Remus p.o.v
“Okay what is going on with you and James?” I ask Regulus “Why are you guys ignoring eachother.”
“Remember that time I told you I wasn’t crushing on James.” He whispers
“Yes.” I couldn’t help but grin, knowing I was right all along about his crush on the prince.
He sighs “Well he might have seen me in an compromising position with Evan.”
“Compromising in which way?” I ask him, raising my eyebrow.
“Well Barty and Evan kind of wanted to tease James and let him walk in on Evan daring me to kiss him.”
“I see.” I shake my head amused “Those two really are trouble, so then what happened?”
“He left.” Regulus pulls his knees up to his chest “I couldn’t find James as I searched for him. Eventually I went to bed but I couldn’t sleep because I was worried about his whereabouts and then the next morning he acted like I was air.”
“Maybe he is waiting for you to explain the situation.” I suggest.
“But I did nothing wrong and he left without telling anyone where he went.” He puts his chin on his knees.
“Maybe but I think James has feelings about you as well and I think he misunderstood the situation what caused him heartbreak and made him run off.”
“You think so?” he looks up at me “You think he might return my feelings.”
“What happened about not crushing on him.” I nudge him
“You and I both knew I was lying.”
“Yes that’s true.” I smile at him “But yes I do think that is the case.”
“Barty and Evan told me to confess to James about how he makes me feel.”
“That is actually not bad advice.”
“Can I ask you another question?” he turns to me
“Of course.”
“Do you believe I am allowed to be happy, that I can have a future?” He asks his voice soft barely a whisper “Barty and Evan pointed out that I never do anything for myself, that I don’t indulge in my own wants and needs.”
“Look at me Regulus.” I tell him making the boy look at me and only then I realized just how young he actually has while carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders “You are the avatar, the master of all four elements, the bridge between our world and the spirit world You are destined to save the world and bring peace between the nations but how you will do that is up to you. You will shape your own destiny that includes the future you want to build for you and those you love. You might be the avatar but you are also still a human with his own thoughts, dreams and desires. You are allowed to think about what you want and act on it, to chase your own happiness.”
He looks at me with teary eyes “But what if I don’t make it, I’m in constant danger as the avatar if I let people in and they die because of me, I could never forgive myself.”
“Regulus listen to me, you will make it out of this war alive. I promise you that I will do everything in my power to ensure you survive, that we all survive and get to build a future.” I tell him determined “but do not let fear stop you from loving someone, isn’t it better to love someone for a short while than not at all. We are all in danger with the war going on but I won’t have the war stop me from finding my own happiness.”
“And are you happy?” he asks.
I blush looking at Sirius who was cuddling with Dorcas and James as they slept “I think I am.”
“My brother makes you happy?”
“More than you know.” I sigh softly “and I know James and you will be happy together aswell.”
“Thank you for listening to me Remus.” Regulus says “I needed to hear that.”
“Anytime, that is what friends are for.”
“I haven’t been feeling like such a good friend lately, I haven’t really talked to any of you while you all travel with me.”
“You are not a bad friend Regulus.” I reassure him “ You were building connections which you need as the avatar, no one thinks you have forgotten about us or traded us for your new swamp besties.”
“if you say so.” He answers even though I could see a small smile on his lips
“Is there anything more you want to talk about?” I ask him “I am all ears.”
“No, I think I told you about what was on my mind.”
“Good, so let’s get some rest before we reach Kyoshi.” I lay down “I can’t wait to get home.”
I turn to see Lily who had also fallen asleep letting Dobby be the one to fly us without guidance of his air bender trusting him to know the way. I softly petted his fur before trying to get some sleep as well.
