Explanations Part 1
Pansy had helped Dazai up and to stop his bloody nose. However, all the while, Dazai was trying to wrap his brain (currently working at 50% due to lack of sleep, food, and the magic overload) around what Pansy had said.
"Dazai, I don't think we are in our world anymore." Repeated in Dazai's brain over and over again until he fully grasped the meaning of the words.
"What?" He finally spit out. Pansy looked at him with a raised brow.
"What What?"
"I- first of all, that doesn't make any sense, and second, what do you mean 'We aren't in our world'?" That just wasn't possible. Even if he had thought that magic hadn't existed until a couple years ago, he would know if dimensional travel was possible.
The playful tone that Dazai had had just a few hours earlier seemingly evaporated. Replacing it, was an atmosphere of rare seriousness (for Dazai, at least) from both parties.
"First, I want you to tell me what that was." Pansy made a very vague hand motion that seemed to be referring to Dazai, in a less than pleasant way.
"What do you mean, that?" Dazai copied her hand motion in mockery.
Pansy grew frustrated. "You suddenly looked like you were about to faint or pass out!"
In his defense, he probably was. But Pansy barely stopped to catch her breath before continuing.
"You grabbed my hand with no warning, and promptly fell onto the ground with a bloody nose that came out of nowhere! Explain that to me." Pansy demanded.
"I felt a wave of magic. I don't know what it was, but it was heading straight for us." Dazai said after a moment of hesitation.
"That..Actually explains a lot."
"How does that explain anything?"
"Doesn't matter."
"Doesn't- whatever. I don't need to know. What I do need to know is why you suddenly think we are in a different world."
"I don't think that we are, I know that we are."
Dazai rolled his eyes. "Yeah yeah. Just tell me why."
"Ugh. Fine. Memories started flooding my head the moment I let go of your hand."
"About what?"
"Another world. One where you don't exist."
"You sure that isn't your imagination?"
Pansy knew that she once imagined that, but she also knew this wasn't her imagination.
"Ha ha. Very funny." She said in a sarcastic tone. "But no. In this world, you were replaced."
"Oh, who could ever replace me? The Great Osamu Dazai, the feared Demon Student?"
Pansy rolled her eyes at that. "The Boy Who Lived."
"And who is that?"
"His name is Harry Potter. He's supposed to be dead in our world. That's how I know this world isn't ours."
"And why do you think he is supposed to be dead?"
"Obviously because it's impossible to survive the killing curse."
...Yeah. For everyone except me. Dazai couldn't help but think.
"So he was shot with a killing curse and died, in our world, according to you. How pathetic. But why do you know that information?"
"His story is famous. In both our world and this one. The only reason you don't know about it is because there wasn't really any reason for anyone to care." It was harsh, she knew, but it was true. No body really cared that Harry Potter had died as a baby. He was honored as a hero for 2 years, before everyone sort of forgot about him.
"As you know, You-Know-Who was-"
"You mean Voldemort?"
Pansy flinched at Dazai so carelessly saying the Dark Lord's name. "You can't just-"
Dazai stared at Pansy with an unimpressed look.
"Fine. Whatever. He attacked the Potter family because of a prophecy. In this world, he killed the entire Potter family, and when he tried to finish off Harry Potter, the killing curse rebounded and killed him."
"Oh? And exactly how did he do that?" Pansy glared at him.
"And just how am I supposed to know that?"
"It was just a question."
"A stupid one. Let me finish my story."
"Yeah yeah. Whatever. Continue."
"As I was saying, our world was a bit different. You-Know-Who, DO NOT INTERRUPT ME!" Pansy said when Dazai opened his mouth. He shut it immediately after with a shrug.
"He killed the Potter family in a different order. He killed Harry first. Don't know how, don't know why. Or why Neville survived."
"Hold up! What's that about Neville?"
"Oh. Right. The prophecy. So, the prophecy was something about parents surviving the Dark Lord-"
"God, what a cringe worthy name."
"Shut up!"
Dazai rolled his eyes.
"Surviving the Dark Lord 7 times." She held up 7 fingers. "Both the Neville and Harry's parents fit the bill for that. But not really what I am trying to get at. Nothing changed about Neville. Like, at all."
"So he's still a wimp?"
"And a crybaby. But yes, and not the point. The Dark Lord was apparently killed because someone dodged a killing curse, and it hit a mirror. The Dark Lord had finally killed all the Potters, when the spell hit him."
"And what about Quirell?" Pansy was confused on why he asked about Quirell.
"Nothing changed. He was a Death Eater and he died."
Dazai stood up from the couch, leaning forward almost too far and falling, but he steadied himself just in time. "Voldemort's alive."
"Stop saying his name!"
"Crybaby."
"Shut up! But what makes you think he is alive?"
"I lied a bit during my testimony about killing Quirell."
"Huh?"
"So, Quirell tried go recruit me as a Death Eater, and when I refused, he took off his turban. On the otherside of his head was the face of Voldemort."
Pansy looked horrified. "That's...If I didn't believe you, I would think you were trying to tell a ghost story."
"Shut up."
