Morning Announcement
Severus Snape sat in the Principle's office alongside his fellow third year classmate, Hiragi Toma. "You seen Umemiya today?" Hiragi prompted as they waited for their leader to turn up for the first morning announcement of the new school year.
"Not since I saw him heading to the roof at about eight this morning." Severus replied. "He's probably weeding or watering something. You know how he gets about the garden."
"Tsk." Hiragi sighed and popped the foil wrapping of his tablets before throwing them into his mouth. "Trust him to be late on the first day." He chewed the tablets before turning to Severus and asking, "So, I heard you finally took some time off to relax. What you get up to?"
"Oh, my nanna and I went up to Okinawa with some of her friends from bingo." Severus explained. "We did the whole tourist thing, visited the aquarium, the botanical gardens, Shuri Castle, smashing watermelons on the beach-" He then snapped his finger as he remembered something, "That reminds me, Momose told me it's traditional here that when you go away on holiday, you're suppose to bring back gifts. So, I got you guys something each, along with some chinsuko."
"Sounds like you actually had fun, for a change." Hiragi observed with a smirk.
"Yeah, it was pretty relaxing." Severus shrugged before a shadow fell over his face. "Mostly..."
"Mostly?"
"I envy you Hiragi, you'll probably never know the soul crushing pain of getting your arse handed to you by three old ladies in a game of mahjong."
They were abruptly brought out of their conversation as the office door opened and Umemiya Hajime stepped inside with broad grin on his face. "Good morning, gentlemen."
"What time do you call this?" Hiragi demanded.
"Huh, that's a point." Umemiya hummed and cupped his chin with his hand. "What time is it anyway?"
"It's ten past nine, already." Severus signed. This was their fearless leader and the head of Bofurin, and while Severus held a lot respect for his old friend, the man needed a swift kick in the pants sometimes.
"I got first years waiting to go on their first patrol and Doc's suppose to be giving them their first physical exam." Hiragi expressed in annoyance.
"Right, right." Umemiya nodded and pushed the intercom button, causing an earsplitting screech to come out of the over head speakers in the hallway.
"EVERYONE! CONGRATULATIONS ON MAKING IT IN TO THIS SCHOOL!"
"Stop yelling, you're already loud." Hiragi complained.
"You're gonna burst their eardrums, you dunderhead." Severus scolded, clamping his hands over his own ears.
"Oh but it was so quiet to begin with." Umemiya said in confusion before clearing his throat and continued his announcement. Severus could already tell this was going to be a long day.
