Harness Your Hopes

Harry felt nauseous, sick to the core. He found himself wishing he hadn't drank the Amortentia potion more and more, even if he couldn't help it. Maybe he should have paid more attention to Potions. He could have learned the side effects of drinking the damned liquid.

The brunette has been miserable the entire day. His stomach hurt so bad he skipped meals. Hermoine and Ron were worried for him, especially after he told them about the potion. The Golden Trio sat around the fire in the Gryffindor tower talking.

"How did you come to drink that thing? You know you aren't supposed to drink it. How does that make any sense?" Ron asked, leaning in his seat with interest. "I don't really know. There were voices, really pretty ones, all speaking to me at once. There was this sort of push pulling me towards the vile, and then I drank some. I think everyone was too busy trying to make their potions perfect so Snape didn't give them a horrible grade to notice. Plus, Neville blew his up again." Harry responded, holding his head that was now aching. "I've read of some people accidentally drinking the Amortentia potion. They either find their 'faded pair' or die from the side effects. Perhaps we should go down to the library and find more books with information on Amortentia." Hermoine said. "Maybe we could find a way to reverse it, or at least help you feel better." "That makes me feel much better, Hermoine, thank you. I am just so overjoyed to know that I could die from a stupid love potion." Harry grumbled. He leaned his head back against the chair. "Don't be so dramatic, Harry. You've survived far worse. Don't tell me you've forgotten about the War already?" Hermoine sighed and stood. "Now stop mopping around. You can sit down in the library while Ron and I look around for the right books, won't we Ron?" Hermoine turned the Ron with a hand on her hip. "Yeah." Ron sighed and stood, walking next to Hermoine as they left the main room. Harry wished he didn't have to go, but he caught up with his two friends.

Harry was seated in the back of the library, watching his friends flip through pages and pages of different books in silence. "Merlin, this will take ages! Can't we do this on one of our days off, Hermoine?" Ron complained, shoulders slouched and eyes bored. "Do you want poor Harry to suffer for the rest of the day? He hasn't even gotten anything to eat today." Hermoine barked back. "I guess I don't... Sorry, Harry." Ron apologized to the very tired looking boy across from him. "It's alright. I wouldn't want to do this myself. Thanks for all the help, guys." Harry thanked his friends, who went back to working.

Harry wished there was a window near where he sat. Instead, the only window was the large one down a few isles from him. He rested his head on his hand and rubbed his stomach. Drinking the warm liquid definitely wasn't worth it.

Draco always seemed to know where Harry was at all times. He acted like he hated the guy but in reality, if Draco would just stop telling himself it wasn't true, he was completely infatuated with him.

The Slytherin knew well that he was supposed to despise Harry, hate his guts... but how was he to do that if he was just so bloody perfect?

Draco was on his way to go mess with Harry more. He knew that he was in the library (not that he knew how). The blonde had seen Harry drink that Amortentia potion earlier that day. He wanted to know why, and what he was seeing after he did so. The thought of Harry finding his soul mate that wasn't him made Draco's blood boil and his heart clench. He knew well that Harry would most likely end up marrying that nice Ginny girl. She was also head over heels for Hogwarts' Golden Boy. Nobody in Hogwarts could completely despise Potter. He was amazing at Quidditch and has decent grades. He represents his House with such power and grace it's almost hard to believe your own House could earn more points than Gryffindor.

Draco strolled into the mostly quiet library. There were a few students who were speaking rather noisily, but everyone was spread far enough apart that it didn't really matter. The library was so big that you could have a whole section of it to yourself and not be disturbed the whole time you were there. Because of this, it took Malfoy some time to find who he was looking for, and two other mice he didn't.

Harry was hunched over in his seat, arms around his stomach and face scrunched up into a look of pain. Draco wished he didn't feel pity for the other boy, but he did. A lot of it. However, he had a mission, and something as simple as human emotions would not get in the way.

"Potter." Malfoy's voice echoed through the large space. Harry looked up to see who called his name. His face turned from one of tiredness and agony to one of annoyance and anger. "What do you want, Malfoy? Here to brag about something I have already forgotten about? You do seem to hang onto the little things a lot." Harry growled through clenched teeth. "Not today. I'll be saving my bragging about that time you got hit by a Bludger last year for another time. Though it is quite hard to contain my laughter." Draco sneered. "But no, right now I have some questioning to do. Questioning about why you drank the Amortentia potion earlier in Potions. What are you up to? So lonely you can't bear it anymore?" Draco teased, even though he very much was describing himself. "That's not even close to being it!" Harry snapped in response. "Oh, but such a harsh tone for it being all a lie? Trying to cover it up?" Malfoy went on, feeling a sort of satisfaction as he watched Harry come undone in front of him. Angry, upset, and tired. All things Harry looked to be.

Draco held a smirk on his face as he stared into Harry's captivating emerald eyes. So dearly did Draco want to reach for Harry's face and run a finger over that damned scar on his forehead. The resentful look in Harry's gorgeous eyes is what kept Draco going and going with this. "Not saying anything I see. That's a first." Draco scoffed, hearing Harry mutter an: "Easy for you to say. ." Harry's eyes were focused somewhere else, but Draco could still see the blazing fire in them, like Harry was only stopping the think of what to say next, what to do. And God, seeing Harry like this again was like drinking water after a lifetime in the desert.

"This is all too problematic, Malfoy." Harry finally sighed. "If we're going to fight like this all the time, then why don't you just leave me alone? There's no use in being around each other. Besides, you really annoy me. We can battle it out in Quidditch but when we're in school, can't you just leave me to do my own thing? This has been going on for the past eight years, don't you think it's enough?" Harry went on.

This was a new feeling. It felt like Draco's skin was burning but from the inside. Like something terrible was trying to claw its way out of his stomach, or like the splitting pain of getting an arrow shot through your chest. "Just stay away from me, for one moment at least." Harry turned to his buddy, Ron. "Don't turn away from me, Potter." Draco was the one talking through clenched teeth now. He felt so angry, like he could punch a brick wall over and over again and still need something harder.

Harry turned, his big, doughy eyes looking so done with this whole conversation. "What more do you need to say? I'm done fighting with you. I have my life and you have yours. Is there any real reason to get in each other's way? Maybe it was the War or my own realization, but we're just acting like children. None of the stuff about the Amortentia potion is really your business." Harry turned fully in his seat to face Draco. That fluffy, soft looking hair shielded his round eyes from view. "Then why are those Pricks helping you?" Draco pointed to Ron and Hermoine, who were both trying to ignore the annoyance presence that was Malfoy. "Because they're my friends, that's why you aren't helping." Harry grumbled the finishing blow.

There's that arrow again.

Draco scoffed once more. "Alright, then. I'll leave you be, but just know, that if you try anything I will most definitely not hesitate you use my wand." Malfoy turned, waiting a moment to see if Harry would say anything. . But he didn't.

Draco walked down the long hall of the library, muttering angry curses to himself. What went wrong in his brain that he had to like Harry Potter? He was his enemy. Harry would never like him, and yet here he was, dumb over Harry's magnificent forest green eyes. The way they look up at Draco to see him, and his glasses framed them well, and how Harry's dark and messy haired contrasted perfectly with them. His hair just made them stand out more. Draco wanted to run his fingers through those locks as he and Harry both lay and stare into each other's eyes. Draco wanted to his Harry's pink lips and feel them against his own, though this longing would never be fulfilled. Draco wanted to know what Harry was thinking. Was this really how he felt about the blonde Slytherin? Although Draco knew it was coming. Nobody would like someone who treated them the way Draco treated Harry.

Though the green mist and deep smell of cologne said otherwise.
