I groggily rubbed my eyes as light from the window coaxed my awake. I grumbled unhappily as I rolled over trying and failing to fall into that lovely space, sleep. After trying for only what I guessed was five minutes I unhappily rose from my comfortable bed. The others where still asleep so I quietly crossed the short distance to my trunk. I grabbed a random pair of socks, and underwear before picking up a uniform. Slowly I made my way to the communal showers, excited for some peace. I washed my hair cleaned myself before humming under the water just for the hell of it. Eventually I got out dried off and cast Tempus. A good thirty minutes before the others would be up. I grabbed my toothbrush and brushed my teeth while trying to fix my hair. I gave up.
My hair was a charity case. The black curls where useless, and hung around my face in a sort of just woke up way. That accompanying the fact that I was extremely short for my age left little to be pleased about. I sighed and rinsed my toothbrush out before getting dressed and slipped on my shoes. With a sigh I walked down the dorm and made my way to breakfast. I so posed waking up early was rather normal for me, I always had to be up with the light at the Dursley's.
I sat down at the Gryffindor table sipping some warm tea seeing as I was cold. I was startled when Luna dropped to the seat adjacent to me with a smile. "Hello Harry, the nargles seem to have taken another pair of my shoes this morning." She sighed as I'd completely distraught.
"If that's whats been taking my stuff and hiding it I guess the bloody buggers have been visiting me too." I chuckled. She peered through her strange pink glasses,
"The other schools are interesting aren't they?" She whispered as if it was to be a secret.
"Yeah," I laughed, "Im a bit jealous of the Durmstrang boys." I sighed, she giggled.
"They are rather handsome aren't they?" She looked pointedly at me as if I was understand a deeper message. I blushed curios as to what she meant. Dis she thing I wanted to be handsome, or thought they where handsome...?
"Yeah" I sighed lost in thought.
"You should ask on of them out the Harry!" She chirped childishly. I sputtered unintelligibly until I found my vocabulary again,
"I-I'm not... you know, j-just there, well I'm jelou- there Handsome okay! can a Bloke appreciate another blokes looks!?" I huffed agitated.
"Of course Harry!" She said as if trying to hold in a laugh. I scowled and groaned.
"I'm just happy I'm not in the spotlight this year s'pose" I said quietly.
"Aw, no you've jinxed it Harry! I'm sorry." She consoled seriously.
"You gonna ask out one of the boys Luna?" She scrunched her nose in distaste.
"There way to old for me!" She squeaked, "Though there is this one boy. He's so sweet but he hides it. The only problem is he's my cousin's friend and my cousin is very protective of me so he'd immediately shut that down!" She sighed unhappily.
"Who's your cousin?"
"I'm not so posed to say," She whispered as if she was admitting murder, "I'd cause a lot of problems, though he's very sweet. Always watched from a distance to ensure in okay. Pretends not to care but last year a group of seventh years where bullying me," She got misty eyed and poked her plate of eggs before finishing. "It was horrible, they'd call me names and rip my stuff. Well my cousin noticed right away. The next day the teachers found the group hanging from the wall roughed up and hair permanently died outrageous colors! I confronted him about it, of course he didn't admit anything but they stopped bugging me after that!" She sighed slowly.
"Uhh... should I be worried about being around you?" I asked only half serious.
"Oh, no your not a bully! He's sweet don't worry." She smiled the kind that lit up the room. It was then I wondered what it would be like to have a sister, I hoped she would be just like Luna.
"Oh- Harry am I interrupting!" Hermione asked as she sat down next to Luna across from me.
"Course not Mione!" I said smiling as I grabbed a muffin and began peeling the paper. Luna seemed to be in a sort of trance with a far-away look in her eyes she got so often. Hermione was reading while eating an orange slowly. After a while Ron practically ran in the hall and immediately began stuffing his face with food. I grimaced as I watched Mrs McGonagall began to descend the Gryffindor table passing out schedules. When she arrived at us I snatched the paper excitedly and checked my classes, only to stop and groan. Double potions on a Monday. Uggg!
"What do you have Harry?" Luna asked, it was as if Ron had only just noticed the Ravenclaw girl sitting across from me.
"Charms then Double Potions with Snape!" I sighed unhappy. She laughed again before saying,
"I have Tranfiguration first period then History Of Magic and Herbology! At least we all have Care Of Magical Creatures as an elective today!" I smiled and continued talking to her as we left for classes. She walked with me to the charms room before disappearing to her class.
"Mate who was that?" Ron asked after she left.
"Luna Lovegood, she's the one I talked to on the train," I replied.
"Mm-mm, I though you where talking to a hot bird not... her" He whispered the last words as if he meant an insult. Hermione smacked his arm before I could and added,
"What he meant to say," She started harshly staring at Ron. "is Luna, as you called her, is a bit well, crazy. Hear me out! Half the things she says don't make sense. She's not really what we would expect you liking..."
"Liking..." I trailed off before visible connecting the dots and busting out in laughter drawing the attention of the others around us. "You think.... God no Mione she's a good friend and I find her interesting, rally you can have platonic friendships! look at me and you!"
"Oh... right sorry seeme-" However she was interrupted as the door dramatically opened showing Flitwick standing on his pile of books,
"take your seats, find a seat..."
