Nerds
After Hermione declared that they could already go to the leaky cauldron due to her only needing something small, only Miss Weasley and Dazai were left standing beside her. Originally Ron and the twins wanted to stay too but Miss Weasley said that the store would would be overfilled and sent them away. Looking at the store, Dazai realised that it was indeed a very small store and it didn't look like a store Hermione would go to. When he looked at the signs he actually realised that it was a children's clothing store...wait...they were children. He sometimes forgot that he was, defined by the law, a child. The store's name was Pettichat, a strange name really.
They stepped into the store and Dazai immediately knew which item Hermione laid her eyes on. In the last corner of the store, between all of the tightly organized clothes there was a small section of fancy accessories like bowties, keychains, necklaces and bracelets. The item of Hermione's desire was most likely a scarlet bowtie with golden stripes at the ends and red lace. The lace didn't seem much like Hermione's taste but the rest looked really classy and definitely prettier than the usual bowties of the Hogwarts uniform. Hermione stalked towards it and grabbed the bowtie while Dazai followed behind.
"What do you think of it, Dazai? Doesn't it look gorgeous! I saw it while walking to Flourish and Blotts and it directly caught my attention. "
Her eyes sparkled up with excitement while she looked at Dazai.
"It does look beautiful, it also matches the colour of your school uniform quite well"
"That was actually my intent, thank you"
Hermione looked cheerful and her entire presence gleamed of pure joy.
On the same stand as the bowtie there was a really pretty golden necklace with a ruby. It seemed to be completely out of place in this rather cheap looking store. It matched the Gryffindor colour theme and Dazai thought about buying it for a few seconds but at the end he decided against it. Hermione was already at the cash register while Dazai was still looking at the necklace. Upon noticing this he quickly walked to her and looked at the cashier's hands that were carefully wrapping her bowtie up.
The cashier was quite nice so that Hermione and her chitchatted about everything and nothing, just useless stuff like the weather or something like that. The cashier didn't seem to talk to people often, she greatly enjoyed company and so they ended up talking for over ten minutes even though Hermione had received her purchase long ago. She looked over to Miss Weasley only to realise that she was growing impatient, she wouldn't admit it if you had asked her but you could tell by her body language and by the way her eyes skimmed from place to place.
The Gryffindor made quick business of saying goodbye to the cashier and rushing towards the door, Dazai still following closely. Miss Weasley looked at them with a content smile right after they stepped out of the store. The rest of the walk to the leaky cauldron was silent, well except the loud chatter that came from the busy streets. It had become evening already, that's why the sky was a dark blue, a few almost black stripes and a few clouds making it seem quite mysterious. The night sky will be very beautiful with the dark colours bringing a contrast to the bright gold of stars.
When they arrived everybody else was in their rooms already, so Miss Weasley told them to rest a bit before dinner. Oh yes, one of the few things he didn't miss during summer break: food or more accurately everybody telling him to eat food. They were all worrying about nothing but telling them that was pointless. He was laying on his bed, looking at the blank ceiling above him. He needed to plan out for this school year. There were, once again, many things Mori didn't let him in on. For example, how much of Snape's memory had been erased? Because depending on that it could raise questions amongst his colleagues and that wasn't something Dazai had planned on.
Damn Mori!He was really a pain. As much as he hated it, he'll have to wait. Just when he wanted to get up and look if dinner was ready, Hermione's footsteps were in the hallway and he decided to walk in her direction. He didn't really think this situation through which he noticed when Hermione almost fell over when she saw him standing right in the entrance after she opened the door. " Jeez, Dazai. You really scared me", she breathed out heavily. It took a few seconds for her to steady her breath but when she did, she immediatly said what Dazai thought she would say :" Dinner is ready! Will you come too?" He really didn't want to but he knew that at least one of them would force him in the end so there really wasn't any use hiding. He sighed
The dinner was horrible but he got out of it halfway through when he said that he needed to go to the restroom and didn't return. Now he was laying on his bed, the only noise being Featherbrain's horrible screaching. She already brought a pile of mice for him. They were probably in the sewer before the owl got them considering the awful smell that definetly didn't only come from them being dead for over a day. Dazai knew that smell all too well and it wasn't as horrible.
Dazai was so in thought he didn't notice the nearing footsteps. He only started looking up when she opened the door. Without a warning she closed the door behind her and plopped next to Dazai on his bed. "Ron is really impossible." Was this about Ron? She usually wouldn't be so impolite to just go into someone's room without asking even when she had a fight with the red head. No, there must be something more to it.
"He really knows nothing about you!" So this was about him then. Interesting.
"Can you believe his idiocy?"
"What did he do this time? Didn't read a book?"
"No, don't joke about it like that. But he should really stop making his idiotic speculations. Does he think he's being funny?" Hermione kept on ranting about Ron with such anger you could think he had murdered her entire family.
After almost half an hour she finally finished cursing out Ron, really it was remarkable how much you could speak about someone purely cause he annoys you. He would have given up after two minutes.
"I'm sorry you had to hear me for so long. He just annoys me so much. But hey I should stop talking about him, so what do you think of this new teacher? I think he looks rather interesting."
"Yeah, I'm sure he will be fun to annoy!"
"Dazai! Stop messing with your teachers! We don't need you expelled. You've been so close the past years and I don't want you to go away!"
"Awww 'mione cares about me, how flattering!" Hermione's face flushed a deep red you could even see while she tried to hide it behind her hands.
"Of course I care about you! You're a friend after all. "
It was really easy to make her flustered, he could quite literally make her blush by just giving her a compliment. He supposed that was because she didn't get compliments very often, most likely because she didn't have many friends. The gang also only hung out with her when she was part of a plan, except for maybe Ron.
"Dazai, there's a question I've been meaning to ask for a really long time but I wasn't sure if it would be offensive. May I ask you something?"
"Of course 'mione"
"Do you sometimes have trouble with English?"
He blinked. Now that wasn't a question he had expected. Especially not after two years of knowing eachother.
"I just mean because Japanese is so different, it even has a different alphabet. I mean I don't want to doubt your intellect by all means and I'm not saying that you wouldn't be smart enough just-", Dazai interrupted her with a snap before she could start talking even faster.
"Relax, 'mione. It's a valid question. But I would consider myself rather fluid in English. I mean sometimes I forget words too but I do that in Japanese too,so"
Hermione looked happy with that answer
"You're truly a remarkable person, Dazai. I want to try to learn new languages too! It must be exciting"
"What do you think, is there some kind of secret wizard language too?", Dazai asked her.
The thought of that had Dazai's skin prickling. A whole new language for him to discover. Maybe Mori could get on some more information with that.
"I've been wondering about that too, you see. Such a large group as the wizarding community surely they must have some sort of communication that varies from muggles but I was surprised to find out they don't."
Now he was disappointed.
He already planned out on how to overthrow the government even faster. What a bummer.
"Wizards are all over the world so they speak the language from wherever they come from. I still think that sounds weird but I think we would have known about it since we're in the magical community for over two years so it is quite logical."
She was right. With all of the research he'd done and him being in this environment for quite some time he would have already noticed if there was a whole new language.
"The most interesting thing for me is that all of the spells have Latin origins. I know that wizards have lived for a long time but did they also exist at that time? And how did wizards even know they were wizards? How did this while concept even happen?", Dazai started asking then.
Hermione was excited to share her thoughts about all of the questions. Dazai finally understood what had Mori so thrilled about the magical community.
If anybody would have walked in on them they would probably assume they were talking about some game theory but he couldn't even tell them they were wrong. All of this seemed so surreal, talking about it just like that. As strange as this was they were both having the time of their life. They may have discussed a few themes in the library but this was different, they both sounded like complete nerds while talking.
Dazai didn't know how long they had been talking for but it was already in the middle of the night but it felt like they had only talked for a few minutes. Hermione had fallen asleep beside him just moments ago.
Dazai still wondered what Ron could have said about him to make Hermione so mad...but that could wait. The only thing that was important was to close his eyes.
