distraction
Remus and Lily stuck to the plan and Lily gently woke Remus up at 8:30 so he could get himself ready for the day.
They arrived at the café for 9am, walking through the doors to see James wiping down the counter as he stood waiting for customers.
The cafe was quite, apart from a few people sat at the tables the shop was empty of customers.
Remus and Lily started walking towards James when a furious Sirius came out of the storeroom and behind the counter to stand next to James.
Sirius started complaining to James about how he was rushed and how he doesnt want to even speak to Regulus because he knows he will just yell.
James stood nodding and trying not to get involved as he carried on wiping the counter down, his eyes flickering over to Remus and Lily who decided it was best to just go and find a table.
"oh look there's Remus, i'm sure he'd love to see you" James laughed nervously as he pointed over at their table.
"i'm not done with you, Potter" Sirius huffed before walking over to Remus.
hi Remus signed and Sirius sat down beside him, dropping his head down onto Remus' shoulder.
rough morning Sirius signed as he lifted his head up to look at Remus. Remus nodded and Sirius took their drink orders and made his way back over to the counter which James was no longer stood at, instead he was making his way over to Remus and Lily.
"Reg is on his way, it'll kick off soon, we have got to leave straight away i cannot be caught in the middle again" James exaggerated and Lily laughed.
look Remus signed before pointing over to the door where Regulus walked in, an unreadable expression on his face.
"he's pissed" James winced and Remus nodded.
Regulus walked straight over to the counter and started speaking to Sirius which obviously turned into an arguement, just as James had predicted.
James nodded at Lily before walking behind the counter. "Sirius i'm leaving, Lily needs my help moving her new sofa" James rambled and Sirius replied with a distracted "yeah yeah okay" obviously having not listened before going back to arguing with Regulus.
James took his apron off leaving himself in a white tshirt and black jeans before walking over to Regulus.
"see you at home" James spoke, pecking a kiss to Regulus' cheek to which he got a "yeah whatever" and James was finally in the clear to leave.
"lets go, and quick, theres only so long they can go on for...i think" James laughed and the three left the cafe swiftly, making their way to James' car which he smartly brought today.
James drove into town, missing the 9am rush hour traffic which meant it was only a 15 minute drive. They first got to the jewellery shop where James had ordered the ring from to pick it up.
"what if he hates it" James stressed as the three stood waiting in the jewellery shop.
i'll tell you what, i havent seen it and i'd say Regulus and i are pretty similar so why dont i tell you what i think, chances are Regulus will think the same. Remus offered and Lily translated to James who nodded eagerly before signing a yes please
The worker brought the small box out and James thanked him, following Remus and Lily out of the shop.
James opened the box and Remus looked at the ring inside. It was a simple silver band except for on the inside where the date of christmas eve 4 years ago was engraved delicately.
"thats the day me and Regulus got together, the year he moved into my house with Sirius and had his first proper christmas" James explained and Remus nodded.
he'll love it. it's amazing Remus signed, allowing Lily to translate and he watched as James' face eased, a smile appearing on his face.
"thank fuck for that" James laughed and the three continued on to their next stop. The store, where they planned to grab the rest of their items.
"i made a list, see if you think we need anything else" James handed Lily the list so her and Remus could read it over.
shopping list:
- Fairy lights
- flowers (roses)
- candles
- flower petals
- photos and frames
"looks great to me" Lily nodded and Remus agreed, handing James the list back.
The three spent an hour in the store, they first found a pack of fairylights which were a perfect yellow to light up the cafe. Then, they grabbed the perfect bouquet of Red roses for James to give to Reg and a pack of white flower petals for the floor. Next, was the candles, they picked out a few plain white candles that they could light around the cafe. And finally, they used the photo machine and James printed out a load of photos of him and Regulus from the beginning of their relationship to the photo he took last night of Regulus asleep on him.
"Now all we need to do is set up the cafe without Regulus or Sirius knowing" James sighed as they all got into the car.
whats the plan? Remus asked from the front seat. "Well, Sirius and Regulus have therapy at 5pm tonight which i'll drive them to, So how about i drop them off and then pick you both up? That gives us an hour to set the cafe up before i have to go back and get them." James suggested.
yes, great idea Remus agreed and James nodded. "i need something to tell Regulus, you know to get him out of the house. Saying i have a suprise will be too obvious, i mean he's teased me for not proposing already recently" James laughed and the three of them tried coming up with different ways to get Regulus into a nice outfit and out of the house.
"why don't you just say you're taking him to dinner? then when you're driving say you have to call at the cafe" Lily suggested and James beamed "you're a genius!" he insisted and Lily laughed.
they arrived back at the café and James continued working, alongside a miserable Sirius who eventually cheered up after having James and Remus back.
They closed at 4:30pm and Regulus showed back up at the cafe seemingly fine with Sirius again.
James, Sirius and Regulus said bye to Remus and Lily before getting in the car and driving to drop Sirius and Regulus off but Remus and Lily knew that wasnt the end of the chaos of the proposal planning.
