A Soft Moment
Techno hummed softly to himself as he glanced into the living room where Dawn was sitting on the couch with Ezran who was showing her his drawings. They had already taken care of her wound which thankfully hadn’t been as bad as it looked but Sally had insisted that she stay for a little bit longer to recover from the blood loss as did look a bit too pale.
He couldn’t quite get a feel for the woman, she seemed calm and gentle but there was a certain aura that surrounded her that made Techno think that there was something hidden about her.
“She seems like quite the sweetheart, huh?” Sally remarked in amusement as she came to stand next to him to which he just grunted unimpressed.
“Have you learned anything about her?” He asked as he turned to face his sister who pursed her lips in thought as she fiddled with an old frayed wallet.
“I haven’t done any extensive research but I can tell you that her name is Dawn Inanis, she’s 22 and her birthday is March 20” She explained and Techno grunted a little unimpressed.
“That’s it?” He questioned and Sally huffed as she flipped the wallet open.
“That’s all I could learn from her wallet” She grumbled as she showed Techno the wallet which only had a driver's license and a debit card.
“How’d you get her wallet anyway? She doesn’t seem like the type you could pickpocket” He questioned which earned him an amused grin from Sally.
“I offered to wash her shirt and sweater for her since it’s covered in blood and she left this in the pocket” She explained simply as she closed the wallet and Techno grunted in understanding.
“Ezran seems to have grown attached” Sally remarked and Techno turned to look back in the living room and saw that Ezran had stopped showing off his drawings and instead was very enthusiastically telling some kind of story while Dawn listened with a soft look in her eyes that kind of reminded him of Elowen.
“He has” He grunted simply and Sally hummed before walking into the room with a slight smile on her face. Ezran stopped his story to give her a hug which she returned as she sat on the couch before turning her attention to Dawn, who looked rather adorable in her old blue knit sweater that she had given her to wear.
“Here I noticed it in your sweater pocket when I was putting it in the wash” She said as she handed the blonde her wallet.
“Thanks, I forgot I left it in my sweater” She said in relief as she slipped it into her pants pocket.
“Sally I was just telling Dawn about how Theo and I snuck a bunch of frogs into school” Ezran suddenly chimed in and Sally laughed, that day had been absolute chaos especially when Gabriel backhanded the teacher who had the nerve to raise a hand to Theo.
“It sounds like pure chaos” Dawn remarked in fond amusement and Sally snorted in agreement.
“It really was, though I think the time Ezran brought an army of raccoons to school might have been worse” She commented offhandedly which made Dawn’s grin grow.
“An animal lover huh?” She remarked as she glanced at Ezran who nodded rapidly.
“Raccoons and frogs are the very bestest” He stated seriously and Dawn chuckled warmly.
“I’ve always had a fondness for cats myself” She said fondly and Ezran glanced up at her with big eager eyes.
“Do you have a cat?” He asked eagerly and a sad look appeared in Dawn’s eyes.
“I would love to have one but I just can’t afford to take care of one right now” She explained gently and Ezran nodded softly in understanding.
“Techno has two dogs and their food costs so much” He commented and Dawn chuckled fondly.
“I bet it is” She said fondly and Ezran nodded once again before cuddling into Dawn’s non-injured side.
“I’m sure you’ll get to have a cat someday” He mumbled sleepily and a warm smile appeared on Dawn’s face as she gently ran her fingers through the younger blonde's hair lulling him to sleep.
“I wanted to thank you again for protecting him” Sally said softly as she stared at the woman before her with a gentle smile on his face, there was just something so warm and genuine about the woman that she kinda reminded her of Faybelle. But even the thought of her made her heart twist in pain so she quickly pushed that thought away.
“All my self-preservation kinda flew out the window when I saw those thugs surrounding him but I would never regret my decision” Dawn remarked softly and Sally hummed thoughtfully.
“Even though you got stabbed?” She asked which earned her a soft chuckle from Dawn.
“I’ve dealt with much worse, besides I’d rather be the one stabbed than a kid” She remarked and Sally nodded in agreement.
“Ezran tends to mess with people he shouldn’t so I can’t even tell you the number of times Techno and I have had to get him out of trouble” She said in amusement as she reached over to run her fingers through Ezran’s hair.
“He’s lucky to have such strong people protecting him” Dawn said softly as she glanced at her with such warm eyes that it made Sally’s heart flutter, however, there was also a certain level of sadness in the woman’s eyes that made her curious.
“Hey, Cyrus is getting dinner should I tell him to get extra for blondie?” Techno questioned as he poked his head into the room with his phone pressed to his ear.
“Oh don’t trouble yourself with me, I really should be getting home anyways I don’t want to be any more of a bother” Dawn quickly said but Sally just shook her head.
“Tell him to get extra” She stated and Techno nodded before leaving the room.
“You don’t have to do that” Dawn said seriously but Sally just gave her a comforting smile.
“Nonsense, your clothes won’t be dry for a while so you’ll have to stay and it would be rather rude to eat in front of you” She pointed out and Dawn went to argue but was cut off by her stomach growling loudly which made her flush in embarrassment.
“I think your stomach has decided for you” Sally pointed out in amusement and Dawn huffed as she pouted indignantly which just made Sally chuckle as she reached forward to ruffle her hair fondly, she was adorable.
