Chapter 1
Magic and Mystery, year 3, so that I don't have to silently cry.
Blaise had fun the last time he saw Dazai, unburdened by the guilt of killing 4 people. And his lingering feelings lasted for a long while. Even as he waited for his parents with the gang. As he was going home with his parents. As he was eating with his parents. Even as he went about his day. However, his delusion came crashing down when he went fo bed.
Darkness was all he could see. Then, suddenly, the scene went to the underground chamber. He saw the basilisk, dead. Lockhart had his wand pointing at its body with a triumphant smile on his face. The basilisk's body flashed with Dazai, Dazai replacing the basilisk. Dazai. dead.
Blaise's eyes widened. Lockhart, hovering over Dazai's body, his wand pointing and Dazai's lifeless body with a smile. Lockhart's smile seemed more sinister than it had when he was pointing the wand at the basilisk. Blaise ran to Dazai. He didn't notice Lockhart disappearing.
"Dazai!" He exclaimed. He picked up Dazai's body. It was light. Too light. The blood coming from Dazai's body covered Blaise's hands, but he didn't care. Blaise was too concerned with Dazai to even care. "Dazai. Dazai, please wake up." Blaise said, a hopelessness peeking into his voice. He kept trying and trying to wake Dazai up, until finally, he opened his eyes.
Blaise woke up with a gasp, sitting up as he did so. He breathed heavily. "That...that was just a dream. Yeah... Just a dream." His voice had a tone of despair and hopelessness filled in it, as if trying to convince himself of something that isn't true, when he, deep down, knew it was. No. "That dream was what could have happened. We avoided it. Yeah. We...I didn't let that happen." Blaise told himself. That was at midnight. He didn't get anymore sleep. (In fear that he will have another dream about that.)
Blaise had written Dazai a letter at 1 in the morning. He snuck out of his room, and found their family owl, Herbin. On the way there, Blaise couldn't help but think that Dazai would have given Herbin a nickname. Something like Hen, or Herb, and then add an insult of some kind. He chuckled softly to himself. Blaise didn't have an owl himself, so he would have to settle with Herbin.
"Herbin, can you take this letter to Yokohama?" Blaise asked the owl. The owl took one look at Blaise, before hooting and turning away. "Please Herbin. I need to send this letter to-" Herbin hooted, sounding annoyed. "I know, I know. Yokohama is far, but I know you can do it. Please. I'm begging you. I..I need to know that he's okay. The last time he went home, he came back without his eye. I'm afraid that something like that might happen, or worse. Please Herbin." The owl hooted again, before snatching the letter out of Blaise's hand. "Thank you."
After that, Blaise was paranoid the rest of the day. Even when he was eating dinner with his parents. "Blaise, you seem..off today. Is something the matter?" Blaise flinched, not expecting to be addressed directly. "Ah, sorry. What is it that you asked? I..zoned out." His mother frowned. "You have been zoning out all day. Since you have sat down at this table, you haven't participated in any conversation with us. Did the fact that you won't see your friends for a month or so finally kick in?" "A month? Are we not going to the Malfoy Winter Ball?" His father shook his head. "Me and your mother are going on a trip around that time, and you aren't allowed to go alone." Blaise's eyes widened. "I won't be alone!" His parents flinched at his sudden outburst. They had never seen him show so much emotion.
"Blaise, is something wrong?" His mother asked. "You have never been this emotional before." His father added. Blaise paused, before looking down. "Sorry. I just...Please let me go to the ball." Blaise said. "You can't go alone Blaise." His father said. "Please. It's all I ask." His mother sighed. "Fine." "What?" His father asked at her response. "I suppose it is only fair that we let you go to the ball. But you have to behave yourself until then, and during the ball. Don't think that we don't know what you did yesterday." His father chuckled slightly. "That glitter bomb was a great idea." "I didn't come up with it, but thanks." Blaise said. "I'm going to excuse myself now. Thank you, mother, father." The couple exchanged a look as Blaise left. Blaise had barely touched his plate, nor had he eaten much any other time of the day. ...Just what was going on with him?
Blaise got to his room, locked the door, and laid down on his bed. He let out a sigh of relief that he didn't know that he was holding. "What is wrong with me?" He asked himself. "I lashed out at my parents for no reason...Simply because I want to see Dazai again." He sighed. "Something must be seriously wrong with me. And those dreams...I just keep getting them. Is my mind trying to warn me? No. No. There's no way. Things like that just don't happen. I'm just being paranoid. Everything will be fine. Dazai will get my letter and reply to me within a few days. Then I can finally relax." He told himself, trying to convince himself. He went to bed and had another nightmare.
Dazai, infact, did not reply to him. Blaise hadn't heard from Dazai in almost a week, and it was starting to worry him. Even worse, Blaise was starting to worry his parents. "Blaise, are you okay? Is someone wrong? You haven't been acting yourself since you have gotten back." His mother asked in a soft tone. Blaise drew in a sharp breath. "I'm fine." He said in a slightly aggressive tone. This took both his parents by surprise. Blaise realized what he did. "Sorry. I- I have just been worrying for a friend of mine. Every time I see him, he has a new injury. And being gone from him for so long worries me." His mother smiled. "Sounds like you are a good friend. I wouldn't worry if I were you. I would trust that friend of mine to be able to take care of himself." Blaise smiled at her words. "Yeah. ..Yeah. You're right. Thanks mom." Blaise smiled. It was one of the few times he called her mom, over mother.
When Blaise got back to his room, he locked the door and slowly slid down to the floor, while groaning. "That's the problem! He can take care of himself. He just chooses not to!" Blaise said, his inner dilemma eating him away. Herbin had yet to return either. That totally didn't help his nerves. But, Blaise decided, to try trusting Dazai to stay safe in his absence.
