Chapter 1: Arrival to Hogwarts
September 1st Platform 93/4. Haidra finds herself finally boarding the Hogwarts Express 2 years late due to her mother's over-protectiveness. Lyria Cassandra Lefay was very reclusive, a pureblood who hid herself for years and rarely came out into public. Living with such a mother Haidra knew how to defend herself, and was ahead in her studies more than her classmates would be but grew up without loving affection, only a strict mother who was more like a tutor than a mother most of the time. Her mother refused to allow her only heir to attend until she was old enough to defend herself which coincidently meant when Haidra was old enough to take on the Lefay Ladyship at 13 which differed from those that could take the mantle at 17.
Lyria met Sirius Black and had a one-night stand resulting in her pregnancy, most of her family line had been wiped out in the previous wars so she instantly became more protective of her hair before they were even born, not even informing Black of her pregnancy. When she found out Black was arrested for murder she had hardly been seen those 13 years. The Lefay name was descendants of Morgana Lefay and was closely associated with Dark magic. After the war was met with hate and disdain from most of the community, so Lyria decided to train her heir until she felt justified in allowing her out of her sight.
Haidra loved her mother but never felt affection other than the protection of continuing the bloodline so was excited to meet people her age and live her life finally. Armed with her extensive knowledge and her Ladyship she boarded the train and found an empty compartment except for a single figure of a man who seemed to be sleeping. She stored her trunk and pulled out her mother's grimoire which she had slowly been studying throughout the summer. Time flew by until it was only a few minutes before departure and she began to feel self-conscious so wanted to ensure she looked respectable as her mother had drilled into her. Pulling out her hand mirror she checked herself over, molten silver eyes stared back, she knew she inherited her father's eyes as the Lefay line always had green. Long Raven locks fell to her mid back as she flattened her curls as best she could with a quick spell her mother taught her. Deeming herself respectable she settled back for the long journey as she felt the train jolt and the whistle blow.
Turning back to her book she was settling into the journey and ignoring her compartment companion voices soon reached her ears as someone opened the door. Looking up she saw a tall red-headed boy, a mousy brown girl whose hair looked bushier than hers even on her worst mornings, and finally a shorter boy with hair as dark and as wild as hers but with striking emerald eyes and a lightning bolt scar just peaking through, no doubt in her mind this being Harry Potter. " Oh Hello, can we join you, everywhere else is full?" The girl of the group asked. " By all means go ahead" Haidra politely nodded to each other as they settled in, no sooner had they sat the brunette turned her full focus on Haidra. "It's nice to meet you, my name is Hermione Granger, and over there is Ronald Weasley and Harry Potter, I haven't seen you before are you new to Hogwarts?" Haidra knew she may get some scorn from the trio for being a Black as well as a Dark witch but she hoped she would be accepted at the very least.
Hesitantly she spoke up "I am new, I will be joining the third year and I have been home-schooled so far. Lady Haidra Lefay Black at your service" Haidra trailed off as they heard a gasp at her name. "LEFAY?!" "BLACK as in Sirius Black?" multiple voices overlapping each other. "Yes Lefay as in Morgana Lefay and yes Black as in Sirius Black, it's a lot to get into but I never knew the man, I don't ever want to know him, he's just a sperm donor to me so". Haidra defensively defended herself expecting some backlash but a quiet voice spoke out. "You don't choose your family, you seem nice enough" Harry gently assured which seemed to rein in his two companions who were getting over their shock. "Thank you, Mr. Potter, I appreciate your words" Haidra smiled towards Harry and silence settled over the compartment until Hermione got a confused look. "Wait, you said Lady Lefay? But you are our age, how can you be a Lady yet? I've read about Lordships and you have to be 17?" Hermione rambled and seemed to be gearing up for a large rant when Haidra cut in "Yes I am 13 but the Lefay Lordship is unique, firstly it is Matriarchal so it can only be held by a female as well as it can be obtained at 13 as Morgana felt woman needed a head start in this Patriarchal society" Haidra finished with a wink to Hermione which made them both giggle at the dumbfounded boys. A sense of calm settled over the four after as they got to know each other better and started discussing Hogwarts and what Haidra could expect.
Time passed quickly for the four as they spoke and soon darkness descended at the last stretch of the journey to Hogwarts when a sudden Jolt from the train halted the conversation, they couldn't have been there yet but as Haidra stood to investigate she felt a sudden chill permeating the air and seemed to steal the breath right out of her lungs. Straightening up she immediately took out her wand and stood guard directly in front of the door. She alerted the others to stand back and alert the stranger who shared their compartment. "I am awake, please move from the door young miss, I will handle this" A gentle but gravelly voice came from behind but she didn't take her eyes off the door as she replied "No sir, I will not move for I know what approached and won't allow it entry" Haidra stood her ground as she focused all her magic to build ready to cast. Suddenly the door opened and there stood a black-cloaked figure floating no more than 2 feet from Haidra, she stood her ground and firmly told the creature that Black was not hiding with them and to move on, the creature seemed to focus on something behind Haidra and stepped forward which further set the chill into Haidra's bones, furious she cast and a bright white bird shot from her wand and the creature screeched as it retreated from the giant bird standing before her mistress as another ghostly white wolf shot past and chased the creature further down the train. "Harry, wake up Harry!?" Hermione's voice reached Haidra's ears as she turned, Harry seemed to have fainted but was waking before Haidra could step forward. The stranger who introduced himself as Remus Lupin stepped up and offered chocolate to us all. Harry seemed to finally find his voice asking about the creature and how we managed to scare it off. "That was a dementor, they are very dark creatures who are the guards of Azkaban and were looking for Sirius Black, the light creatures you saw were patroni and are the only spell to repel them, now excuse me I need to go speak to the driver, we should be on our way again soon". Lupin answered and quickly left but not before catching Haidra's eye as she nodded to him, he seemed to just look haunted as he glanced at her features. "Haidra, what's a Patroni?" Hermione spoke up after a few minutes as they felt the train start moving again. "It's plural for a Patronus, which is like a spirit guardian which is the only defense against dementors and they take a different shape for each person, as you could maybe guess mine takes the form of a Phoenix" "Is it hard to cast?" " Yes it is very advanced, took me years to get a corporal form, most only get a slight mist or shield" Haidra explained which seemed to interest the three and slowly the conversation picked up for the last part of the journey.
