Josie's
You had just gone to Josie's diner with Matt, Foggy, and Karen to celebrate another win. A group of guys kept looking at you disapprovingly- it was something you were unfortunately used to. You hate how much you still got clocked as a trans guy no matter how much you would try to pass. It sucked. So you were not a stranger to getting misgendered or called names or slurs in public. Fortunately, Matt, Karen, and Foggy were all cool about it and didn’t make your being trans a whole big deal so you didn’t usually have to deal with much crap at work.
The group of guys kept whispering to each other and looking back at you, making you sink in your seat. Foggy, Karen, and Matt all noticed this and seemed to be extra focused on you. As the night went on they got more drunk and rowdy. They eventually came up to your table and started throwing comments and slurs your way. Your friends all seemed about ready to defend your honour but you just wanted to sink more into your seat.
“I’m about to start throwing hands” Foggy commented.
“Please don’t” You whine
“I’m going to” Foggy responded.
This seemed to anger the guys more. They yelled out worse slurs right to your face.
“Fuck you, he’s more of a man than you’ll ever be” Karen chimed in.
“Yeah fuck you!” Foggy adds.
Josie goes towards you after hearing the commotion. You don’t want this to turn into more of a deal than it is already so you sink into your seat more, wanting to hide away. Josie then kicks the men out of her bar and you are briefly relieved. Foggy and Karen both seem relieved as well.
“Would you excuse me” Matt politely says, walking away from you guys and out the door.
“I’m sorry about that, Y/N” Karen offers.
“Yeah, that was not cool at all,” Foggy says.
“It’s fine, I’m used to it,” you mutter
“But you shouldn’t be.” Karen offers. You only shrug in response.
“You really shouldn’t be. People are real jerks.” Foggy says, still clearly fired up from the situation. “No one should have to be ‘used to’ something like that.”
Josie walks over carrying more drinks for you guys. “Round’s on me. My apologies, Y/N” she offers, setting down four drinks on the table for you before walking away.
After another minute or two passes with you, Karen, and Foggy all sitting in silence, you notice Matt walking back up to you guys. “Apologies. Had to go deal with something.” you eye him suspiciously, it wasn’t a coincidence that he had walked out after those people nor that he seemed a bit winded. You honestly didn’t care that much to look too far into it though tonight because you were drained.
The rest of the night out, they seemed to be a bit overprotective of you. This was something that you were almost hyper-aware of the rest of the night but it didn’t bug you. Your friends were genuinely all great people and cared about your well-being and stood up for you and you were grateful that they were there to help with the situation, you didn’t want to think of what might have happened if it was you alone.
