I blood.  "

Meredith nodded. " Take her to trauma to. Get an OR ready. Someone call Carina and Andy. "

At Maya's and Carina's apartment.

Carina's phone rung. It was Andrew. " Andrea-"

Andrew cut her off. " Maya è stata accoltellata. È serio. Mi dispiace, è colpa mia. "

Carina shook her head." È colpa tua. Hai deciso di interpretare l'eroe."

Andy couldn't understand what Carina was saying but she knew it was bed. " Carina what is going own?"

Carina turned to Andy. " Maya git stabbed. We need to go to Grey Sloan. "

Andy’s heart dropped at the words, the weight of them sinking like a stone in her stomach. "What?!" she exclaimed, rushing toward Carina. "How? When? Is she—"

"She’s been stabbed," Carina repeated, her voice shaking. "Andrew called. They're taking her to Grey Sloan. It’s bad, Andy. She lost a lot of blood."

Andy’s mind raced as she grabbed her jacket, her breath coming in shallow bursts. "Let’s go. I need to get to her. Now."

They hurried out of the apartment, Andy’s hands shaking as she fumbled for her keys. Carina, usually the calm one, was a storm of fear and frustration. She hadn’t said much since the call—she didn’t need to. They both knew what was at stake.

The drive to the hospital felt like an eternity. Andy couldn’t shake the image of Maya, bloodied and lying on the ground. She clutched the steering wheel so tightly her knuckles turned white.

"She’ll make it," Carina muttered, almost as if trying to convince herself. "She has to."

Andy didn’t respond. She couldn’t. Her mind was too focused on getting to Maya, on seeing her through this.

As they approached Grey Sloan Memorial, the flashing lights of ambulances and emergency vehicles were visible in the distance. Andy felt her pulse quicken, fear clawing at her insides.

They rushed into the ER, where the chaos of the emergency room was in full swing. Meredith, Derek, and Teddy were already there, waiting.

"Meredith!" Carina’s voice cracked as she ran to her sister-in-law. "How is she? How is Maya?"

Meredith turned to them, her face pale, but her voice steady. "We’re getting her into surgery. She’s stable for now, but it’s touch and go. The wound was deep. She lost a lot of blood."

Carina’s breath caught in her throat. "Is she going to be okay?"

"We’re doing everything we can," Meredith said, her eyes searching Carina’s face. "She’s strong, Carina. She’s a fighter."

Carina walked straight to her brother. " Ti avevo detto di non seguirla! Ora la donna che amo è in sala operatoria perché dovevi essere tu l'eroe! "

Andrew put his head down. " Carina, non potevo permettere a Opal di fare quello che ha fatto! Potevo lasciarla continuare a trafficare ragazze!"

Carina shook her head"Non sei una poliziotta, Andrea!"

Andy stepped in. " That is enough! Arguing won't help with anything! But Andrew next time you decide to play cop don't drag anyone else with you. "

Andrew didn't say anything else. Neither did Carina.

After hours that felt like days Meredith walked out the OR. " We managed to stop the bleeding. Her kidney was lacerated but we managed to save it. Is going to be a long recovery but she should be fine. She was really lucky could have been much worse. You can see her when she is on ICU. "

A while later

Carina walked into Maya's room. Seeing her girlfriend connected to all those machines broke her heart. " Hi bella. You really scared me. I'm so glad you are going to be okay. I love you very much bambina. "

A at next day

Maya woke up to find Andy seating next to her. " Hi Mai. You really scared the hell out of me. Carina is delivering triplets but she will be with you soon. How are you feeling. "

Maya blinked a few times. " Like I have been stabbed in the back. "

Andy huffed out a laugh, though her eyes were still clouded with worry. “Yeah, well, that’s because you were stabbed in the back, dumbass.”

Maya smirked weakly. “Figures.” She shifted slightly and immediately winced. “Ugh. Bad idea.”

“Yeah, don’t do that,” Andy warned, gently placing a hand on Maya’s arm to keep her still. “Meredith said it’s gonna be a long recovery. You need to take it easy.”

Maya rolled her eyes but didn’t argue. “Carina’s really delivering triplets?”

Andy nodded. “Yeah. Some kind of high-risk case, so she got pulled in. But she’ll be here as soon as she can. And Andrew’s been pacing outside like a kicked puppy.”

Maya sighed. “He blames himself.”

“Yeah, well…” Andy hesitated, leaning back in her chair. “He shouldn’t have played cop but is not like he forced you to go. What were you even thinking?"

Maya took a moment before replying. " He is Carina's brother Andy. I couldn't let him go on his on. "

“I get that ,” Andy muttered, shaking her head. “But seriously, Maya, when I got that call…” She trailed off, exhaling sharply. “I thought I was gonna lose you.”

Maya’s expression softened. “But you didn’t.”

Andy swallowed hard, nodding. “Yeah. And I don’t plan on it anytime soon. So stick with firefighting from now on. "

Before Maya could respond, the door opened, and Andrew stepped in hesitantly, hands shoved in his pockets. He looked exhausted, guilt etched into every line of his face. “Hey,” he said quietly.

Maya raised an eyebrow. “Thought you’d be hiding from Carina.”

Andrew let out a weak chuckle. “Yeah, well, she’s a little busy with triplets right now.” He hesitated, then stepped closer to the bed. “Maya, I’m so sorry. This is my fault.”

Maya sighed. “Andrew—”

“No, let me say this,” he interrupted. “I should’ve listened to you- when you told me to not make hero moves. You got hurt because of me.”

Maya met his eyes, her voice steady. “ You took a decision in a split of a second. Besides I choose to go with you. "

Andrew swallowed hard, blinking rapidly. Andy sighed from her seat. “She’s right, you know. You’re both idiots."

A few moments later, the door opened again, and Carina rushed in, still in scrubs. The second she saw Maya awake, her whole body sagged with relief. “Amore mio,” she breathed, moving quickly to Maya’s bedside.

Maya gave a small, tired smile. “Hey, babe.”

Carina cupped Maya’s face gently, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “You scared me so much,” she whispered, brushing her thumb along Maya’s cheek. “I thought I was going to lose you.”

Maya reached up, placing her hand over Carina’s. “I’m still here. And I don't plan going anywhere."

Carina exhaled shakily and pressed a kiss to Maya’s forehead. “You are never doing something like this again,” she murmured.

Maya chuckled softly. “Noted.”

Andrew cleared his throat. “I, uh… I’ll let you guys have a moment.”

He gave Maya one last look before slipping out of the room. Andy stood as well, patting Maya’s leg gently. “I’ll be back later, okay? Try not to get yourself stabbed again.”

Maya smirked. “I’ll do my best.”

Once they were gone, Carina leaned her forehead against Maya’s. “You are the love of my life, bambina,” she murmured. “Don’t ever scare me like that again. Is hard enough have you fighting fires. Just let fighting criminals for the police from now on. "

Maya closed her eyes, soaking in the warmth of Carina’s touch. “I love you, Car. So much. "

Carina sniffled, kissing Maya’s forehead again. “I love you more.”
