the cat’s out of the bag
James sat in his dorm room staring at the ceiling. Usually he would spend his Saturday with Regulus but unfortunately for him Barty and Evan had roped him into some 'top secret Slytherin business' as Barty put it. So with nothing left to do James had no choice but to stare at the ceiling and watch the time pass. "Are you seriously going to just sit there and mope all day just because you can't hang out with Regulus today?" Sirius asked, standing over James's bed. "Do you have any grand ideas on how I should spend the day?" James asked, turning his head towards Sirius. "Yes actually, me and Moony were just about to go for a walk. Care to join us?" Sirius asked, holding the map in one hand and presenting it to James. "And be your third wheel. I think I prefer staring at the ceiling." James said, looking back up at the ceiling. "Alright, suit yourself," Sirius said as he turned to walk away. Just before Sirius reached for the door knob he stopped dead in his tracks and turned back to James. "Before I go, there is something me and Moony have been meaning to talk about with you." Sirius said. James turned his head with a look of confusion on his face. "Ok?" James said inquisitively. "Well me and Moony both think that we should tell Regulus about the whole werewolf, animagus thing. I mean we trust him and we don't want you to have to keep on lying to him." Sirius said, leaning into one of the posts of James's bed. James smiled and looked up at the ceiling again. "Ya, that's a good idea, pads. I'll tell him tomorrow. It'll be good to have that weight off my chest. Do you wanna tell him with me?" James asked, looking back at Sirius. "Sure, you tell him to meet us in the library at noon and we can tell him then. I'll see if Moony wants to be there too." Sirius said as he turned to leave the room once more.
-Meanwhile, in Barty, Evan, and Regulus's dorm room-
"Red draw two!" Barty called out while laying down an uno card onto the tall stack of cards in the center of him and his friends. "Fuck you! I have half the fucking deck in my hand!" Evan yelled in frustration while holding his huge stack of cards to Barty. "You seriously made me skip hanging out with James so that we could play uno." Regulus said with a pissed off look on his face. "Yes, you barely hang out with us anymore since you two got together. Think of it as bonding time with your best mates." Barty said, gesturing to all of their friends. Regulus looked down at his hand dejectedly. "Awe, what's the matter Reggie? You Can't handle being away from James for more than two minutes." Barty said mockingly.
"You're one to talk." Regulus mumbled under his breath. "I'm sorry what was that?" Barty asked while putting his hand by his ear and straining to hear Regulus. "I said, "You're one to talk. You can hardly go two steps without Evan by your side." Regulus said loudly, looking Barty directly in the eyes. "But me and Ev aren't dating. God, first Sirius now you. Why does everyone think me and Evan are together?" Barty yelled in frustration. Regulus looked silently between Evan and Barty and then stood up. "I'm going to go see James, by the time I get back I expect the two of you to have figured your shit out. I don't care what you do just be honest with each other and stop fucking lying because we all know you two are in love with each other." Regulus said and he walked out of the room. Barty and Evan looked at each other, their faces a shade of bright pink.
-A few minutes later, in James's dorm room-
The door burst open and Regulus walked into the room. The creek of the door alerted James and he sat up in bed and looked at the door. Regulus shut the door behind him quietly and leaned on the door. "Where is Sirius?" Regulus asked. "He and Moony are out for a walk." James explained. "And where is Peter?" Regulus asked. "The library." James replied. "And when do you think they'll be back?" Regulus asked, looking deeply into James's eyes. "Well, Pete said he wouldn't be back till after dinner and Moony and Pads probably won't be back for at least an hour." James explained, unsure as to why Regulus was in his dorm room. "Good." Regulus said, walking over to James's bed.
Regulus pulled James towards him by his tie, kissing him deeply. James honestly wasn't expecting this, he had figured that Regulus had needed something from Sirius and was trying to find him. He wasn't exactly objecting to Regulus kissing him though, he took any chance he got to be close to Regulus. James grabbed onto Regulus's waist and pulled him closer to him. Regulus slid his hands from James's collar to the back of his neck deepening the kiss.
-15 minutes later-
Regulus and James were cuddled in bed together. Regulus was laying on top of James with his head resting on James's chest and James was sitting happily running his hands through Regulus's hair and staring at the ceiling. "Love, can you meet me, Sirius, and possibly Moony in the Library tomorrow at noon. We have something kind of important to tell you, that we've kind of been keeping from you for a while." James said reluctantly, he didn't want to ruin the moment he and Regulus were sharing but he knew he had to tell him at some point. "Sure, why? Did something happen?" Regulus said, propping himself up on his hands and looking into James's eyes with a concerned expression on his face. "It's nothing bad, don't worry." James said frantically, he didn't quite know how he could ease Regulus's worry at that moment. "Ok," Regulus said, putting his hands on James's chest and resting his chin on his hands, "But there's no way I'm gonna be able to think of anything other than what it is you have to tell me until you do." James chuckled a bit and grabbed Regulus's head pulling him towards him and kissing him gently. "Are you thinking about what we need to tell you now?" James asked with a loving smile on his face. "Nope." Regulus said with a smile on his face as he pulled James towards him again and kissed him passionately.
-The next day, in the library-
Remus, James, and Sirius were already sitting at a table in the corner of the library when Regulus walked in. They had made sure to pick a table far away from anyone else, they couldn't risk someone overhearing. "Regulus, you might wanna sit down for this." Sirius said in a somber tone. The black brothers were always good at being dramatic. "What is this, an intervention?" Regulus said in a sarcastic tone as he took a seat across from James. "What we're about to tell you can never be repeated to anyone outside of this group, and Peter. If this information got into the wrong hands, we might all end up in prison." James said, looking into Regulus's eyes with a sense of the gravity of the situation. "Ok." Regulus said with a confused look on your face. "I'm a Werewolf. I was bitten when I was four years old, and a few years ago, Pete, James, and Sirius became animagi to help me get through the full moons easier." Remus said. "Ok, and?" Regulus said. "That's it." James said with a confused look on his face. "Really, that's all you had to tell me. Way to state the fucking obvious." Regulus said as if Remus being a Werewolf was common knowledge. "Why aren't you more surprised?" Sirius asked. "I guessed that a while ago." Regulus said simply. "How did you know that he was a Werewolf?" James asked with a confused expression on his face. "He's gone every full moon, he has scars all over his body, and he goes to the hospital wing constantly." Regulus said simply as if he were stating the obvious. "Ok, but how did you know that we were animagi?" Sirius asked. "Well, technically that's new information, but it's still not surprising. you guys are idiots who would do anything for Moony, not to mention those nicknames are a dead give away." Regulus said, "Like really, Moony. You couldn't have picked something a little less on the nose?"
"Actually, that gives me an idea." Regulus said pensively. "Why don't I become an Animagus too?" Regulus said simply. "Absolutely not. It's way too dangerous." Sirius said. "You did it. Besides I'm way less likely to get caught than you dumb assess." Regulus said. "I'm not giving you my permission under any circumstances." Sirius said. "Funny, I don't remember asking for your permission, I'm doing this whether you help me or not." Regulus said. "Fine, but you have to promise you won't get caught.' Sirius said. "Sure, anyways I'm gonna go start working on this." Regulus said as he got up from the table and walked out of the library.
