Slytherin
2/9/72
As you can tell it's the second day at Hogwarts, and I can already tell I'm going to have some trouble...
I guess I shall start with what happened once me and Pans got off the train.
We found Sirius and his friends, Pettigrew, who Sirius had mentioned once or twice, Potter, whom Sirius had gone on and on about, and Remus John Lupin, where oh where do I even think to begin with him, Sir-
((Sirius looked at the book with a slight frown, had I really spoken about Moony that much? He asked himself, his mouth tilted upwards slightly, despite popular belief amongst their peers, Sirius had always been the more observant of the two brothers, and even if Regulus had figured out that Sirius and Remus are together, he's dead now, not like he can say anything about it, Sirius felt a sour taste in his mouth, Regulus was dead, he was reading a dead- boys, man's?, how old was Regulus when he died?))
-ius mentioned that his eyes are the colour of a rich, chocolate and his hair is a beautiful sandy brown, and that his scars look like they were painted on by some famous muggle artist his "friend" Lily Evans had showed him in one of her weird muggle books, Merlin, what was the name, maybe David Brownie?, no, wait, merlin...-
((At first Sirius was confused Regulus said muggle instead of the M slur, he was sure he had mentioned the fact that Lils is a muggleborn, just to see if it would cause some type of reaction from Regulus, looking back, it didn't, and then Sirius was confused by the inverted comas, or what James calls them, Bunny ears, on both sides of friend, but he soon remembered he had done the bunny ears when saying friend, but then Sirius fell into a breath stealing fit of laughter, "DAVID BROWNIE? OH MY FUCKING MERLIN REGGI-" Sirius stopped himself before he could make that mistake, the mistake he hadn't almost made since, well, since he saw the prophet on that grim day))
Well, that's not the point, the point is that me and Dora found him to be slightly sad looking, though I would never mention that to Sirius.
((Sirius scoffed, Moony, sad looking? Says Regulus 'looks minutes away from jumping off the astronomy tower' Black, he thought, the sun was just starting to rise, and Sirius was sure this would take a lot longer than a week to get through...))
/-/
As soon as they stepped off the train Sirius' booming voice traveled its way into their ears.
"Reggie," Sirius bellowed, leaving his three friends behind.
When Sirius had got to the two of them his eyes started to water, his baby brother was starting his first year, he thought, the boy he pretty much had to raise...
Before he could burst into tears he grabbed Regulus' arm and yanked him into a hug.
"Ohhhhh, I can't wait for you to be in Gryffindor, it'll be amazing Reggie, just you wait." Sirius exclaimed, Regulus' smile faltered, but instead of letting that show through his demeanour he tightened his arms around his brother.
"Yeah, can't wait..." Regulus whispered, Sirius stepped back to put his hands on Regulus' shoulders, Regulus had always been significantly shorter, and Pandora had always loved to tease him about it.
No one could say anything else because one of Sirius' friends was calling him back over, the oldest of the three started taking small steps back, smiling at Pandora, then Regulus, and then running over to the other side of Hogsmede Station.
The two first years made their way to a jolly looking figure calling out to all the first years, he had rosy cheeks and a massive beard that Sirius had said would put Uncle Alphards to shame, and he was right.
The man's bushy eyebrows knit together as he looked the list of students.
"So, it seems we ur missing, Regulus Black, Pandora Lestrange and Dorcas Meadowes,"
Strange, I thought there would be a lot more people running late Regulus thought to himself before Pandora clasped her hand in his and pulled him to the front of the group.
"Nope, no, sorry, hi I'm Pandora Lestrange and this is Regulus Black," Pandora said, letting go of the boys hand to shake the man's.
He looked slightly taken a back before letting out a small, deep chuckle and shaking Pandoras hand.
"Pots, shake his hand," Pandora demanded in her stern voice, turning to face him while furrowing her eyebrows, setting a playfull look of annoyance on her face.
"Yeah pots, shake his hand," came a voice unknown to both Regulus and Pandora, before either of the two could ask her who she was, or in Regulus' case, who did she think she was, she introduced herself to Hagrid.
"Dorcas Meadowes," and then it made a lot more sense, Meadowes, comes from a long line of pure-blood Gryffindors, all of them known for their camaraderie with the quote on quote, good side of history, and for their constant need too piss their peers off, this is going to be a fun seven years, Regulus thought to himself, groaning internally.
Before anyone could say anything else Hagrid decided to interrupt before an argument could break out.
"So, first years," Hagrid started, though Regulus wasn't really paying attention, he was just relieved that Sirius had told him pretty much everything about everyone at Hogwarts, how he got the knowledge? Regulus does not care and didn't ask, he's just happy to have names to put to these unknown faces.
"Assume yer all here..." The giant murmured, looking the crowd over once more and nodding to himself.
"Alrigh', " He said, clasping his two hands and rubbing them together.
"Follow me!"
The small children followed with wide eyes to the docks, it looked more magical than what Regulus had ever seen, the stars twinkling and the cloudless sky just made it all the more amazing, he could already hear Sirius' voice in his head saying "Wait till you get to the great hall, now that's something."
"Right, so I don't think I have ter explain, but four first years a boat please." He huffed setting himself in one and waiting for the first boat to fill up before setting sail.
Everyone rushed to friends they had made on the train, or just people they'd been friends with outside of school.
Regulus and Pandora stuck behind, waiting for everyone to find where they wanted to go first, a tactic they always used in hopes of not being split up.
Looking back that may have not been the best decision because when they boarded the boat, someone Regulus and Pandora loathed with every fibre of their beings was waiting on it.
There are three things you need to know about Regulus,
1. He doesn't like odd numbers, so the fact five people had to get on or else one of them wouldn't make it to Hogwarts, really pissed him off.
2. Pandora was not his first or only friend, was, being a keyword.
3. He can not stand Evan Rosier, so when him and Pandora stepped into the boat, reluctantly, may he add, he was not happy at all.
"Regulus Black," came the obnoxious voice of Barty Crouch Jr, they'd only met once, but both could tell they did and never would get along.
"Crouch, Rosier,"
"Oooo, that one hurts," Evan snickered,
"No Ev?" He asked in a condescending tone.
"No, Evan, piss off," Pandora said, crossing her arms and glaring at the two boys infront of them, truth was Regulus had been quite good friends with Evan, considering he was a Rosier and all, so, by association, Pandora was also friends with him, until he told his dad about Regulus and Pandora, who then told Walburga and Orion.....Let's just say it didn't end well for Regulus.
"And what about you, Barty, where's Dorcas," Pandora knows Crouch and Meadowes a lot more than Regulus does, so it didn't surprise him when later that night she was complaining about having to even share a common room with him.
Barty couldn't even think of a snide remark before they were interrupted by a very, very loud girl stepping into the boat.
"Sorry," she said, elbowing Regulus in the face,
"excuse me," she apologised,
"This is th' lest boat " She said in a way of explaing the intrusion, plopping down next to Barty.
"And?" Evan asked, raising an eyebrow and looking at her in frustration.
" This is th' lest boat ..." She repeated, her smile faltering before she decided to ignore him and talk to Regulus and Pandora instead.
"A'm Sienna Nightly," she introduced, plastering a mischievous grin on her face as she shoved an outstretched hand in Pandoras face.
"I'm Pandora Lestrange," Pandora replied warmly
" 'n' ye?" Sienna asked, cocking her head as she moved her hand infront of Regulus, she obviously didn't know the war that was going on in his head,
a Rosier is on this boat, he doesn't like me, she's either a half-blood or muggleborn, he had a 50/50 chance of getting out of this unscathed.
"Regulus Black," He answered, putting on a small smile, taking her hand in his and shaking it, he could feel Evan and Barty shooting daggers into him through their deathly gazes, but he couldn't find the strength to care, Sienna seemed nice enough, no matter her blood status...
And that was the mindset that would eventually get him killed...
But of course, the fear of his parents finding out echoed in the back of his mind, he could never shake it, he wasn't as brave as Sirius, so, he quickly drew his hand away and stuffed it in between his legs.
"Mah mams a witch 'n' mah dad's some random muggle, sae it kin git confusin tae explain ," she said, her Scottish accent becoming all the more prominent when she said "mum", she set her elbow on her leg and put her chin in the palm of her hand.
"Tae be completely honest ," she finished.
Sienna had said this so out of the blue it took Regulus, Barty and Evan off guard, nothing never surprised Pandora though, her and Sirius used to gossip about pure-blood society before he left for his first year, but really, she may never get surprised because she's a seer...
The look on Sienna's face told Regulus everything he needed to know, she understood, she knew, and, luckily, the piercing gazes got drawn away.
"Wel-" Barty started before being interrupted by the boat reaching its destination, it stopped abruptly, and before anyone could start up another conversation, Evan exited the boat, dragging Barty along with him.
"Since when were they all buddy-buddy?" Pandora asked as Regulus held an outstretched hand for her to hold onto while getting out the boat.
Regulus shrugged as he kept his hand where it was, waiting for Nightly to use it.
"Thanks," Sienna said, jumping down from the boat, landing with a thump.
"You're very welcome," Regulus replied, flashing the blonde an amused smile, they're gone, he thought, and she's a half-blood, it's all fine.
Sienna gave him a mock curtsy before moving to stand with Pandora.
"A dinnae ken, but, a've lived 'ere a' mah whole life, so dinnae ken much aboot ye londoners ..." Sienna replied, grinning at Pandora and then at Regulus as the three of them started walking to where the rest of their year had clustered.
Regulus raised his eyebrow and moved subtly so that Sienna wouldn't see him.
'What..' Regulus mouthed confused, Pandora only graced him with a shrug before turning the other way, admiring the night sky.
Regulus was sure they'd get used to Sienna's accent soon enough, but, who said she would stick around with them, a part of Regulus wouldn't mind if she stayed, but he knew if his parents found out they would very much mind.
The three made their way to the front of the group, mainly on Sienna's say so, she said she always likes to be at the front of anything, said it makes her feel more brave than she actually is, and at that moment Regulus decided she would make a good Gryffindor, being friends with her would be one thing, but being friends with a Gryffindor? That's a death wish.
A tabby cat shot out of a nearby bush, and Hagrid? He was nowhere to be found.
Pandora squeeled when she saw the feline, she bent down to pet the cat, it purred under her hand and nuzzled into the palm.
"Pots, look at this," She gasped through excited giggles,
"Pans, I really don't thi-" He said, trying to contain his laughter, from what he'd gathered from Sirius that would be...
Pandora jumped back as the cat shifted and turned into a woman, Sienna let out a startled gasp and hid behind Pandora who had hid behind Regulus.
"I am not a cat," The woman, Mcgonagall, claimed, brushing of her robes with her hands,
"I am an animagus, and your transfiguration professor, " she said sending a pointed glare behind Regulus.
She shook her head, and walked over to the entrance they would be going through.
"Single line, everyone please," she said, looking at everyone down her pointed nose, but not like mother, he could heat Sirius saying, never like mother.
"Now, we don't have all day," she said clapping her hands, everyone immediately formed a single file line, Regulus, Pandora and Sienna leading the way, very reluctantly on Regulus' part.
The timid first years followed the woman through the halls, her heels reverberated as she walked up the stairs, the first years following close behind.
She stopped abruptly, causing the first years to bump into each other and then shuffle to a stop,
"Now,"
"Welcome to Hogwarts," said Professor McGonagall.
"The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts."
A chant sounded in Regulus' head 'Slytherin, Slytherin, Slytherin,'
"There are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw," she took a small break, to breathe, and to add suspense, she is Gryffindors head of house after all.
"Slytherin,"
Mcgonagall flung the doors open, allowing the first years to see the inside of the great hall, when they stepped over the threshold Regulus heard Sienna let out a small gasp, he also felt Pandora cling herself to his arm,
"Pots this is amazing," and it was, it really was, he would never let that translate over to his face but he himself was trying to suppress his gasps, the ceiling was see-through showing off the shining stars and constellations, Regulus caught sight of Sirius almost immediately, there were floating candles that lit the dim hall, and it was the most amazing sight, he couldn't wait until the yule season, Sirius had said they "go all out", probably more muggle talk, Regulus had previously decided.
"When I call out your name, please step up go the stall, I will place this hat on your head, and you will be sorted, now," The witch said picking up a scroll and opening it.
"Anderton, Mikela,"
A Hufflepuff,
"Aderin, Trinity,"
A Ravenclaw
"Bilteral, Michael,"
Another Ravenclaw
"Bilancia, Anna,"
A Gryffindor
"Black, Regulus," It was as if all the spotlight was on him, everyone in that hall turned to look at him, there were some murmering, and out of the corner of his eye he could see Sienna glaring at certain groups, he felt Pandora nudge his arm encouragingly.
And before he knew it the hat was about to be on his head, he searched the great hall until his eyes met Sirius' his brothers smile was wide, and he gave Regulus a nod, as if saying, seen you tonight, before his vision was completely blocked....
"Hm, another Black?" A voice boomed in his head, it startled him slightly, but then he remembered what Sirius had said, the hats cunning Reg, it would be a Slytherin if it was a real person, Regulus decided he would have to watch his tounge.
"Yeah, it is..." He answered, it was weird having a conversation in his mind.
"Well, well, well, this new generation of Blacks do surprise me..." it said thoughtfully, before Regulus could ask it exactly what it meant by that it said something that caught Regulus highly off guard,
"You're like you're brother, you are..." it hummed, a slight tone in the voice that Regulus couldn't make out.
"Sirius?"
"Yes, that's the one, Sirius, he was an interesting one, a minute, that one took"
But Regulus hadn't finished,
"I'm like...Sirius?," He asked in disbelief, later on he thought the hat had gone completely mad.
"That is what I just said, wasn't it?" The hat chuckled,
"Well, I can't believe I'm saying this for a second time but-"
"NO," Regulus screamed as loud as he could in his mind,
"No, please, I can't be Gryffindor, my parents will not hesitate to use the killing curse," Regulus said, his voice wavering at the end.
"I see, well then, maybe I was wrong, you're a lot like your cousin Andromeda, now that one, that was a hard sorting..."
"I'm sorry...Andy? Now I know you need a trip to st mungos," was it rude? Yes, but Regulus couldn't find it in himself to care.
Though the hat decided to completely ignore Regulus' remark,
"Are you absolutely sure, you could do wonders in Gryffindor, you could do what you are meant to much better in Gryffindor then you ever could Slytherin,"
Regulus hadn't even registered what the hat said completely before the chant of Slytherin, Slytherin, Slytherin made its way to the front of his mind, barging past the thoughts of Gryffindor and Sirius and Having a good relationship with his brother.
"Alright then, but I am afraid you are making a grave mistake...." It sighed before letting out the most reluctant...
"SLYTHERIN,"
