Loving is the easy part
Sirius p.o.v
“I have a bone to pick with you.” I yell after Remus as he stood up. The others quickly left us leaving us alone. Remus stopped walking away and kept rooted to his spot. “Turn around.” I tell him my voice noticeable angry “We are going to talk.”
“Sirius.” Remus sounds tired “Not now.”
“Yes now.” I walk over to him in order to face him “You were the one who said you wanted to discuss it later, well it is later.”
“You want to talk.” Remus his jaw flexed “Fine let’s talk, what were you thinking volunteering to go with me, we made a deal remember, you wouldn’t go off and act heroic.”
“Only if you promised not to do the same.” I throw my hands up in the air frustrated “You promised me and it only took you a day before you broke that promise.”
“Sirius, you’ve to understand that I need to do something to save the people I love, the home I grew up in and it’s people.”
“You are telling me I don’t understand?’ I felt myself getting angry again “Me, who sacrificed his youth in order to save one of the people I loved the most. If you really think that, then you don’t know me at all.”
“I know of your sacrificing tendicies Sirius.” He replies “I overheard you and James talking back in the earth kingdom about you giving up your life to save any of us, cause your brother would need us more.”
“I knew you were listening.” I cross my arms over my chest “If it bothers you so much then why did you think I would accept you volunteering to be the distraction.”
“You accepted Regulus being the bait.”
“No I don’t.” I narrow my eyes at him “But he is the avatar, he has to do this whether I like it or not.”
“So you don’t trust me? You don’t think I can do it?”
“That isn’t what I said.”
“it’s what you actions implied.”
“Remus.” I start feeling a bit guilty
“I can’t do this right now Sirius.” Remus answers “I need to focus on the mission.”
I scoff “sure walk away”
“Don’t follow me.” He tells me before walking off
“Are you okay?” James asks as I joined the others.
“How do you do it?” I question “How can you let Regulus go into danger if you love him.”
James sighs “It’s harder than you think, I want nothing more than him staying by my side all the time, to protect him from harm but I can’t. I won’t always be able to save him, he is the avatar, he is bound to face danger but I can be there for him when he needs me and right now he needs to do this. I do worry about him and I fear for his safety but I can’t let my worries hold him back.”
“Loving someone is hard.”
“Loving is the easy part.” James nudges me “The rest is what makes it difficult”
“I should apologize to Remus.”
“Let him cool down first.” James suggests “he will see that he wasn’t the most reasonable person as well.”
“You’re right.”
“Come on. Let’s get you some food.” He tells me “You have to eat something before we march into battle.”
