The Tapestry

Sirius walked across the cracked path, he doesn't know why they never got it patched up, it's not like they never had enough galleons, or power, if they wished they easily could have frightened someone into fixing it, and knowing his parents, Sirius was severely surprised they never did.

Weeds and tufts of grass stuck out of the cracks and made it look quite overgrown, a few dandelions were trying to stick up from the gaps, they were the only bits  of colour in such a drab front garden.

He couldn't help but think how angry dear old mumsy would have been to see the house in such a condition, not like anyone could see it and not like she ever stepped through the front door, not once in his childhood could Sirius remember his mother leaving the house instead of opting for apparition, and no one ever dared say anything against her because she held everyone aswell as half of the pure-blood society in the palm of her beautifully manicured hand.

He grabbed hold of the key he had so carelessly shoved into his pocket and drew his hand out, and just as he was about to slot the key through the hole he stopped, was this a good idea? He thought, the fact he even had to ask himself that question meant he had to go in, he could already hear them, his mother and father, telling him he was weak, that he was too scared to go back in, that they won.

But he wouldn't let them win, not in a million years, and the sorting hat put him in Gryffindor for a reason right? It thought Sirius different, because he had the most courage out of anyone in his family, he was the bravest in the family.

And so with that thought, he jammed the key into its rightful place, twisted it, turned the knob, and creak, he was in.

Kreacher wandered past before noticing the looming figure of Sirius Black, he suddenly stopped, but it seems he refused to even look in the young mans direction.

"Welcome home, Master Black."

"This was never a home and you know that Kreacher." Sirius said bitterly, stepping in to the house and shutting the door behind him.

Kreacher didn't reply, he only shuffled down the stairs to the kitchen in a hurry, Sirius couldn't help but scoff, the old bat never liked him, even Kreacher preferred Regulus over him.

Looking around made him realise that this old place had never changed, sure the wallpaper was peeling, but it was like that when he lived here, and obviously it's vacant of a few things but that happens overtime.

The first place he knew he wanted to go to was...

Before he could finish his thought his feet had automatically taken him to see the tapestry, his eyes wandered around the piece of fabric, he could very faintly make out his name on the tree, but he could see Regulus, bright and clear.

Sirius' picture had been blasted off, it was obvious that it was done in a moment of pure, blatant, anger because Andromedas was more subtle, merlin, Andy, I'll have to send some galleons over he thought while tracing her name on the tree, if he had it his way no one but him, Andy and Uncle Alphard would be on the tree, funny the three disowned are the only good people to have been on the Black tree...

His light grey eyes wandered over to the staircase, he should probably start looking through upstairs, even though he knew that was where all the hidden boggarts were. Sirius walked over to the stairs and hesitated, fuck, what was it with him and hesitating today?

Sirius shook his head and started his journey up the stairs, every step he took started and ended with a creak, every, single, step. It just reminded him of when they where younger, trying to get away from the place they shouldn't have been and the floorboards constantly making noise under their weight.

It was always a loosing game for him, always.

Then he stopped walking, in front of a door he wasn't going to touch, he wasn't intending of stepping a toe in, the room of his younger brother.

It felt as if his body was on auto-pilot because when his hand reached up to turn the knob he expect Regulus to start telling him to piss off, or get fucked, or just go away, but of course he didn't, because he was dead, and maybe he wouldn't be if Sirius had done something, anything, to help, but obviously he hadn't.

When the door opened Sirius took a weary step in and he was immediately hit with a cold breeze, the idiot left the window open, whether it was Regulus, Kreacher, or his parents, he didn't want to know.

When he shut it he saw a black cat prance over to the front gate of the garden, Sirius payed it no mind as it wouldn't be able to get past the wards anyway.

Before he could dwell on it too much, he remembered what he was doing here in the first place.

"Right, where should we star-" Sirius was going to walk to the dresser, but he tripped on seemingly nothing. His brother always kept his room neat and tidy, most of all clean.

With his black canopy bed against the wall, with green curtains surrounding it, a black rug lived underneath his bed. everything in this room was black and green, and that was pretty much all Sirius noticed, black dresser pushed against the wall facing the bed, his desk in the corner of the room with pieces of parchment on top and a pot of ink and quill next to it.

Other than that, his room was plain, so, so plain, but then again so was Regulus, he may have only thought that because he never took the time to speak to his little brother, but he was sure what the answer was going to be anyway, afterall Regulus had been one for cutting out pieces of the prophet that depicted anything and everything to do with the dark lord.

Sirius looked at the floor, trying to find what he had tripped over, he couldn't see anything until he noticed a floor board that was slightly ajar.

"Oooo Regulus, what secrets did you have?" Sirius asked, smirking to himself as he pulled the row of wood up and set it aside.

A cloud of what he could only assume was dirt and dust that had built up over time formed a cloud and aimed for his face, he coughed and spluttered, wagging his hand in front of him in a pathetic excuse of trying to clear it away, once he was successful he looked down at the gap.

His eyes landed on three thick books, filled to the brim with pages and pages of writing, next to it were numerous letters.

"What the fuck is this Reg, your death eater diaries?" His eyes looked to the sky as he said this, but then decided he better look down, after all Regulus had killed people, he then realised he should sit crossed legged for this, it was gonna take a while.

He opened the book that had a large one in silver on it, it was on a yellow leather background with a pale green spine.

Whoever got this for Regulus obviously wasn't a Black, and it made Sirius realise that maybe Regs favourite colour wasn't green?

As soon as Sirius opened the book to the first page, a piece of parchment  dropped out, 'Merlin Reg', he thought when he set the book down beside him and picked the letter up.

31/12/79

Looking through this made me realise just how much of an idiot I really was, pushing people away, pushing my brother away, just pushing my parents so that I aggravated them too much, I really shouldn't have done half the things detailed in the next three books.

But now I'm setting things right, I'm going to force things to be alright, because that's what I've always done, forced myself to be happy, forced myself into a certain mindset that I'm now going against.

I'm going to set things right one way or another, and this was just the only path I can take.

R.A.B ~

Sirius set the letter down in curiosity for what the three books contain, what are the contents Regulus regrets so much? Sirius couldn't rap his head around any of it.

31/12/79, that's... And then if Sirius had any doubts before he certainly didn't have any now, he was going to find out what happened to Regulus one way or another.
