Chapter 21; October 31st, 1974
“James truth or dare?” Mary smiled, taking another swig of her drink, yelling to be heard over the music.
“Dare. I'm not a bitch.” He glared at Peter, who has only picked truth so far.
“Let Sirius bite your hand and see how long it takes you to tap out.”
“What?” Marlene asked, looking between Mary and James.
“Sirius bites hard. It’d be funny.” Mary laughed.
“But his hand? Honestly I feel bad for Sirius. Lily said his hands are always really sweaty.” Marlene shot back.
“He’s had worse in his mouth.” Remus shrugged, taking a hit of his second joint of the night.
“Moons…” Sirius paused, looking away from the group. “You can’t say things like that.”
“I’m not lying though.”
“Shut up.”
“I thought you liked my voice though?”
Sirius threw a pillow at his face, looking over at James.
“Fine.” James rolled his eyes, holding his arm out. Sirius bit the side of his hand, not trying to bite hard, but putting more pressure until he started reacting to it.
“You can bite harder than that.” Remus whispered in his ear, standing up to refill his drink. Sirius did bite harder, not intentionally. Remus has a way of doing that, Sirius doesn't realize what he’s doing until he’s doing it when Remus is around.
“Alright that's enough.” James announced, clenching his teeth and pulling his hand away, wiping it off on his pants. The side of his hand was red, Sirius couldn't tell if it was bleeding or not.
“Go wash your hand James. He broke skin, clean and cover it for a day or two so it wouldn't get infected.” Remus mumbled, sitting back down.
“Sorry.” Sirius said under his breath, moving closer to Remus.
“You wanna bite me like that later?” Remus smiled.
“Maybe.” He smiled back, kissing him quickly.
“Sirius!” Marelene yelled. “Truth or dare?”
“Truth.” He answered, not thinking about it.
“How long were you and Remus a thing before you told us?”
“It’s been a year now, yeah? Exactly a year.”
“Technically we weren’t…I don’t know…It’s uhm…Complicated?” Remus answered, smoking again.
“Yeah. I mean, we fucked the first time exactly a year ago, but we made it official this year. So it depends on the context I guess.”
Remus nodded, turning around to see who tapped on his shoulder as Sirius took another sip of his drink.
“I’ll be back in a minute. I love you.” Remus kissed him and walked away. Sirius watched him walk to the other side of the room, not knowing who he was with. He seemed annoyed at whoever it was.
“Hi Regulus! Truth or dare?” Mary asked.
“Dare?” He answered, looking at Sirius.
“You’re not dating anyone right?”
Regulus shook his head, looking around.
“Kiss James when he comes back.”
“What?”
“Lily said they broke up because he needed to figure out if he liked girls or not. Prove that he doesn’t so she can stop being miserable.”
Regulus rolled his eyes and sat down on the chair behind Sirius. “I don’t have a choice do I?”
“You can say no if you really don’t wanna do it.” Sirius answered, finishing the rest of his drink.
“No, I'll do it. I'm not a pussy.”
“Of course you will.”
Remus came back and sat down next to Sirius, putting an arm over his shoulders and kissing the side of his head. “Sorry. I had to deal with something.”
“What was it?” Sirius asked, focusing only on Remus and not the fact that they're in a room of drunk people all staring at them.
“Remember that girl from the start of term party? She’s mad at me because I kicked her out right after. She thought it was because I didn't want a relationship but now I'm with you and she’s mad about it.”
“She can go suck a dick honestly. I won. That's all I really care about.” Sirius smiled.
“Won what?”
“You.”
Remus rolled his eyes and settled down more. “You’re drunk. Shut up.”
“Make me?” He couldn't tell if it was a statement or a question.
“Later.”
James walked back downstairs, holding a bandage to his hand.
“Regulus.” Mary nodded.
He rolled his eyes and stood up grabbing James by the front of his shirt and kissing him. James tensed up at first, but almost immediately relaxed into him, wrapping his hands around his waist and Regulus’s hand tangled in his hair.
“When I said kiss I meant like a light peck or something. Not fucking snogging.” Mary slurred, looking over at Sirius and Remus.
“Bold tonight, yeah?” James laughed when they broke apart.
“Shut it Potter.” Regulus turned to walk away.
“Wait Reg. You can’t just kiss me like that and leave.” James whined, grabbing his arm.
“It was a dare Potter, and I don't want to snog you in front of my brother.” He pulled his arm away, holding eye contact with James. He’s never been good at eye contact, what was so different about James?
“Alright. Yeah that makes sense. Tell them all I said hi for me!” James called after him. Regulus flipped him off and kept walking.
Sirius rolled his eyes. “He seemed really into that for it only being a dare.”
“Padfoot aren’t you the one who told me he goes all out or nothing at all?” James asked, grabbing Sirius’s drink.
Sirius nodded. “Still. James remember how Evan mentioned Regulus having a ‘mystery boy’ that no one knows about?”
“Yeah? Why?”
“If you’re the mystery boy I’ll fucking kill you.”
“No he won’t.” Remus chimed in. “He’d be happy for you. He's just too cocky to realize it.”
“I am not cocky Remus. In fact I think I'd be the opposite.” Sirius crossed his arms.
“You’re drunk.” Remus rolled his eyes.
“And you’re high.” Sirius shot back.
“Fair point. Wanna go upstairs?”
“Absolutely.”
Remus grabbed his wrist and pulled him up, dragging him up the stairs, both of them laughing the whole time.
Sirius kissed him as soon as the door was closed, pushing him back against it. Remus flipped them around so it was Sirius against the door instead.
“Remember how you bit James?” Remus smiled, resting their foreheads together.
“Yeah. I don’t want to hurt you though.” Sirius mumbled.
“It’s alright. I asked you to, yeah? I’ll let you know if you go to far. Just stay away from my hip and It’ll be fine. Promise.”
Sirius nodded and kissed him again, locking the door just in case.
Sirius moved down to his jaw, biting slightly but not hard yet. He bit harder the farther down he moved, finding the sensitive spot on Remus’s collarbone. He didn’t break skin, but got close a few times, Remus seemed to be enjoying it though.
~~~
Sirius’s hair was messy, and their clothes were thrown around the room. Remus casted a cleaning charm and layed down on Sirius’s bed.
“Fuck, Sirius. I love you.”
“I love you too, moons.”
Sirius got his clothes back on and threw Remus’s at him, unlocking the door.
“Come here. I’m tired.” Remus complained, lifting one of his arms up.
“You can sleep without me there, you know that right?”
“Not as good. Come here.”
Sirius laughed and layed down next to him.
“Did you see Evan at all?” Sirius asked quietly.
“Yeah. He seemed a little out of it though. He was like sitting on the floor in the corner, staring at the ceiling. I knew he was awake but he didn’t seem fully conscious. I don't know if he was upset or really fucking drunk.” He shrugged
“Shit.” Sirius said under his breath, sitting up and fixing his hair.
“What? You okay?”
“He’s high. I think. They way you explained it. It’s the way he is when he’s high.”
“Come back soon though?” Remus mumbled.
“I’ll try.”
Regulus and Pandora were sitting at the couch that Sirius and Remus were on, Barty was leaning against the back of it. Sirius went the other way, knowing Evan would be smarter than stay by them if he had the choice. He was in the far corner, directly opposite from the drink table. Sirius kneeled down in front of him, putting a hand on his knee, making him flinch slightly.
“You alright Ev?” Sirius asked.
“I’ll be fine.” He looked away. He was pale and his eyes were glossy, the normal bright green looking more gray.
“God dammit Evan. Come upstairs with me, yeah? It’s quieter. It’ll help.”
Evan shook his head and pushed Sirius away. “I…” He paused. “I don’t want Barty to know.”
“I know. But I can't leave you here alone. I can tell him you’re drunk and wanna lay down if that would be better.” Sirius held his hand out.
Evan nodded and let Sirius help him up. “Just don’t let him follow.”
“I won't. Go to my room. I’ll be there in a minute.”
“Barty!” Sirius yelled as he got closer to them. “Evan blacked out, he's in my room.”
“Shit. Is he okay? I can go up there and bring him back to our dorm. He’s only drunk right? Do you know?”
“Barty calm down. I just told him to go up to my room. He’s fine. I can deal with it. You enjoy the party. I can handle him.” He turned to walk away.
“Sirius, wait!” He called after him. “You’re avoiding the question. He relapsed didn’t he?” His tone shifted. He was speaking quieter and was clearly upset.
“I’m dealing with it. He just wanted me to tell you where he is.”
Evan was leaning against the wall next to the door, slowly sliding down it. Sirius locked the door behind him, hoping it would keep Barty ou, at least for a little bit.
“Sorry.” Evan mumbled, clearly annoyed with himself.
“It’s okay Ev. You’ll get it eventually. This is just part of the process. What’d you take though? Just so I know how to help.” Sirius reassured, helping him over to Remus’s bed. Evan shook his head.
“Your boyfriend doesn't need to know all my personal shit, Black.”
“Moony. Please?” Sirius looked over at him.
“Yeah alright.” Remus shrugged, leaving the room, locking the door behind him.
“What’d you take?”
“The fuck you think?”
“Evan this isn't a fucking game. You take too much shit for me to guess.”
“The same shit it always is Sirius.”
“Right. So heroin?”
“God dammit you don’t have to say it out loud.” Evan rolled his eyes.
“Sorry. Do you need anything?” SIrius looked away. He was different when he’s high, he sounded like his father, and he always seemed mad about something.
“I’m fine. I’ll go back to my dorm and get out of your way.” He got up and walked towards the door.
“Ev hold on. Are you sure you’re okay enough to get back? And what about Barty? Won’t he find out?”
“It’ll be fine. He’s gonna find out anyway. Happy birthday kid.” He mumbled as he left.
There are still two days until Sirius’s birthday, but usually James makes plans and Sirius doesn't really see anyone else.
Sirius layed back on Remus’s bed. “Fuck.” He ran his hands over his face.
