Banter with friends
Dazai for once, decided that hanging out in the Slytherins common rooms wouldn’t be too bad, and it wasn’t.
Most Slytherins were out and about the Hogwarts campus and the people that were left in the common room wouldn’t bother Dazai.
Especially since he had Blaise and Draco with him.
They sat huddled near the fire, Dazai expressing his distaste for warmth but still stayed close to the fire.
It reflected in his eye and made it shine red. A disturbing trick of the light to anyone that wasn’t Blaise or Draco.
Dazai peeked over Blaise or Draco’s shoulder to take a look at their homework, it was incredibly boring and Dazai found it was also to easy; he did not fail to mention it out loud.
“Homework is sooo easy and boring I don’t understand why you to bother.” He whined and draped himself his chair by the fire dramatically.
Blaise chuckled behind his hand at the display while Draco scoffed, “Well, some of us are actually trying to pass the year idiot, if you don’t do your work don’t cry about it to me.” Draco says with a huff, making eye contact with Dazai for a moment before looking back down at his homework.
“Draco’s so meannn” Dazai whined again and turned to Blaise.
“Blaiseeee help me out, Draco’s being meannn”
He pleads with his friend on the right of him.
“Draco does kind of have a point, sorry Boss.”
Blaise says as he looks up from his work to talk to Dazai.
“Hah see!” Draco says proudly, “Blaise agrees with me!”
Dazai pouts and whines “You guys are ganging up on me, no fairrrr.” He says as he sniffles and wipes a fake tear from his eye.
“Oh cut it with the act, it’s getting annoying Dazai.” Draco sighs and continues to write on his paper.
At that, Dazai quiets down and settles for staring at the fire again, it was pretty the way it shown and flickered every second.
Each movement of the flames unpredictable, it was what made fire so interesting to Dazai.
He focuses on it, trying to predict where it will flicker next, but as mentioned before, it was unpredictable so his efforts were pretty much useless.
Soon he realized that looking at the fire, made him tired, perhaps it was the warmth that he had claimed to hate earlier.
It felt nice to be warm he guesses as he closes his eye.
_____
Draco was surprised when Dazai had shut up when he had basically told him to, and was even more surprised to see that when he looked up to check in on his bandaged friend; he was curled up and now asleep in his chair.
“How does he keep doing that?” Draco asks and Blaise looks up at him and then looks at Dazai.
“What do you mean?” He replies in a quiet voice, which he assumes is because he doesn’t want to wake up Dazai so he does the same and lowers his voice.
“How does he keep falling asleep? He just fell asleep in the gang room a couple hours ago!” He whisper shouts at Blaise.
He receives a shrug “I don’t know, I’m guessing he’s sleep deprived in some sort of way.” He mumbles quietly.
“Oh, that makes sense.” Draco says and that’s the end of their conversation until a few minutes later when Draco asks Blaise a question.
“Should we wake him up? We don’t want him to miss dinner.” He asks.
“I don’t know, I have a feeling he’ll be cranky if we wake him up now, let’s let him sleep for a bit longer; He isn’t doing any harm.” Blaise replies a soft smile on his face as he looks down at Dazai.
“I guess…” Draco replies as he looks down at dazai as well, a faint smile tugging at his lips as he sees his friend looking so peaceful.
_____
Blaise watches as Dazai’s chest rises and falls peacefully, both him and Draco had finished their homework a bit ago and settled into a comfortable silence.
Draco was reading a book and Blaise was watching his bandaged friend sleep, not in a creepy way, he was just worried about him.
Because that’s what Blaise does, he worries about Dazai, and frankly he worries too much; but that won’t ever stop him, just like he can’t ever stop Dazai from getting into mischief.
______
Dazai woke up after about a half hour, his neck hurt from the way he had slept, curled up in his place by the fire.
The fire was slowly going out, there were more embers than flames.
“Urghh, my neck hurtsss..” Dazai whines as he rubs the back of his neck and blinks the lingering sleep out of his eyes.
Draco turned to him slightly surprised he was awake already, he put his bookmark in his book before he closed it as he sighed.
“Well that’s what happens when you sleep in the weirdest position ever idiot.”
Dazai rolls his eyes at Draco’s words “You’re so mean to me Draco.” Dazai says with a pout.
Draco rolls his eyes and opens his mouth to talk again. “I’m just stating the facts.”
Blaise decides that it’s a good time now to but into the conversation. “We thought we were going to have to wake you up so you could go to dinner with us, but you woke up all on your own.” He says, trying to shift the conversation.
“Were you worried I was going to be cranky?” Dazai asks curiously.
“Yeah, we wer-“
“Blaise was, I wasn’t worried at all!” Draco says with a huff.
“Anyways,” Blaise side-eyes him before turning back to Dazai, “I was worried you would be annoyed at us for waking you up, you’ve been sleeping a lot today.”
Dazai smiles widely, “Aw, Blaise!” He starts and leans over his chair to look at him closer, wincing slightly at the twinge he gets in his neck from the movement.
“You’re too kind to me! This is why you’re my second in command!!” He chirps before sitting normally in his chair.
“Oh please, Blaise is just being himself, it’s nothing special Dazai.” Draco says rejoining the conversation.
“I don’t care! He’s still being kind!” Dazai chirps.
Blaise chuckles and is too amused to try and stop the argument between the two that forms over whether Blaise is kind or not.
“You guys fight like brothers, it’s always stupid little fights over things that are meaningless.” Blaise says after a few minutes of fighting.
Draco stutters and falls silent, his eyes wide and cheeks slightly flushed in embarrassment.
Dazai snickers at his facial expression then opens his mouth to say “Ew! I would never want Draco as my brother, he's too mean!”
“W-what?!” Draco kind of shrieks.
“You heard me!” Dazai says as he sticks out his tongue at Draco, “You’re too mean for me to want you as a brother, if you were kinder maybe I would.” He says with a huff and he crosses his arms. Then turns his head away from Draco.
Blaise sighs at the display, “You two are going to be the death of me I swear.”
Dazai gasps and snaps his head to Blaise. “No! Don’t die Blaise!” Dazai whines at him.
