Vivat Regina

Katia grew up painfully aware of how exclusionary and elitist the lives of the wealthy were, anyone unfavourable to them or a threat to them got cut out, it's just the way things worked. She, however, did not expect her school house -Slytherin- to remind her so deeply of her childhood and home life, it was frankly a little bizarre.

She had been sorted by The Sorting Hat and had indulged lightly at that evening's feast, she kept a firm grip on her stoic expression, answered questions about her family in the manner in which she was taught, and displayed the sheer etiquette the entire night- her parents would have approved. After the feast, she remained close to the girls she had become acquainted with as they were led out of the great hall, the prefect led them through dark corridors, overcast with green ambient lighting, to the Slytherin common room.

The common room itself was a magnificent sight, the layout reminded her of many of her house's lounge rooms, its furnishings were in fashion and definitely not cheap, and the colour scheme, while adhering to the house colours, worked well with the large window-pane wall which emitted a cold coloured glow. The prefect briefly summarised the history of the house and informed them that their common room was located deep underground, while the prefect was doing this, Katia's attention was arrested by the sight of an assumedly seventh-year girl draped over the most lavish settee in the room, it looked almost like a throne, the girl was surrounded by similarly aged girls sat on comfortable stools.

"And that," the prefect supplied, "Is Venturia Serpen, Slytherin house's current Regina," the prefect winced when 'Venturia' glanced their way, "Vivat Regina."

Katia, who learned Latin thanks to her parent's insistence and great tutors, translated this saying easily as 'Long Live The Queen'.

"Audaces Fortuna Juvat," Venturia responded with a smirk.

Katia thought aloud, "Fortune favourz' zhe' bold?" Eyes seemed to fall on her, some in anger and some in shock- which was worrying because she didn't think she'd done anything too offending or revolutionary.

Venturia raised a perfectly plucked brow, regarding Katia with curious expression, "Yes, that is right. Tell me, first year, what is your name?"

"Katia Petrov," she replied shortly.

"Petrov? That's a pureblood Russian family."

"You seem vell' versed."

"Don't take that tone with the Regina," one of the girls on the stools sneered, "and don't speak out of turn either."

"You. Are currently the only one speaking out of turn," Venturia stated.

"But- I... I was just telling her-"

"And If I needed you to do so, I would have asked."

"I am sorry but-"

Venturia raised a manicured hand to the girl's face, "And now you have gotten on my last nerve, switch with Katia."

The girl seemed to want to say more but she bit her tongue, she offered Katia a scathing look before running up to her dorm. Katia was still somewhat confused by all of this but went to sit by Venturia's side when she patted the now empty stool beside her.

The older girl stroked her blonde hair, circling a strand around her finger, "You have alot of potential-"

"My name is Draco Malfoy," Draco randomly spoke up, his confidence was instantly shut down by the several glares sent his way.

"Anyway, I hope you can be an aid at my side," Venturia grinned her ruby lips, "my rule has been just and peaceful, I could offer you help whenever you need it and protection, Katia. What do you say?"

Katia smiled, "Vivat Regina."
