When I Was Young

When I was young,
They used to ask me…
They used to ask me:
“If you had powers…”
No longer needing to wonder.
When I was young,
I dreamt of saving the world.
Helping the innocent,
Defeating the evil,
Getting the girl…
Protecting my city, my people,
Defending them from any threat.
When I was young,
I manifested my alter persona –
Donning some spandex and a cape,
Even a mask.
Saving the day!
No longer dreaming,
Now living.
Quiet as the night,
Fast as all light,
Disappearing into shadows,
Never turning down a fight.
Practically invisible,
Surprising my opponents,
Winning the battle.
When I was young,
They used to ask me…
