5 – Yule Ball
The ball got nearer each day and when it finally came, Louis prepared his outfit and hair together with Zayn.
“How the hell do you do that?!”
It’s unfair that Zayn doesn’t even have to try to look good with his long lashes and beautiful hairstyle. Nevertheless, he does take his time in the bathroom and the result is just gorgeous.
If Louis wouldn't have got Harry as his gay awakening then maybe this moment looking at Zayn would’ve done the job.
Not that he likes him romantically but look at the boy and you know where he comes from.
“I’m gay.”
What the hell? I should stop talking without thinking first.
“Good for you, I kind of suspected this.”
“What? For how long did you know?”
“Don’t know exactly. I guess for some years.”
“Years? I didn’t know until this year. How can this be so obvious to you?”
“Well, you always kind of had some vibes. And to be honest, you totally have the wrist thing.” Zayn laughs.
“The wrist thing? What wrist thing?” Louis asks a bit frantic. Zayn just points at his hands and oh, that wrist thing.
“But what about Hannah, I didn’t feel gay with her.”, Louis wonders.
“Maybe you’re bi?”
“Probably, whatever. That was quite random.”
Back to his hairstyle Louis tries to fix the look for some minutes swearing a lot until Zayn comes to help him.
When he put on his suit and stands in front of the mirror, he is actually quite satisfied with the result of his and Zayn’s work. He does look good. The black fabric compliments his curves and, if he may admit, his ass looks fantastic.
His hair is gelled back which emphasises his blue eyes and makes them shine. Also, the turtleneck makes his cheekbones stand out.
Louis is ready to go and see the others in their gowns. He thanks Zayn for his help and sets off to meet Luna in front of the Great Hall where the Yule Ball is taking place.
She does look stunning in her sparkling dark blue dress. When Louis takes a closer look, he realizes that the sparkles are fireflies buzzing around her figure. Even her curly hair which is held back by a dark blue band is glowing.
“Wow Luna, you look fantastic!”
“Thank you Louis, you look really good too, do you want some of my fireflies? They’ll help your balance when you dance.” Louis doubts that but Luna waves her wand and makes some of her sparkles fly to Louis’ suit.
“Thanks, that’s brilliant Luna.” Louis looks even more fabulous now, he is sure of it.
He looks up again and is met by green eyes staring at him from the other end of the corridor.
Harry looks… Louis has never seen something more beautiful. He is wearing a black suit too but with golden elements at his jacket which make him look like a prince. His curls support the image and make him look like a real royalty.
Somehow Louis can’t take his eyes away from the boy.
“Louis why do you stand there with an open mouth?”, Luna asks.
That makes him snap out of his state and close his mouth.
“Sorry, let’s get inside.”, he replies when he realizes that Harry is holding Ginny’s arm.
The group, Louis is currently talking with, consists of him and Luna as well as Zayn and Hermione. Next to them there are standing Harry, Niall and Liam with their dates.
Louis has the feeling that somebody is staring at him from behind so he turns around. The gaze he meets is the same one from some minutes ago. Harry realizes he got caught so he looks down and then at Ginny.
Louis turns around again but as the conversation continues and the feeling of being watched doesn’t disappear, he turns around again and this time he speaks directly to Harry: “Shouldn’t you look at your date and talk to her instead of watching us?”
He doesn’t know where his bad mood comes from but something about the situation confuses him.
“Sorry, you just look so gorgeous in that suit. I can’t really help it.", Harry replies with big eyes.
That brightens Louis’ mood again and the compliment makes him blush. He looks down, shrugs and says “whatever” to hide his reaction. He hopes, nobody heard this awkward something there.
He also thinks that maybe if Harry was gay he would’ve stood a chance.

The evening continues and when the music started, everyone asks their dates to the first dance.
It’s fun to dance with Luna because Louis can’t really dance but Lunas moves aren’t really the ordinary ones so he let’s her lead and joins on the moves he finds easy enough to copy.
Some songs later, the two of them take a drink and meet Zayn and Hermione there. The girls start a talk about S.P.E.W. which apparently means Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare.
Zayn and Louis are watching the other students dance when Liam joins them. “Do you think Ginny is Harry’s girlfriend?”, the Gryffindor asks.
Zayn is the one who answers. “I don’t think so.”
“I hope not, they wouldn’t make a good couple. I don’t know why everyone wants them to be together.”, is what Louis decides to say.
Liam out of all people agrees and Louis is pleasantly surprised.
A bit later, Hermione asks if anyone wants another drink so Zayn and Liam join her and Louis is alone with Luna again.
They have fun with finding the best dancing styles out of their classmates but when a slow song starts playing and his view flies over to Harry and Ginny who are currently giggling together about god knows what, Louis doesn’t want to watch anymore.
“Do you mind taking a walk? I think I need some fresh air.”
“No problem, we can sit down and make a roof out of our fireflies.”
They leave the castle and find a quiet place to take a break from the hustle inside.
The firefly-roof is one of Luna’s especially great ideas. It creates a beautiful atmosphere around them and calms Louis’ thoughts.
“You know, you should probably tell him you like him.”
Seriously, what is she?
“What do you mean?”
“You should talk to Harry.”
“How do you know out of everyone?”
“You two are permanently watching each other and when you see him spending time with Ginny it makes you frown. Even the fireflies on your suit are noticing it, they stop buzzing at those moments.”
“I can’t just tell him. What would he think? It must be so weird for him.”, Louis said.
What if he already suspects it, he did watch me sometimes.
“Why would it be weird? Just tell him and you’ll both be happy.”
She says it so easy, that Louis can see them together for a short moment. He sights and answers “Let’s go back inside, it’s getting cold here.”
Meeting Zayn at the entry of the Great Hall, they join their friends and decide on some snacks.
Later, the music starts to get louder again and all of them dance together in a group. The evening comes to a perfect ending when every single one of them is leaving the event laughing, ready to go to bed.
