Chapter 4
Minerva walked in circles around her office, staring straight at the floor. It was silent, all silent. No Albus to say wise words, no Pomfrey to complain about Albus.
To hell with it ! Not even Severus was here. He had gone to his home over the summer break but usually he would be around at this time already. Severus had acted strange the last time she saw him. At the end of the school year he had rushed out without explanation and when he came back he was.....strange. Almost as if he would have amnesia or something like that. Under normal circumstances she would have told Pomfrey to talk to him but....
She didn't want to think about it. Her whole world had basically crushed down in the timespan of barely a few months. Two of the wisest people who she had cherished the most had died and she had no idea what to do. She should know what to do, that was her job after all.
But she didn't.
And that simple fact somehow threw her off so much.
All of that and she still couldn't decide whether to keep the demon student or not. The most rational decision and the decision almost everyone expected from her was certainly to kick him out but Pomfrey had given so much to protect this child. She wanted to have this child as her own, wanted to be a mother to him.
She would have been a good mother no doubt.
If only she hadn't......
It was unfair! It was so so unfair! One of the kindest people to exist on this earth and still she had to suffer.
She wanted to keep this child and so did Minerva.
If Pomfrey wholeheartedly believed in the good of this child then so would Minerva. As irrational as it was she had to make sure that he was safe. For Pomfrey, for her sanity and to proof a point to Albus.
As childish as it was she didn't want Albus to be right just this once. She didn't want to accept that this kid was nothing against some stupid 'bigger picture'.
Because Pomfrey believed he was more and with all surrounding him he certainly was more than an ordinary child. Before she could sink into thoughts even further, there was a knock on the door.
Of course! She still had an appointment.
She couldn't let herself get distracted from her job. Charlie Weasley was standing right Infront of her, fiddling with his hands. He looked unsure of what to do.
"Ah, Mister Weasley it's nice of you to come so fast. I hope you weren't doing anything important."
"It's quite alright, Miss. I'm always happy to help out. I assume this is about egg?"
"Indeed it is. Do you have any new information regarding the manner? It's been quite the time since our last meeting."
"Well, you see this connection is very rare as I already mentioned multiple times before. Therefore I couldn't find much about the topic. All together I don't think we will achieve any kind of success if I don't talk to Dazai. He may know at least something. Bonding is something that deeply depends on the person the dragon bonds with"
She sighed, "I understand. Maybe you and Mister Dazai can talk once he's at Hogwarts again"
She let out a grunt and let herself fall into her chair. She was exhausted already and it was barely afternoon. Why couldn't it just be easy?
"Not to interrupt, Miss but I'm sure this isn't the only reason you called me here, is it?"
"Quite observant, Mister Weasley. Since you'll be staying at Hogwarts this year I have a favour to ask of you."
"And that would be?"
"I want you to keep an eye on Mister Dazai"
She looked into his eyes, dead serious.
"I'm not sure I understand, Miss."
"Why, Mister Dazai has a lot surrounding himself even apart from the dragon. I want someone to look after him and keep him from trouble. I want Mister Dazai to stay at this school for as long as possible."
"I see. I can't promise anything but I'll try my best, miss." He smiled in her direction.
"Thank you Mister Weasley. It really means a lot to me.
You can go to the room we have prepared for you. I hope you will be comfy in your room."
"Ah yes, thank you. I will try my best not to disappoint throughout the year."
Charlie bowed respectfully and left the room.
Now Minerva was alone with her thoughts again.
God how she despised her thoughts...
Snape was sitting on the couch, skipping through a book about potions. He already read all of his books a million times but he just didn't know what else to do.
Everything had been going to shit lately.
First Pomfrey died and then he just let Dazai go home again. For god's sake ! If there was one thing Pomfrey had tried to achieve it was getting this kid out of there.
She could have done so much for him if only she had had more time.
He should‘ve done so much fucking more.
But he didn‘t.
Why didn‘t he?
The last weeks– no not weeks, months felt like a nightmare with everything that had been going on.
The worst of all, he did not remember the last weeks of the school year. Minerva had to tell him everything with Dazai and the basilisk.
He was tired, so goddamn tired.
How could he live knowing that he failed at the one thing his best friend, his dead best friend, had asked of him.
The one thing Both of them had spend so much time on Building a plan for it.
He hated himself for this
Why could he Not do this one simple thing?
Everything had gone exactly according to his plan.
Pomfrey was dead, Dumbledore was dead and Snape was lacking on some pretty important Information.
And the best of all, he didn‘t even Need to do anything, the demon Student and his companions had done it all for him.
Hogwarts was weaker than ever and he would use that to his advantage. Not at the Moment though, he still had some stuff to finish and perhaps it would be Best to just lay low and watch .
The Weasley kid was a Great entry possibility into Hogwarts and also close aquaintanced with Shuuji.
With the Port Mafia Not knowing his Location and therefore off of his back, he had all of the Peace neccassary to start planning out the year.
His original plan was to get Shuuji on his side but after he had Seen his conversation with Quirrel, he doubted that it would be as easy as he thought. He will get there though, maybe it will take a while but the kid will See which side is the best to take.
And if he won‘t See it by himself, he‘ll just make him See it.
Dazai couldn‘t shake the feeling, that someone was watching him He didn’t close his eye that Night.
