kiss part one
James didn’t know where to even start his search for Regulus. He knew that he couldn’t get into the Slytherin dorms so he figured he would start by checking the courtyard. James knew Regulus and his friends would hang out there instead of the library most days since Evan and Barty got banned from the library for life.
James walked into the courtyard and scanned the green terrain for any sign of Regulus. Out of the corner of his eye he spotted someone wearing a green and silver tie and quickly made his way over to them. He didn’t know which slytherin he was walking to but he knew that it was worth at least asking them if they had seen him. When James turned his head to see who it was he saw Barty, Evan and Regulus sitting on a bench together. Barty was sitting in the center with his arms around both Evan and Regulus, Regulus had his feet up on Barty’s lap and was reading a book, and Evan was sitting with his knees hugged to his chest.
“Reggie… Can I talk to you for a moment?... Alone.” James asked timidly. Regulus looked up from his book and gave James a death glare. Then he turned and looked at Barty and Evan allowing a small, maniacal smirk to grace his face, before turning back to James. “Why would I want to talk to you, Potter?” Regulus asked as he shut his book. “Reggie, please.” James said in a pleading tone, he looked like a little sad puppy. Regulus rolled his eyes and looked back at Barty and Evan once more. “Fine.” Regulus finally said. He handed his book to Barty and stood up from the bench. James and Regulus walked into the castle in silence until they finally found an empty classroom with no one in the nearby hallways. James and Regulus opened the door and walked into the classroom being sure that the door was shut behind them.
“What do you want, Potter?” Regulus asked in a pissed off tone. “Why are you dating Barty?” James asked in a hostile tone. Regulus rolled his eyes and chuckled a little. “Why do you care, Potter? You’re not my boyfriend anymore. It’s none of your business who I chose to date!” Regulus yelled. “Regulus, you know he’s in love with Evan, he doesn’t actually love you.” James yelled back. “Well, who does that remind you of?” Regulus asked. “What?! What’s that supposed to mean?” James asked. “Oh, come on James. You break up with me and less than a month later you go off and date Lily. Did you ever even love me?” Regulus asked. “Of course I loved you! Do you honestly think I would be standing here right now arguing with you about your new boyfriend if I didn’t love you? And I could say the same thing for you about Barty!” James yelled. “Merlin, you’re dense! I’m not actually dating Barty! We were just pretending to date to make you jealous so I could finally get over you!” Regulus yelled back. Suddenly James grabbed Regulus by the face and kissed him passionately.
When the two boys finally separated Regulus had a small smile on his face. Regulus looked into James’s deep brown eyes with a prideful look on his face. “Say hi to your girlfriend for me, Potter.” Regulus said before walking out of the room and gently closing the door behind him.
-Later, in the marauder’s dorm room-
“Peter, I just did something really stupid.” James said as he walked into the dorm room and closed the door behind him. “What else is new?” Peter said, putting down his knitting needles. Usually Peter could finish a knitting project in a day or two but since James had started going to Peter with all of his relationship problems his knitting pace had slowed down. James leaned against the door with his head in his hands. “Oh, no, this must be really bad. Prongs, what did you do?” Peter said with a hint of distress in his voice. “I kissed Regulus.” James said reluctantly. “James! You have a girlfriend!” Peter yelled. “I know… I just… I don’t know what happened.” James said as his hands began to shake. “What do I do?” James asked Pete with a sense of helplessness in his voice. “James, you need to be honest with Lily. I know you don’t want to hurt her but you already have so the best thing to do now is come clean. I think the thing you should really be worried about is what this means.” Peter said, walking over to James. “What do you mean ‘what does this mean’?” James asked. “Well, do you still love Regulus?” Peter asked James. “I’m dating Lily.” James said in an offended tone. “That’s not what I asked.” Peter said. “You need to think about who you want to be with.” Peter said as he walked back to his bed and picked up his knitting again. “But, I can’t be with Regulus, he’s a death eater.” James said, walking over to Peter’s bed and leaning on his bedpost. “And, you can’t be with Lily if you still wanna be with Regulus because we both know that in that case this won’t be the only time this happens and you can’t hurt Lily like that.” Peter said without looking up from his knitting project.
-Later that night, in the Gryffindor common room-
James walked into the common room and hesitantly walked over to Lily, and Marlene who were sitting in the corner drinking hot chocolate and gossiping. Lily wasn’t usually a gossip but occasionally she liked to listen to Marlene’s drama. “Lily, can I talk to you for a moment… alone.” James said. He felt a bit of deja vu wash over him as it was just yesterday he said the same thing to another person he loved. “Sure, James.” Lily said, her voice sounded smooth like honey as a kind smile spread across her face. The pair walked to the marauders dorm room and shut the door gently behind them.
“I have something serious I need to tell you.” James said. Lily looked down at the ground for a moment and then back at James. “I do too.” Lily said simply, the smile leaving her face. ‘What does she want to talk to me about?’ James asked himself. ‘She must have found out about Me and Regulus! Oh Shit!’ James thought to himself as he felt his pulse quicken. He was planning to tell her about that right now but if she found out from someone else she would be so hurt, not just because he kissed Regulus but also because he wasn’t the one to tell her. James’s thoughts raced at a million miles per hour as he sat down on his bed next to Lily.
